I recently bought a home with the Schlage Encode Smart Lock installed. I reviewed your TH-cam video to figure out how to download and use the app with the lock. Your excellent presentation made it easy for me to set up the app with the lock. Thank you for your informative presentation. Even non-techies could set up this lock using your video. Well done and thanks for your help.
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
This is my first time dealing with a security lock and door. This video and your plain, to the point in explaining everything, was on point. I now full 98% comfortable, in my decision to purchase this lock to use with my already installed Ring Alarm bell system.
First time purchaser of Schlage Encode smartlock. I have not yet installed the smartlock. I went to TH-cam and found this video to be straightforward, easy to understand and appears to answer my questions about the Encode.
We have one of these locks on our condo and I can tell you this has given us complete control of who’s going in and out and knowing if the door is being tried and knowing who’s trying to do it. It has worked flawlessly but if it stops today I will go out and purchase another if it can’t be fixed.
Had this installed by Schlage, he left me the manual which has the Program code and two factory user codes. You would think the manual would have instructions how to change the factory user code to a personal code. It does not. I called Schlage and was on hold for over 20 minutes so I hung up and went on TH-cam where I found your video. I have not set up wi fi yet so just want to change the code on the keypad for now. Your video is great on instructions though the wi fi app, but wish you showed how to change codes on the pad itself. Again, great video, but can you believe Schlage didn't put instructions on how to change codes on the manual and can't get through on the phone in 20 minutes.
I'm a new buyer to home. Seller left back up codes and I had no idea what to do with them. This video walked me through the steps without having to call the seller. Looking forward to installing same Schlage to my daughter's home.
Thanks Robert, I decided to go with this one after watching all 3 videos. It was super easy to install. Phone app works great, it took Alexa a couple of tries to connect. It took about an hour, most of time was the software part and doing the firmware update. It would have been nice if Schlage included 2 keys instead of just one. This replaced a SimpliciKey deadbolt. That lock started to bind and take 2 or more tries to open even after replacing batteries.
I have always used Schlage locks in my house and rentals. They are expensive but they are well made. To be able to pair with the cell phone is great. I can manage the Schlage encode remotely for cleaners and tenants.
Peter, does the remote access to the lock (via smart phone app) operate even if your tenants have their own wifi that is not connected to the lock itself?
@@tbird6234 the lock needs wifi to be able for you to control remotely. I have wifi in my house, so I can control via my iPhone, and I can set a code for the tenant to operate the lock. If I do not want to have my own wifi,I can use the tenant’s wifi.
This is probably one of the best looking smart locks on the market and the true Grade 1 commercial rating is something you should really be considering when protecting your home.
We just purchased a new home and because of your videos, I feel better about the new locks and security we will be buying for our new home. I will certainly be trying the smart lock also.
I got this one for my backdoor. It’s great to be able to check from the app if the door is locked or not so I don’t have to go physically check or if I forgot to lock it when leaving the house I can easily do it from the app. I love the ring and Alexa integrations as well, I can ask Alexa if the door is locked and ask her to lock or unlock it.
Great review of this lock. I own one and it works great but there are 2 quirks I've noticed with it. 1) It doesn't like brand-new lithium AA batteries. When I bought it, I thought I'd be clever and put the longer lasting lithium batteries in it so I wouldn't have to bother with it for awhile. I'm referring to the disposable lithiums, not any of the rechargeable types. The lock gave me an error message that indicated I should replace the batteries, like they were dead. Tried another set, same error. Put new alkaline batteries in and it's been working fine ever since. A new set of alkaline batteries last me about 6 months or so. 2) There are times when the app logs me out but doesn't alert me that it's done so. This definitely happens after the app gets an update but at other times too. When it happens, I don't get notifications that the door's been locked or unlocked. Is it annoying... absolutely. Could it be dangerous... perhaps. Anyway... love the videos and I NEED this lock for my back door. I hope I win!
I lost my old dead bolt for my schlage connect, this would be a great replacement. What I like about this is how quiet the locking mechanism is. My old schlage connect lock was toooooo loud.
In this day and age of horror, watching this video and it's features, I would need 3 of these for my home. I have purchased Schlage products before. Very reliable. Thank you

Thank you so much for posting this very helpful video, I was on hold with Schlage for a long time and found how to add access codes very quickly on your video, You saved me a ton of time and frustration.
I need to replace a previous Schlage push button lock and want a smart sense for that door. I will transfer the old one to another door. Still working well after 3 years. Trying to find the model that fits me. Thanks for the info!
Thank you for taking the time to share your review of the Schlage Encode lock. My one comment: I wish you would have included in your review on how easy or difficult is it to re-key the keyed lock portion of the hardware. Kind Regards Kevin
Great point! We were focused on the features for this Smart Lock Video series. Any locksmith can rekey these up to match your house key. If you take it to their shop, it should be around $10. The Kwikset Halo we reviewed, can be easily rekeyed by any home owner. Check out our video, How to Rekey a Kwikest Smatekey: th-cam.com/video/D2g9uHqUmPo/w-d-xo.html and our article, How Much is it to Rekey a Lock? www.acmelocksmith.com/blog/how-much-does-it-cost-to-rekey-house-locks/
Thank you for the clear and concise video and for the opportunity to win it. It has a very nice look, and appears that my entire family would not have any problems using it!
My daughter-in-law is wanting a lock that will automatically lock the house behind the boys when the leave and may forget to lock the door. Would this Schlage device, or some other, be best for her requirements? I really like what I saw in this video; thanks for the detail!
Thanks for the help. I came here looking for info on setting a second code. I set one up for my sub contractors that I will delete after they are finished. Many thanks.
Great video but I installed the contemporary version and I had hoped to see how the backlight turns on which I have not been able to activate on mine. The instructions sort of indicate if you touch the lower tight hand corner it will activate but not on mine. Thanks
Nice presentation. My concern is holding onto the Wifi. I tried a Nest/Yale which proved quite poor on a Spectrum Wifi fiberoptic 1g system. Wondering if this will be better?
I would have appreciated a little more information as I need it for my Short Term Rental - about a way to send codes to renters, is there a way to do it automatically, etc.
I am thinking of changing out my Schlage Connect Z Wave Plus along with my WINK Hub to the Encode with WiFi feature. This is for a vacation rental so obviously I need to change codes frequently in the app and need reliability. Any issues with losing connection if the internet goes out temporarily? How well are the Low Battery notifications?
"One of the big issues is there are no single-use codes" Maybe I'm not understanding, but the website says this, "You specify who has access and when by setting up to 100 permanent, recurring or temporary lock codes that you can change as you see fit". Is that not the same thing? I was looking into getting a smart lock (which is how I found this video!).
A single-use code is one in which it is used once and expires. This lock has temporary codes where you can set a code to be active for a set amount of time, like one day.
Very nice review. I've been considering a smart lock but hadn't looked into any yet. Came across this video and now I need to watch the others. Thanks!
Excellent video. So if you move into a home that already has this schlage lock installed, is changing the code sufficient? Should you get the whole thing replaced since there is a key involved?
Great video. I would like this lock, but would love it in brass to match my Schlage door handle. The finish on your demo looks close but it looks like brushed nickel. Again a very informative video.
Thank you for the detailed review. One thing I would like to suggest is that you adjust your volume level to be consistent. I find I have to adjust my volume when you switch between talking directly to the camera and when you are showing the app screen (volume a bit low). Otherwise, great review. It was very helpful.
I do not have an app update. The lock comes with keys. But if you have Schlage hardware on your house take that lock to a locksmith before you install it and they can make the key work off your existing house key.
Just purchased this lock. We would like to set up the wifi. But can it be used just manually too? If my son or my neighbor needs in. Can they access in if the wifi is set up?
It will come default with two pre-programmed user codes so can be used without wifi with those codes. I'm not knowledgeable with wifi security protocols so I don't have a good answer for that bit.
I think Schlage has an awesome product line… thank you for reviewing this product, I have been looking for a new smart lock and the encode has all the features I like except the Siri apple HomeKit integration, but I do have Google and Alexa in my home also.
I have this lock and love it but mine just said lock jammed and I’m not close by and hope it will unlock when my guest needs to open it - any words of wisdom
I'm very interested in this lock. I installed the Schlage Sense on my front door about 3 years ago and wanted another for the door between the house and garage. I have set the front door to automatically lock at 7:00 each evening and would like to do the same with the door to the garage.
Great lock! Unfortunately though, this particular lock is very hard to find right now due to chip shortages. Maybe 8-12 months before available again. May want to consider our favorite smart lock, the Yale CBA. th-cam.com/video/P7j6PnZZnR8/w-d-xo.html Comes with an Schlage keyway so can be keyed to your existing Schlage key and is available on our website. www.acmelocksmith.com/buy-safes-online/yale-touch-screen-bluetooth-deadbolt-yrg426.html
You don't need wifi to use the lock, but Bluetooth is a proximity thing. So you'd have to be close to the lock to use it, and at that point, just use the lock.
Sorry if you have already answered this but is it possible to use/change codes without having wifi on this lock? Our rental property’s wifi is not very reliable so I want something that can work without wifi (and also be able to change codes without being connected to wifi either).
You can. But once it's connected to a Wi-Fi it stays wifi. But if you don't want to use the Wi-Fi feature there are much more affordable locks. We recommend this one as a basic electronic lock. amzn.to/3GXqNHI
Well done demonstration and explanation dear fellow locksmith. I worked on one of these yesterday where the battery had not been changed after it ran low. Being in hawaii , a tourist Mecca, some condos are vacant for awhile and no one checks battery status. Wonder if there’s a low battery alert sent to user?
It will tell you in the app if the batteries are low, but I don't think it's proactive. You have to check it from the app. They have now updated the integration to Alexa, and Alexa will verbally tell you when the batteries are low.
Hi Robert .. Nice video !! I just purchased this model and installed the app but I keep getting "Lock Jammed During Operation" message ... what amI doing wrong ??
Hi Robert, great review, I am subscribed with notifications. It is a very nice lock, many good features, but what kind of security does the key cylinder have? Is it 5 or 6 pin, how resistant is it to bumping and picking?
Thanks Frank! It's a basic SC1 5-pin cylinder. Better than some, worse than others, I wouldn't call it high security by far but it's one of the better off-the-shelf you can get.
@@LocksmithRecommended- People who get this should come to see you and replace the core with a Mul-T-Lock core or another high security core, or add some anti bump pins and then you will have a great lock. I don't understand how this lock got a Grade 1.
Hi Robert follow-up question. Can the Schlage Home app be installed on more than 1 phone? We have smart kitchen appliances and the kitchen app only works on one phone, when I tried adding a second phone it removed the first one's access. I don't want to repeat that with the lock. Schlage's FAQ page and TH-cam wasn't a lot of help. I assume there can be only one phone as the Admin or can there be more than one phone using the same Admin code. My initial thought is only one phone can be paired with the lock. Thanks in advance.
That's a better question for their support as I've never set it up over multiple phone. Their customer service number is: 888-805-9837 . Let us know what you find out!
@@LocksmithRecommended We figured it out! The short answer is yes, the lock supports multiple phones. The new person installs the app on their phone or waits for the link an invite the original lock owner or admin sends. The admin uses their app and goes to "Manage Users", then click on the "Virtual Keys" section on top, and tap the plus sign (+). This sends the previously mentioned invite to the new person. It can be an email, SMS, Facebook message, etc. The invite contains a link to install the app and a 4-digit confirmation code. After you click the link and enter the code in the Schlage app, you have control of the lock.
Great information and video. Can I change out the deadbolt I currently have (Quickset) to keep the keys the same or do I need to cut a bunch of new keys ? Thanks so much!
If you have a Kwikset you can either buy the kwikset Smart Lock or you can buy a Yale Smart Lock with the kwikset cylinder. www.acmelocksmith.com/blog/kwikset-halo-smart-lock-review/ www.acmelocksmith.com/blog/yale-assure-review/
Our Encode lock still works well but it has stopped lighting up. We still have 80% battery so it's not that. Any suggestions? It's really hard to see the numbers without the backscreen lighting up.
Hi... Love your Video, and how well it was explained. 👌 I have a question? How Do I removed a Lock user code if they are no longer Autorized door entry or no longer Welcome to my Property??? Thanks.... Team Kodi 🤔🤔👍👍👌👌✌✌
CAN I ADD 2 (or more) CELLPHONES to the sinc?? April 2023, I bought the new version which has the very same setup etc etc. But I just can't add my wife's cellphone to it. I mean, I can have Schlage App on my phone and play with the door lock, but it has been just impossible to add the same Schlage app into my wife's phone. In other words, my wife is currently relying on the pad code to enter the house, not able to use cellphone to manage employees, kids, visitors, etc
What happens if you just bought a house and it has this lock and you’re setting up the app? I scanned the code but the next step, press the button, just buffers and times out.

Great lock! Unfortunately though, this particular lock is very hard to find right now due to chip shortages. Maybe 8-12 months before available again. May want to consider our favorite smart lock, the Yale CBA.

Comes with an Schlage keyway so can be keyed to your existing Schlage key and is available on our website.

Can this be operated via Bluetooth only? The location doesn’t have wifi or internet.
Can others use their code from the app. Or they can only manually place code in the device.
Great demonstration and review. Looks fairly simple to install. Thank you for posting!
You're very welcome. ✌️
They have now updated the integration to Alexa, and Alexa will verbally tell you when the batteries are low.
is there a way for multi users on wifi. example I have it setup on my phone but can my wife and kids also use there phone to lock and unlock?
Yes, but they have to set up an account for the app and then you would add them as either an admin or user.
@LocksmithRecommended when I do it's like they ha e to click I own a lock and go through the whole process is that correct
Thanks. This was super clear and made the set up easy.
Glad it helped!

Hi, Can I open and close the door by asking Google assistant? Thanks
Not sure of the exact verbiage. It does support Google Assistant. Check the user manual.
Do the codes work when Wi-Fi or power is down?
Yes, but only at the lock (not from our phone).
Very helpful. Easy install and setup. Thanks!

Our Encode lock still works well but it has stopped lighting up. We still have 80% battery so it's not that. Any suggestions? It's really hard to see the numbers without the backscreen lighting up.
Sorry, seems like something has gone wrong. Try their customer support. It has a 3-year warranty. Unfortunately, they are backordered.
Do you recommend for commercial doors?
I wouldn't recommend it for the exterior doors. For office doors it'll be fine. I would put commercial hardware on a commercial building.
Doing some research before even considering purchasing. Very straightforward review. I think it about sold me. Awesome video!
Glad it was helpful! Just released our recap of all three smart lock deadbolts today. Take a look. th-cam.com/video/P7j6PnZZnR8/w-d-xo.html
If the Wi-Fi goes out, will the lock still work? I lost the key to my lock.
Yep. www.acmelocksmith.com/articles/will-smart-locks-work-without-internet/
Very helpful, thanks for the informative video!
Unfortunately you can't find them anywhere and they are back ordered! I need one ASAP. Any suggestions?
Yep. Schlage does not even have an ETA on those. The Yale lock is great too. See our Best Smart Lock video.
I'm in the Industry, 40 week lead time
Is there a way to add the same Schlage Encode lock in the Schlage App on two difference phones?
Hi... Love your Video, and how well it was explained. 👌
I have a question?
How Do I removed a Lock user code if they are no longer Autorized door entry or no longer Welcome to my Property???
Thanks....
Team Kodi
🤔🤔👍👍👌👌✌✌
The app lets you easily remove users.
How resistant to picking is the key cylinder?
Same as any other over the counter lock, not great.
Excellent information, I'm trying to decide on what brand to purchase. This video goes a long way to helping me decide on Schlager. Thanks very much
Thanks. very easy to follow the video!
You're welcome!
Good day. I’m looking for purchase in bulk Schlage, any cost efficient distributor?
I hope I get this lock for my the new house I’m buying. How cool would it be to get the keys on the 21st of August just to change the lock.😃
Sorry. I just found the winner. Maybe at the next giveaway. You can follow the links in the description though and pick one up.
Just purchased this lock for my front door. Now I need one for the back door.
Awesome!
Thank you for sharing. Very helpful information it helped me to set it up.
Glad it helped.
Reset it. th-cam.com/video/Qaq2kgXoHvg/w-d-xo.html
