For those of you who can't afford a fishing licence .......This place is ideal for the family to have fun with Kahawai. Major rivers like Waimak, where Kahawai lures can actually hook up a Salmon and they do police it regularly for licence so not worth the risk.
Gidday fella. I enjoy your Vids & this was another goodie. I like that you use a single hook as makes for far easier releases rather than a treble hook. Question...what tide do you fish.....incoming? Also access? Cheers
Hey, how is it going. Thanks for the comment. Yep always use a single hook as I find it easier to release the fish and they don't seem to get off as easy. I fish the outgoing generally. South shore is the access point. Cheers
No you don't need a license to fish the mouth of the Waimakariri. If you by chance happen to catch a trout or Salmon you cannot keep it. You will have to release it.
Hi did you have to remove/add washers on your PENN spinfisher3500 to get an even line lay? My new 3500vi has cone shaped laying thicker on the bottom than the top and I had to abandon my first outing due to terrible wind knots. Any other tips to avoid the dreaded wind knots. Thanks a million
Hi, I wouldn't blame the braid. What possibly is happening is that when you cast your line out, you have started winding too fast. What I do is pull the rod slowly sideways and wind very slow. What that does is it takes up the slack line therefore meaning the line is put back on to the spool tighter. If you wind fast straight away the line then loops on to the reel and when you next cast it will pick up that looped line and you will get a knot.
@@canterburyfishingadventures Thank you very much for your reply. Did you have to remove/add washers on your 3500 to get an even line lay. Mine is slightly cone shaped laying thicker on the bottom. It got put on by the complete angler so should be spooled up properly but seems to not lay the line evenly. Did you have to muck around with washers on your 3500 to get it even? Very frustrating when I just want to be smashing Kahawai like your awesome videos!
@@kpcscience I also got mine from complete Angler. I have not tampered with the washers at all. Best to take it back to them and ask them what is going on with your reel. Cheers
@@canterburyfishingadventures Thanks very much for your advice. Went out for 2 hours and no wind knots! Manually turning over bail, keeping tension on the line on the start of the retrieve as you suggested seemed to do the trick. Thanks !
@@canterburyfishingadventures thought I recognized your voice haha!! Nice vids mate- really enjoying them. Definitely keen to link up for a fish sometime🙌🏻

If you have added or have taken away washers, that may be the cause of the extra overlay.
