I really think since this scene is such a big deal they should have put way more into it. Maybe if you had low approval or didn't know he's a vamp he tries to cover up what he did, but if you knew he was a vamp or had high approval he automatically uses a scroll or withers to resurect you and apologizes... would make a lot more sense.

I let him keep drinking because I trusted him (silly me.) Then it was morning and I was DEAD. I was like "What the fuck Astarion" and then I made him come over and revive me. I did not punch him but I almost wish that I did lol, he deserved it
My friend and I just started this together and will play the whole thing together. When this happened to him he didn't even give him time to explain he just quickly stabbed him in the chest no questions asked. I couldn't stop laughing 🤣
It really shocked me when he was revealed to be a vampire and me being the helpful person I am, allowed him to drink. I really busted my ass laughing when he ended up killing me and then acted as if nothing had happened. I didn’t wanna waste a revive on myself so I loaded up a save and then died thanks to a fail. I love this game
I love that they made him like this. The number of fangirls that are like “My babygirl Astarion can’t be that evil. He approves if you ask the bird in the grove to sing!” He also approves if you kick the bird LOL Anything that gets the treasure from the bird nest. He’s genuinely awful at the beginning of the game and can become genuinely evil by the end of the game.

The fact that he's complicated and capable of incredible character growth depending upon your influence on him makes him one of the most compelling companions in the game. Contrast him with Wyll who has no arc or growth despite being an origin character. He's just semi competent nice guy in unfortunate situation from start to end. Some people like that, but there's not much to make art and fanfics about. Most people who like Astarion aren't pretending he isn't fucked up in act one. Rather, there's compelling reasons why he's so fucked up in act one.

Fr, technically he never had a good meal if the standard is thinking creatures. Traveling he's at least had access to better wildlife than vermine, but then he's also probably more exhausted than usual what with traveling and combat, so probably needs more. In Astarion origin, you end up with a 'dream' that triggers the bite scene... he thought he was being called back to Cazador or yhat Cazador was coming for him, so the bite was both for strength but also to prove that Cazador's command doesn't control him anymore. I just wish they had him explain it to us when we aren't playing as him.
This LeStat character is the most interesting, and a good rogue. It's amazing the amount of options they've worked into the game, though often they end in similar outcomes.

He tried this with my vengeance paladin. Turns out the answer to the question, "Hey, if you die, can I have your stuff?" is 'yes'. After I killed him, I got his stuff.
He's a high elf so it fits that he sees a hood number of thinking races as still just being animals. And who can blame him considering you can in fact talk to animals and some are smarter than spme of the humanoid races such as ogres?
In D&D only a true vampire can turn you into a vampire and then you’ll end up like Astarion a vampire slave who has to do the bidding of his master. Astarion even states that he lived off rodents because that’s the only thing his master lowed him to consume. So unless you find a true vampire (Astarion isn’t a true vampire) then you’ll just end up a gaunt weak thrall
I laughed so hard behind the screen I got a coughing fit when this happend to my PC, but I admit I forgot about the rez spell ( strange cold really fried my brain when I was playing this part) and just save scummed, bummer!
Since my Half-orc monk decicded to put a big stick in the side of his body Asterion left my camp forever. Unfortunatly for him, i know a Witcher that i let in my camp that day after ^^
I feel kinda bad. Astarion told me he was a vampire; I told him to be good and I'm watching him, he turned around and tried to kill my husband's character (who stabbed him with no hesitation). This is why someone always needs to keep watch. Also hubs is playing the dark urge and HE killed the cute bard. I'm surrounded by MURDERERS.
Ran a stake straight through him. Sucks not having a thief...but you gotta trust your party! If there was a disappointing part to that; none of the rest of the party took notice the next morning.

Same, so far I can stop him and he says he only wants to take as tiny bit as he needs and all my stats take -1 while he gets bonus to his. I do it especially when I need anything I can get that needs sneak or rogue talents for him. He never drained me and has never asked me so far to dine again. I only do it when I let him and get that same debuff. I'm a shape-shifting druid PC so doesn't really matter to me I guess? Narratively kinda ironic. Maybe new or old patch?
I don't remember as it's just a one day buff, but I believe it was called "happy" since he was temporarily sated. It's a +1 to attack rolls, might also be to saving throws and something else. It was a decent buff but mechanically speaking not worth dying and going to 1 hp after revival. I also think I lost the benefits of a long rest since well, spent part of it being dead 😅

Same, so far I can stop him and he says he only wants to take as tiny bit as he needs and all my stats take -1 while he gets bonus to his. I do it especially when I need anything I can get that needs sneak or rogue talents for him. He never drained me and has never asked me so far to dine again. I only do it when I let him and get that same debuff. I'm a shape-shifting druid PC so doesn't really matter to me I guess? Narratively kinda ironic. Maybe new or old patch?

Anyone know the specifics of the combat abilities/buffs he receives from going this route?
I don't remember as it's just a one day buff, but I believe it was called "happy" since he was temporarily sated. It's a +1 to attack rolls, might also be to saving throws and something else. It was a decent buff but mechanically speaking not worth dying and going to 1 hp after revival. I also think I lost the benefits of a long rest since well, spent part of it being dead 😅
+1 to rolls until long rest. And no need to feed him in the first place, he gets this buff as long as his bite attack connects.

Plus now you get to have him bitr enemies.
Even if you don't let him bite you, you still unlock his bite ability. (He's not afraid to show his Vampiricness).
I kept hoping if I left my character dead after that, that I'd come back as a vampire.
