I was having this conversation with a friend and honestly we were the last generation that went outside and weren't glued to a phone. Anime filled us with a spirit of excitement and magic that we would carry onto our imaginations. We weren't the first generation of anime fans though so we should always show respect to them. Bc the generation of fan before us was hardcore.

This actually made me laugh, are you aware Gen X said this about y'all? Seeing that the Internet was developing rapidly when you guys were still children(The 90s), and your 20s in the 2000s weren't very much different as Social Media was getting established at that time. I'm 75 and most if not all of my peers HATED the 90s, and it's ironic how you guys are praising it. My advice for you now is to not have an old closed mentality, enjoy what you have today, because 20 years from now, you're also going to appreciate now. Live in the moment because once you're my age you'll regret those moments you were hating and wished you were present.

As someone who’s Gen Z (1999) I have so much nostalgia from so many different channels. Early Cartoon Network pre 2013, early Nick and Disney was so freaking nostalgic. Anime now that I think about it while a big part of my life now and back then was only a small part considering cartoons, live action tv and movies. I wish and hope time travel becomes a thing I’d given anything to go back to those Saturday mornings and late night Toonami

Late 90’s/Early 2000’s for not just anime, but all forms of entertainment in general, was at its peak. In terms of DBZ content, I remember there being clips online with Japanese audio of movies that had yet to be released yet in the States like for Bojack, Broly etc. Also, spoilers were still a thing because the DBZ website always had the episode list with summaries and screen grabs from each episode even well before the episodes aired on TV. 😂 As a millennial, I definitely miss those days.

I was born in 86. I grew up into the 90's so I'm very familiar with what was popular and why.
In the early to mid 90's Power Rangers were super popular, along with Super Mario and Sonic with the Snes and Sega genesis.
X Men, Spider man and Batman were popular saturday morning cartoons.
After that came the PS1 and N64 came with new 3D graphics that barely anybody had seen before.
A couple of years later Pokemon came to America, which was also super popular.
Now we're in the late 90's to early 2000s, and there was a surge in popularity for anime, with lots of help from Toonami.
The Ps2, Game cube, and Xbox release.
Going into the mid 2000's most of the older millennials are pretty much grown, but Naruto, Bleach and One Piece were the next huge thing to come.
Also, I remember Yugioh, but i feel like it was late to the party and didnt do anything Pokémon wasn't already doing.
It was really only DBZ and Pokemon for the most popular anime at that time. Pokemon was also the more popular/established card game.

as an older Millenial who remembers more of the 80s...VHS was the primer that set it all going...the generation before me might have remembered things from their younger days, but we had a record of it and could indulge our nostalgia...turning 16 or 17 and going into the attic and finding a treasure trove of things I hadn't watched since I was in single digits fuelled those early internet searches...Thats not to say anime didn't help, from a young age I knew that the more Japanese names on the credits of a cartoon the better it was going to be...by the time Pokemon and dragon ball was doing the rounds on TV I had already collected hundreds of cyber-punk/horror anime from flea markets, god bless those souls who didn't think twice about selling a tentacle nasty to a teenager

@@KaiserMattTygore927 Its not that you did not watch DB/DBZ in the 90s when it debuted in fall 1996 on fox Channel and 1997 in WB, Those two network messed up their money by not showing those shows in primetime slots but putting them in the graveyard. Fox put the show at 5 am 5:30 Eastern time on weekday school morning!😂😂😂. Not even Breakfast time at 6:30 to 7 am but at 5 am 5:30 am when in still in bed/ maybe getting up taking care of hygiene/getting dressed for school. I think you touched on a single aspect of the bigger reason why millennials are so nostalgic. It's because we were the first generation of kids that were mass marketed to and had a considerably huge amount of new IP's licensed for us.
Think about it for a sec. When you think of Generation X's IP's as far as toys and shows you think of generic toys like trucks, dolls, board games, etc and for shows you think of Looney Tunes, Hanna Barbera, and Old Disney movies. But that's really it.
Then look at the Millennials, we have a myriad of shows both Anime & American that we all watched growing up and then we went and bought the toys, cards, videogames, etc for those shows.
The reason why we had WAY more shows to watch and subsequently buy merch for is because we were the generation that got dedicated tv channels for us to watch all day. The kids of previous generations only got to watch cartoons on Saturday for 4-5 hours before the channels would switch to adult programming, i.e Saturday Morning Cartoons
Enter Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, and Nickelodeon in 1992. They go and create original shows to fill out their daily programming were greenlighting so many new shows in such a small span of time. In addition they licensed anime for extremely cheap and bring over to the US so they could really fill out their roster of shows. Hence why we got Toonami as well as Power Rangers in America (it was Super Sentai in Japan)
Basically we were the first generation that grew up with TV channels that was all for us and with it came so many new shows to watch and since it was cable tv it was legal to market/advertise to kids (unlike public broadcasting where it's illegal to market to kids) so we had tons of toy commercials too.
And now that millennials are older and have their own money and are the biggest age demographic in the US, we're seeing remakes and reboots of all the shows we grew up with because they know that's already proven to sell

@@QaamansLand Oh absolutely! And Fox Kids as well as Toon Disney later on. We had so many shows being produced or brought for us because the channels were all so new that corporate leadership wasn't as stressed about being profitable yet. Hence why we had so many experimental shows that the channels took a low risk/high reward approach on. This mentality spanned from 1992-2008 the way I remember it.

Overall, the 90's pushed the limit for music and TV. IMO, absolute peak. Early 2000's were fine but there was a start in decline when it came to the things I loved from the 90's. Kids enjoyed weekday afternoon cartoons and Saturday morning cartoons AND still played outside afterwards with their buddies. We could also invite friends and over to play video games. We're the last generation WITH actual social skills! Most of my childhood was all Power Rangers and the big 3 anime that came out. If it wasn't that, it's the big 3 channels in Disney, Nick and CN. I had plenty of friends and if I wasn't with them, I had my video games or shows to watch. I believe we do have the strongest nostalgia. The 90's took what previous decades had and brought it to heights that will never be forgotten. Now we're in the age of reboots and revivals of the 90's because the content of today lacks quality and originality.

Nostalgia trip indeed. Born in 1990. Growing up in the 90s was such a great time. I recall DBZ Ocean Dub airing on Saban before Toonami picked it up. And even before that, you had the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers an VR-Troopers. Above them all, Cartoon Network was phenomenal. VHS tapes an the VCR were a kid's best friend. If you missed an episode of say DBZ, Poke'mon, Yu-gi-oh, Sailor Moon, amongst so many others, your friends had your back. Then, once Adult Swim dropped, what a game changer. Shows like Inuyasha, YuYu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star amongst others. Setting the VCR timer to start recording at those specific times because most parents wouldn't let their child stay up that late or watch those certain shows due to the vulgar language or violence. Wrote over several tapes I likely otherwise shouldn't of as a kid, but kids do be kids.
Obviously in terms of Poke'mon you had the launch of the games an trading required person to person interaction, as well as the battling. The relic known as the Link-cable, those were the days. Toss in the trading cards an you had a mainstay show, at least until Yu-gi-oh emerged. Playing the actual card game was a staple throughout school an after classes, even outside of school. Maybe the only thing that took place before Poke'mon/Yu-Gi-Oh was the Dragonball Z Figures, I remember everybody was trying to collect certain figures. How much I wish I had any of these relics of old but long since be lost, stolen, broken, or sold. In terms of the internet, most of my generation wasn't that fortunate because we lived in such a rural area that the money wasn't there. Most families simply couldn't afford the computer, let alone internet.
Past that, Saturday morning cartoons/anime were great. You could catch those, then go hangout & play outdoors with your friends. A huge sense of that aspect has been lost today, and really felt it died off in the early 2000s. Kids WB, Disney, and Nickolodian did eventually catch up with Cartoon Network/Toonami which was great, but really Cartoon Network paved the way for everybody else until WB launched Poke'mon an dropped Yu-gi-oh. Nick had some moderately good shows, but I don't view them as nostalgic for the same reason. It's more so that they weren't as popular amongst the crowd. And as per Disney, I just didn't watch it all that much. Maybe it had good shows, though I honestly don't really remember it all that well.

  • @NewEarthSon
    @NewEarthSon ปีที่แล้ว

The reason why the Nostalgia is higher with Millennials is because our generation is the last "Weekday Afternoons"/"Saturday Morning" Generation of "Cartoon"/ "Kids Programing". the Core from the Generations after which are Gen Z and Currently Gen Alpha children shows they get it on the internet whether that be a Home PC, Laptop or Smart Phone. Its a very different experience when your waiting for school to end to get home to watch your favorite show as a kid vs I can watch the show literally a second after school ends. Millennials know a world with out computers/internet and with because the transition occurred during our Childhoods, Thats one of the reasons why Millennials as a whole are able to adapt to change/ pivot "better" than the Generations we are sandwich in between with but also relate/ understand both that is Gen X and Gen Z.

Funny enough... Sailor Moon was a guy thing around here. The girls were all over for Inuyasha. I tried getting into both, but I just couldn't get into either of those 2.
