    Nice review!! Well done, totally in line with my impressions. Just ordered one two weeks ago. I am excited to have my first GS and my first BMW after 10 years on a Speed Triple 1050 (which I would never give away)

    Thanks for the review. I am in love with this Rally edition. The bikes in the States are being fitted with the 2 piece seat with the GS emblem in the pillion seat, which I really prefer.

    Great review. Seriously considering buying the Rallye but my local dealer has not got one in stock yet so your video has been really informative. I rode the new GS Exclusive today which I can only assume has the same general DNA and loved it but the Rallye appeals to me more. Thanks for posting this. Neil

      +Neil Hutton hey Neil. Thanks for the kind words. The rally's is an awesome machine, and if I didn't have a gsa I would certainly have one :) same general DNA but with loads of tweaks, and the colour scheme really pops!. I'll cross my fingers that you get yours soon. Ride safe matey :)

    Nice Video. Just purchased new one with larger wind screen, center stand, and road tires with premium package. Coming off a Ducati Scrambler which I enjoyed immensely, I"m thinking I'm in for much longer rides and a sprinkle of logging roads in the Adirondack Mountains Upstate NY! Cant' wait!

      +Seth Gordon that sounds an amazing package you got. Even though we have gsa's after riding this bike, I have to say I'm a little jealous 😬. That said I hope you enjoy it and it sound like your really excited. I would be too. Heheh. Ride safe mate and thanks for the kind words. :)

    Nice review keep up the good work, I am amazed that BMW hasn't used the opportunity of a new bike release, to introduce a tft instrument screen. Triumph have introduced tft to the new street triple and it is very positive change.

    Some interesting HP2 aspects incorporated. notably the blue frame, the wunderlich-like frame protector by the pegs which is a known wear issue in terms of wearing the paint off the nice blue frame. The lack of centrestand and similar foot lever setup. I love it. I've still got my hp2 and plan on keeping it but this could fit the touring needs alongside my cruiser.

    Nice video,thanks for sharing. I think your the only person to say the interment cluster is easy to read. On the one piece seat I remember in my dirt bike days it was nice to be able to kick you but out over the back seat while going over wash boards. You wouldn't sit on it just hold your self above it and let the seat spank you a bit.

    The question you asked about the flat seat vs a more standard seat with a raised rear pillion.... Ans. a flat seat is designed for off road use. It it gives the rider more flexibility to move and slide around, stand and sit, etc. This is essential when riding off road and going over bumps and jumps because it allows for easier body positioning changes. It's less comfortable for touring, but it's what you want in the off road.
    However, it also makes the seat height a bit higher (about 2 inches), which may be something to consider for shorter riders.

    Regarding the seat matter, I believe yours it’s a ‘solo’ bike, I have the very same GS and I had to order a ‘passenger’ kit for 350 some € in order to be able to ride with a passenger. The bike came with a rear risen, two piece seat and extra foot pegs.

  • @JohnBurnet1

    Hi Toby, I have ordered one but do not get it till March 2018 but BMW must have listened to their customers and upgraded it to the TE which is what I have swapped my std GS TE 2014 for. Chosen to have the TFT screen and the normal big screen but now after watching your video Toby maybe the little one would be nice. But I am small and the normal screen works fine for me on its lowest setting, and because of my short legs I have the lowered suspension upgrade. Cant wait and it was the great colour and the wired wheels that sold it for me as well as being very happy with my existing bike handling and performance.

    @stanlaw7534 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    It is amazing that BMW did not put some crash bars as standard for a presumably off-road bike ! And no centre stand: why ? To cut the cost ? BMW should also have offered this bike either with the Vario panniers or the aluminium panniers mounts. As far as I am concerned, only the aluminium panniers are suitable for off-road riding. This bike does look great and well designed, but I guess if you want to take it seriously off road, you will have to accessorise it a lot, and that will not come cheap. That said, it is indeed a lovely looking bike.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, having panniers on there and especially the aluminium ones would be an advantage. and yeah, no crash bars either!! was a really lovely bike to ride, but like you say, the expense comes from kitting it out :)

    • @texnorthman
      @texnorthman 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm glad they didn't add anything as standard, it means we can choose what crash protection we want on it :) The original BMW bars are known for buckling in towards the cylinder head if you land a bit hard. So now I can add some proper heavy duty protection (SW-Motech in my case but there are tonnes of options), and some more solid panniers than the original BMW aluminium ones (BUMOT in my case, but again there are loads to choose from).
      The bike does end up being very expensive though, and the MSRP is completely misleading! Just adding the required electronic packages will add £2k to the price...

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Viking84 thanks for the info matey, I hadn't thought that way about the extras before. Interesting what you say about the original bars (hope I don't test that out). They aren't cheap bikes but even though expensive they are great :) ride safe

    I've been running with the Rallye for just over 2k miles now. I previously owned the adventure. Love the slimmer tank design and it feels much more manoeuvrable as would be expected with a smaller tank but it's more than that. Been green laning with the standard tyres and it was very muddy, for the best part it was very good and only as good as you could expect in the mud without the right tyres but very impressive.. negatives no protection bars on the engine and the power to the garmin has failed so needs to go back. The hand guard has come lose also but after tightening has happened again.. all in all a real pleasure to ride and feels light and floaty.. love it

  • @Bazza47
    @Bazza47 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wonder if this bike is aimed at the Africa Twin owner who previously had a Adventure as the Rallye is going to be about the same weight as a standard GS? Is the seat height adjustable like on other GS's or is it fixed and did you notice what tyres are on it-maybe something more off road biased. Nice to see rad guards finally being fitted as standard! Great review as usual, keep them coming.

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +adrianbarrie13 you may be right. The seat is adjustable but not by a great deal although a friend altered it and he is shorter than me and it helped him a lot. The one I rode had road tyres on, I guess so that people could try it out but it can be bought with off road tyres too. Thanks for the kind words :)

    The rallye 'bench' seat is meant to be better suited off road, allowing more freedom of movement standing on the pegs, etc. as on a dirt bike.
    Theyre great as long as you are tall enough for them 😉

    once again top notch video .you say you can't put your finger on it maybe the difference is off road .and at least bmw have put the radiator gaurds on .but no headlight protection. .and the moment bmw have to compete with the new honda Africa twin so maybe thay have to throw more at the bmw ....

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thats a very good point Peter. I hadn't thought about them competing with the Africa Twin, but they could definitely have put a headlight protector on it :)

    • @RiderCamTV

      +Stue007 no problem 👍 it has harder suspension that's tweaked for off road but also has the damper and suspension settings so you can set it up to suit you too. So the best of both worlds :)

    With regards to the seating on that "rally" model. I suspect it's for the person whom moves around when riding off-road. As for myself, I actually prefer it over the "stepped" seating systems since I'm pretty talk (6'4") and having this 1 seat is advantageous to me! I'm able to simply sit down and am ready to go!

    Nice bike, I owned the first 1200 GS LC and now the GSA model. They feel the same though, despite the weight difference. The colour is really nice, though I would probably prefer a more road use with higher screen (I travel big distances) and dual seat. I do believe this model is better for offroad, but probably 99% of the users do not have the skills to really use it offroad in a sense that they can't do it with a normal , standard GS. I bet you will see a lot of this model, because of the looks. Did you tried the new KTM'S? Although I'm a BMW fan, I dare to say they put the adventure touring in another league.

    • @RiderCamTV

      +vriendelijkegroet was a great bike to review. Gotta love the GS and GSA. Much better for off-road if the specs are anything to go by, but I know what you mean. I'm in the 99% but perhaps that will change one day ;)

    How is the ride comfort over potholes bad roads. Compared to the ktm 1290s? when Both in its softest settings

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They both cope very well tin be honest. About on par with each other. I know they are both exceptionally good as smoothing things out as I had the camera mounted to the front and it really showed how well these bikes cope as the footage was really very steady :)

    • @Youtuberngajelas
      @Youtuberngajelas 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RiderCamTV to be honest i find it funny you that could say they both offer similar comfort because i reckon my 1290s is way stiffer on bumps and feels harsher and you feel it through the bars on rough roads. I think ill be trading my 1290s for a 2018 gsa rallye as i am looking for a plusher comfier softer sprung bike which is more suitable for rough and bad indonesian roads. Love your channel sir. Keep it up:) one more subscriber for you!

      +Derek Cumbers I thought it looked quite good but now you've mentioned it, it would be awesome in blue :)

    About dropping the bike off-road: there's this saying that goes "if you don't drop the bike, you're not trying enough" 😉

      +ElysianAngel I like that 👌and I guess that's half the fun too :)

    I dont think anyone who will spend strong money on a bike such as this, will be doing any serious off roading save that for the lighter cheaper to maintane bikes.I will be looking to buy one and would certainly put some crash protection on it and have the seat changed to the split kind maybe. just saying kind regards all the best to you

    • @RiderCamTV
      @RiderCamTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +james foy totally agreeJames. If I were lucky enough to have the money for one it would be for on road or if I was a serious off-roader then just for that, but agree. A lot of money to damage it :)

    I went to my local BMW place last Saturday for their 2017 launch day, mainly to see the Rallye in person and to have a sit on it to compare! The salesman I spoke with explained that the suspension had been made harder by default, but you didn't really mention that unless I missed it? Did it feel much firmer than your GS Adventure in turns or hitting ruts etc?
    Good review as usual! 🏍👍🏻

      +Paul White now that you mention it, it was harder than usual but comfortable enough on the road but yeah a little harder ride that my adventure. In turns it was great and added to accuracy, but on the straights a little harder 👍👌

      RiderCamTV I'm a little on the heavier side, so I think it might be of benefit for me!
      All I need now is for my local dealership to get a test model to ride! 👍🏻

      +Paul White it's certainly a bike that will cater for all :) got my fingers crossed for you. Will be interesting to hear how you get on when you ride one :)

      I'll definitely let you know how I get on!
      I did take out a new GS & a S1000XR too! Goes without saying, they were both lovely, but I don't think I'd keep my license very long if I bought the S1000! lol

      +Paul White I know what you mean. When I reviewed the XR that was the one thing that I knew I'd lose if I bought one. And it's always handy to have a licence. Hehhe

    Great review, thank you. If you want to try off road, I would strongly recommend you try offroadskills.com with Simon Pavey. You will get so much more enjoyment out of your GS after a weekend with them, both on and off road.
