The voice actor is honestly incredible, it sounds so genuine and natural. Impressive as hell that they managed to hire such amazing actors with a $100 million budget. Other AAA studios need to step up their game.
I have played Act 1 a million times and had no idea you could use that weapon... And the fact that there's a dedicated cutscene if Astarion is caught in the blast is CRAZY deep writing.
You don't exactly *use* that weapon. It's the self-destruct mechanism for the monastery. It only goes off if you steal the Blood of Lathander without disarming the alarms first.

Wow that escape from the Lance cutscene is probably the coolest moment I've seen in BG3 so far. I had no idea that you could activate the lance on purpose 😂

For some reason I got this cutscene without blowing up the building or anything. I was very confused as to what he was on about and had to google to find out what would have happened if I hadn’t solved the puzzle.
The most easy way to get the cutscene is to cheese your way through the puzzle. Clear the way down to the mace room. Run to safety with your group (but leave astarion in the room then when everyone else is to safe have him pick up the mace then shift over to the group make the game go into real time and then wait 30 seconds for it to go BOOM
I got this on my first play through because I somehow got away and everyone else died. I thought I was going to die too, but I was barely far enough away to make it to camp and fix everything.
I did this by accident not realizing that my potion of feather fall didn’t affect him in my first play through until it was too late and I was too far to throw it at him… his dialogue was so funny but I felt so bad 😭
The thing is if you can die and get resurrected anytime by then what is stopping you from forcefully removing the parasite, and get resurrected by withers. Withers is powerful enough to resurrect a mindlflayer which in DnD is normally impossible!

Explorer Mode doubles your HP.
If your HP is too low you might have put too few points into constitution in which case you can always respec with withers!
