I remember finding the first Qaaman video I saw back in 2013 on a topic me and friends had discussed in depth at school & at work many times & then I saw he uploaded more. Dude, I can't believe it's been that long since Dragon Ball Super came out. Dragon Ball Super was released in 2015, the same year I graduated from high school. That summer was one of the best summers ever. Finally being done with high school, and to make things even better, Dragon Ball returned as an anime. Yes, I know Dragon Ball Super isn't perfect, but at the time, I was hyped.

Here’s the problem with the Dragonball Daima, I understand they went to have a new series for new and current audience to enjoy. But I don’t think this is something many of us want. Even if it takes place after the Buu saga but before Super or in any timeline during Super, it doesn’t seem like a story that can work given that Goku and everyone are kids. If we get something where they still have their full power or limited but still there to protect themselves, it will fall into the GT route.
Unfortunately, and I’m not afraid to say it. But I feel that the story we got in the 80s and 90s, should’ve just ended. Sure Goku and his friends returns, Battle of Gods and No F were interesting, the current direction of Dragonball doesn’t feel what the original Dragonball was meant to be.

I have to agree, or at least I think Goku should have remained dead after the Cell arc. I think the series could have continued with just Gohan, had he been written with a bit more complexity. Having a protagonist who only fights when he absolutely has to isn't that interesting unfortunately (unless the story is serialized).

I think spinoffs would have worked better for the franchise though. Telling the story of Goku's life in the otherworld (beyond the tournament arc) could have been way interesting and continued the story in a completely different direction.
I think passing the torch to Trunks and Goten would have been for the best. They still have Vegeta, Gohan and Piccolo around to train them going into the Buu arc and I think that Vegeta dying permanently after his sacrifice again Majin Buu completes his character arc. Would have been cool to get a line of internal monologue with him saying "Don't think I'd let you surpass me Kakarot, I'm coming for you." before he explodes. Maybe they can essentially have a whole new side story in the otherworld like Super has done, with the difference being that if they die in that realm then they lose their bodies permanently and there are no dragonballs.
But going back to Goten and Trunks, I think they benefit by not learning Metamoran fusion. Instead just being fueled by Vegeta's sacrifice before their eyes to get stronger and watching Gohan struggle with Buu. It's important in their early years to learn to rely on their own strength, but...
I think Kaiosama (Shin) introducing *Portara* fusion into the story could have still worked though, except it would have been a fusion between Gohan and Piccolo instead (setting up Trunks and Gohan to be able to still fuse in the future at some point). Ultimately, the fusion between Gohan and Piccolo would have worn off in a similar fashion to Vegito.
I know most people think that a fusion between the two would look cursed, but I have a design (in my head at least) that I think works. The design language is similar to what we see from Saonel & Pirina (the Universe 6 Namekians, if they combined their appearances) and it would be a mix of Piccolo with his purple gi and Gohan still wearing his Great Saiyaman black undersuit. Just keep it mainly looking like Piccolo, but the gi is black with a purple undershirt. Keep the iconic white gloves and and boots, but accent them with either the black or purple. Reduce the amount of scales on his body and give them a more pinkish-tan coloring. Remove his antennae and replace it by giving him Gohan's full head of hair along with "the bang". Slightly reduce the length of his ears but keep the same design and add the portara. He would look "similar" to someone like Mechikabura (final form) or Demon God Shroom (hair up), but just with green skin 😅
Anyway, I think Gohan would be able to ultimately win against Buu using the Spirit Bomb. After Vegeta comes to the afterlife and updates Goku on what's going on back on Earth, Goku goes to King Kai and teaches Gohan to use it. If Future Trunks can just randomly use the Spirit Sword technique without any training, then I'm sure Gohan can learn it "through the wire" 😂
After the Buu arc, they could age up the boys a bit more then they did in Super. Maybe to the size we see Gohan at the end of the Cell arc? And just continue their training with Gohan and Piccolo and we can see that they are being prepared as Earth's future defenders. Gohan is trying to retire and focus more on being a scholar and raising Pan. Piccolo is the boys main instructor and the nice thing is they can still introduce Uub if they wanted as well as Beerus and Whis and maybe even still have Frieza be wished back (a bit more in the future though) and confuse Goten for Goku trying to get his revenge. But just move the series forward while focusing on the next generation.

I’m still going to be watching it regardless, but considering how messed up the power scaling Super had and the reckons that super did by filling up the gaps that Z never focused on maybe should’ve just stayed as is as intended that we got in the original.

This could have been a story for new characters going on their adventure instead of repeating the adventures of Kid Goku.

There are a million ideas, there are literally multiple universes and a ton of characters. The creators of the series would rather just retred the same ideas and repeat the same tropes.

I would just love a new story set in the Dragonball world.
A Dragonball spin off series that focuses on Beat who is a descendant of Goku from Dragonball Heroes would be great. It could focus on Beat’s adventures in the Dragonball Heroes world alongside his girlfriend Note.
A Dragonball GT sequel series focused on Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. adventures would also be great. It could focus on all the descendants of the Dragon Team and new Earthlings fighters who have learned martial arts and ki.

It is crazy. I don’t think I was subscribed to you whenever you first started, but I was there pretty early on… that was before battle of the gods or any new DB content came out. I’d say most people watching DB content at that time were more of the hardcore fanatics

Based on the reaction of the majority of the fans to Dragon Ball Daima, if I were akira toriyama, I'd make this a 1 hour special episode and announce the return of DB super 2. Why waste time and resources on something that could be interesting but that most fans don't want?

Jokes aside you kinda are though, and i say that to my friends too. Like the only people i knew about before you were SSJ Paul (I forget his original channel name), and Son Goku the Great (a BT3 exclusive youtuber). I guess because of Paul, you can throw in UnrealEntGaming in the mix. But both of them largely stayed in the gaming sphere and didn't really stick as exclusively to DB as you did so you are pretty much the first. You were the Genesis for this and ill never forget, you collabed with people i had never heard of the time like Blackenfist, and Thundershot. You were the DB plug in those days. O haven't finished the video yet before this comment so now ill continue listening
I remember turning Son Goku into a kid in GT was Hated by fans, but apparently, TOEI and Toriyama has forgotten that.

I grew up with Kai, being gen Z and all, I obviously missed out on the original run. Nevertheless I still fell in love with the franchise, even remember being bullied in school for liking anime.

The problem is that the Dragon Ball was a event for it's time, the late 80s to the late 90s had a very particular style, that's way many remakes or comebacks are failing, the world is just not the same, those shows died at that time, the only great comeback was Bleach, but for many other reasons, I too wanted my childhood anime back, but let's face it, there were NOT many options to make DB interesting after Buu, almost zero, now I think that we, the old fans, should had let the classics (like DB) die at their time.
it's also the artstyle honestly.
if you look at DB, DBZ and DBGT's artstyle, it's detailed and doesn't mess around, you can generally see how strong someone is by just looking at them.
this artstyle is beloved for a reason and 99% of the fans love it, not talking animations even though DBZ had some banger animations and yes, some fails aswell.
DBS my main issue minus story is just how shiny everything is, I get it, Super Saiyan illuminates as seen in DBZ with Yakon and Goku using SS to see properly.
but in DBS everything is super shiny and bright, to the point that it's almost blinding, the artstyle just isn't as detailed, if you see people making scenes from DBS into DBZ's artstyle, you can instantly see howmuch they focused on the muscles and details on the body.
storywise, DBS was alright, but it has reached a point where it basically becomes an "well, let's throw an even stronger villain at our heroes"
They could've went in the opposite direction and aged everyone.

It's interesting how all those factors and the timing of everything came together: The internet being more of a widespread thing, the kids who grew up watching DB being at the age to make content, and the arrival of the "renaissance" all basically created this boom in the Dragonball fandom in the West. Before that, I never really encountered the wider fandom...
Its sad there moving on to daima which is no different than kiddy cartoon version of teen titans. They'll rather reboot than expanding there universe. Refuse to build supporting characters on super.

The Zamasu arc in the manga was definitely all over the place but the main reason why I prefer it over the anime version is because it used the SSG transformation which is my favorite form from the Super era and it also made Vegito look more powerful against Zamasu.

Now super broly was the closest they got to that old dragon ball feeling.
People trying to "cash in" is inevitable sadly. They've always existed not just during Battle of gods and DB Super, but even during Dragon evolution as well.

You are on the mark of what I've been thinking It'd be wild if we had a new cast at this point, we've had the same VA's for decades at this point. But the fact we have Daima being spearheaded by Toriyama himself it'll take priority over super
I think Dragon Ball Daima should’ve been set in a different time period with New Original characters similar to Dragon Ball GT : A Hero’s Legacy or Dragon Ball Online ( both set 100+ years in the future ) it could set in a different universe too. That way the show will feel new and unpredictable and story won’t effect the main story.

Qaaman, question. I know you label yourself as a Dragonball TH-camr. While there are still certain discussions that haven't been covered on DB, why not expand and discuss other anime or video games that you like? That video may not be nearly as popular as you are currently discussing for Dragonball as a whole but diversing content is always nice. People who follow you like your opinions and observation on certain things. We just happen to like Dragonball but majority of the fans are also pretty weebish in all fairness. You could give a review or a discussion of other stuff like Yu Yu Hakusho (I know you were debating about doing content on it years ago but didn't really do anything with it.) Naruto, One Piece, Hunter X Hunter, Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan or even Berserk. Whatever side anime that you enjoy or feel as passionate or close to Dragonball.
It's mostly because Dragonball is a very linear and specific thing to cover, where as certain TH-camrs capitalize generality (anime) or genre (shonen/seinen). You could be 80% Dragonball and 20% other, obviously numbers can change to what you see fit. Hell, you even said you were a Yougituber at one point. Some of us still play the game. You may not play the game anymore but you could every now and then or do a one time video talking about season 0 or your opinions/discussions of the current show or comparing the new current cards to the last core set you played. I dunno. It's just an idea. Like I said, people who consistently follow you will listen and find interest in other things you covered - thus remain loyal, even it's not dragonball. Dragonball isn't doing a whole lot now in the mean time and the linearity of content reminds me of Final Fantasy channels that I follow and once the hype is done, content and ideas slow down until the next big thing *cough cough FF7 Rebirth cough*. It also gives you a chance to expand and see if you can gain new audience while also having fun flexing your nerdy side on other things. Just my 2 cent, obviously as a content creator do what you think is best for you and your channel. Sometimes I even wonder what you think of certain shows or games that I play or watch, regardless if I agree or disagree your takes, it's just seeking and hearing your takes.

my main issue is how they're repeating or sort of trying to soft reboot DB if that's the right phrasing.
we got everyone being a kid now (instead of just Goku like in GT) there's no way they can have everyone being at full power, no way that kid Goku can go MUI and Vegeta can go UE.
will this be another GT disaster? where they try to emulate the "fun" that DB and DBZ had. (like GT emulating the 1st arc of DB with collecting the Dragon Balls across the universe, with the looming threat that if they fail, Earth goes boom, which it did anyway)
Honestly, they should just so an hard reboot, still in the DB universe, but maybe a different timeline, the power of the characters have gone a bit too far.
You got Goku at MUI which if done right can't even be hit unless Goku does a stupid (which is required, otherwise every villain just ends)
Vegeta in UE, Piccolo in Orange Piccolo, Gohan is now beast Gohan, then you got Broly who could match SSB in the movie alone and is training with Goku and Vegeta.
ToP could happen because Universe 7 had a lot of strong characters, but not everyone was as strong as Goku, Vegeta and Gohan.
since they filled the roster with Master Roshi, Krillin, Tien, #17,18 and Piccolo, while you then got a few powerhouses like Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and Frieza.
now it would just be.
Goku, Vegeta, Broly, Gronola(fairly sure), Frieza, Gohan, Piccolo, then you get to fill the rest with others like #17, 18 and probably Krillin or Tien.
which, the 3 fillers can sit it out since the other 7 can literally 1 shot the entire other universes now, Jiren was the big hurdle to beat in ToP, he got beaten by a Goku who didn't actually master UI yet, now he did, let's not forget that Frieza 1 shotted both Vegeta and Goku in his black Frieza form, shit has gone too far and should honestly come to a stop and just do a reboot.
maybe some crisis that sends Pan and Bulla to a different timeline/universe (maybe even add Goten and Trunks concidering they're not that insanely strong yet) and that's the main cast for the new show, obviously meeting new people, new threats etc, but at this point it's just "well, our characters are this insanely strong, just throw someone stronger at it, why not" (didn't read the manga yet, but fairly sure Gronola just wished to be the strongest)

I like Dragonball, Dragonball z. Quaman has good content on it. Dragonball GT was ruined by Pan. But Dragonball Super is the death of dragonball.
honestly, I'm one of the people that is looking at Daima as what its supposed to be, what the anime is supposed to be, its just for fun.
