  • Hey OGs, a little bit of backstory here, we have done so many DIYs for the SC300/SC400 and we simply wanted to continue our tradition of helping out the community. We got this ES300 a couple of years back as daily driver, but it was lent to a friend in need for a good year right after doing tune-up on it and fixing the oil leaks. It was pretty neglected but the previous owner maintenance wise, but every cosmetic was really well taken care off. We got at 175k miles, but didn't get it back until 186k miles. Lately, I got determined to sorta bring it back to its former glory for a much comfortable daily drive. I've seen people with 300k (or more) miles on the clock, and it seems it would be much feasible to maintain what I have now knowing what I've done to it so far than searching a low mileage one with probably the same issues that I'll need to deal with again.
    The first thing we decided to deal with was the rear motor mount since it looked to be the most challenging. But it was actually pretty straight forward, and didn't propose any problem that wasn't manageable. Soon as we got the motor mount brackets out, we brought it to a shop nearby and had new bushings pressed in. We then cleaned everything before reassembly as the previous oil leaks left quite a mess and might introduce new problems in the future. Reassembly was also the exact reverse so we didn't shoot it again. Good luck and hope this helps!

    I’m so not looking forward doing this task on my 1994 ES300 with 304K miles. Looks like a pain the Arse! Well, she deserves some pampering, it’s been a great daily commuter and never let me stranded. I’ll be purchasing the motor and transmission mount kit this weekend...Thanks for the video 👍

    Thanks for great video. I've got a Camry with a 3VZFE. I'm doing the HGs at the moment but noticed CV bolts are loose. Spent $500(Aus) with mechanic 3 months ago. He managed to damage one of the boots as well. Hard to find a mechanic I can trust. Might replace the boot once I get done with HGs.

      Pulling out is honestly easy. It's putting back the mount that took me a couple of hours.

    Damn that’s a lot of work for a motor mount.

      The newer models does not required remove all of those parts, but for those newer models you have to remove the engine mount in order to remove to lower control arm.

    You sure did make this look easy! Very nice. I might attempt soon. Do axles come out that easily usually? That’s the part I’m afraid of

      Depends on how old is your car the passenger size axle is PITA trust me if it seized in the bearing you will scream.

      I suspect that this mount needs replacing on my car as well, I was wondering what signs have you got from this being bad, I have a clunk when going from Drive to reverse, but more highlighting is that I get a clunk when slowing down, it’s when the car downshifts from 3rd gear to 2nd gear, do you also have this issue?

    Is the same procedure for a 1996 Toyota Avalon? Ive already replaced the front engine mount, top dog bone mount, and transmission mount, I am a bit confused on the rear mount because on my car I have 2 half shafts each held in by 6 8mm hex bolts.

  • @mauricebrock4233

    The thing that I find frustrating is on every video I've watched once the c-clip & bolt are removed the axle slides gently out of the center support housing. This is not the case with my 97 Avalon. I'm not replacing the mount , I am replacing the right axle and it looks like this is the method I must follow but unfortunately with the axle still attached inside the housing. I have pushed, pulled, beat, heated , greased & sworn all to no avail .

      Did you ever get it out? Doing just the axle right now on a 98 ES300 and I'm in the same position. Won't budge.

      I ended up using a cutting wheel and sliced the axle between the transmission and the bearing support assembly, a few taps with a hammer and it popped right out.

      @@mauricebrock4233 that'll be my go-to if the slide hammer and axle hook doesn't work. Thanks.

      @@mauricebrock4233 Thanks. Because the exhaust was in the way on the Lexus I had no room to get my grinder in to cut the shaft, nor room to hit it with a hammer if I'd been able to. I ended up having to remove the entire motor mount assembly with the axle still fully attached, and that was quite a pain to pull all of that out through the wheel well. However, once I had the whole thing in the vise, I was able to really get some heat on the mount and after about 100 sledge blows the bearing finally popped out.
      I also discovered at this point the mount bushing is badly split, so that'll be done as well, new part locally was like $27.
      At least all of this, the axle boot splitting, the mount being bad, didn't all happen in the dead of winter or something. Better to happen now while it was already apart for the wheel bearing job.

    • @OrganizedGarageStatus
      @OrganizedGarageStatus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably a couple of hours. It was much harder to put it back in as its a very tight space and requires a bit of maneuvering. The shop charged me like $40. Could've been cheaper if I brought it to a machine shop, but the auto shop was much closer.

    Hi, how did you know when to replace the rear mount? It's kinda hard to know vs. the side and front mounts. Did you crawl under to look at it or did you feel anything while driving? I have an Avalon. Thanks for the video. Much appreciated.

    • @OrganizedGarageStatus
      @OrganizedGarageStatus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      fastskipper777 thank you and glad it would be of help! The way to find out is to lift it, and have someone shift through Drive and Reverse while another checks from underneath how much of a play the engine has. But it’s really a no brainer based on mileage and age.

      Organized Garage Status I have a later model Camry, the mount is moved closer to the control arm and is easily removable but this one looks like a pain. Not undo-able, but just a pain... however I have to deal with the rusty axle bearing bracket in the event my axle fails!

    • @OrganizedGarageStatus
      @OrganizedGarageStatus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Dexion845 removing the axle was the easiest part. The actual hard part was getting the bracket back in place as it was very tight and hard to maneuver it back into the studs. It shouldn't rust also, as its cast and the bearing is stainless and I'm located in Cali. LOL
