The second "reward" that I forgot to show was that you get a passive skill called "Unstable Blood", which causes your blood to explode when in contact with fire. EDIT: A number of people are asking how do I get this cutscene or who she is. You must meet and interact with her in Moonrise towers in Act 2, she will be around the first floor, alone in her lab. You need to be in a romance with Astarion, have good standing with him, respect his choice of not forcing him to drink her tainted blood in Act 2 for this cutscene, and also allow her to take your blood the first time around. You will meet her again in Act 3, progress a little until you enter the Lower City and she will be at X69 Y84, then this exact scene will play. Not sure if this affects it or not, but I had also completed his personal quest at Cazador's Palace, and asked him not to ascend. I love how back when she offered us that potion in exchange for Astarion's bite and Astarion said "no," we had the option to say, "He said no. There's nothing more to discuss." And now that she wants our blood, after we've said "no," Astarion sticks up for us and chimes in with, "He said 'NO,' You should learn the meaning of the word." I find it so cute how we have each other's backs.
This is how I ran my evil playthrough, he and I had each other's backs and pretty much nobody else's. The other companions were just means to an end but when it was him or me on the line things got serious.

Araj " prime bleeder." "risky but um safe" " Drink it far over there." This is a lady whom you can trust with a mystery potion no doubt at all. :p This is a character in a game that is clearly crazy as a cat but you hope she lasts till the end.
I figured "screw it, I have Withers and revivify scrolls" and went for it. That's my Tav's attitude about most things, actually. Walking through a minefield while my slight of hand character was at camp since I needed some quest important ones? Screw it, I have healing potions and going back to camp sounds annoying. Can't quite line up that spell so I'm not in the area of effect? Meh. Worse to have to kill them without the spell then need a bonus action for a healing potion. Challenging a wizard with the power to imprison a demigod? Defying Shar and pushing her follower to do the same? Not killing my protector for Vlakith in the middle of a temple full of Githyanki? Spray painting her picture while just out of sight of the training hall? Drinking random potions or dubious alcohol? Old skeleton dude will bring me back. Didn't work out every time, I did end up losing my eye to a hag, but she doesn't care about self preservation much. She tested the astral tadpole on Gale first, but illithids were basically the only thing she showed any caution towards since obviously none of those healing effects get rid of them.
I love the very beginning. Your character just trotting through town. Then, when the sudden explosion happens, they run in the opposite direction for a second. "La, la la, la-la-" *_BOOM_* _"-NOPE!"_
He's not the only delightful character. If you can, make sure you get the Speak with Animals spell or skill somehow, because there's so many animal interactions in this game that are just golden. I mean, you can easily craft/buy potions for those, but still...
I'm in Moonrise Towers, and I got curious because I plan on killing Araj for how she treated Astarion. It's wonderful to see him so confident and relaxed. The dynamic is entirely different from the first time he encountered her. I love seeing him so happy (and protective).
@@Ishbella86 Nah, you can. She was the second or third I assassinated while trying to thin out the numbers in Moonrise. I don't know what she does if she's allowed to act, but for isolated kills I usually cast hold person on a stronger target and try to take them out before they break free. Maybe that's what made a difference for me.

The game bugged out for me during this convo and I couldn't refuse the potion, so out of spite I threw it on the floor and shot it with a crossbow. Now I almost regret doing that. (but fun fact, if you drop the potion, she yells at you to be careful, and if you destroy it she turns hostile, so its cool they thought of that scenario lmao)
Fun fact, small spoilers depending on if you did Astarion's story with Cazador first: When she says the line, "Erm...Safe!", around 04:15, Astarion in this playthrough says "Say no - the only thing she's offering is pain and I don't want to see you hurt." But with a maxed dispositioned, Vampire Lord Astarion, he says, "Do not trust anything this woman says. And certainly don't drink anything she offers you." I read a comment somewhere that vampires in DND have an alignment shift; that love in a sense is twisted to lust, protectiveness, ownership even, and it really comes across in this line. One will care about the player because of love and not wanting to see them hurt from a potion. But Astarion the vampire lord will see the potion as potentially harming what is *his*. All the other lines remain unchanged though.
also around 2:22 at the end of the line, Vampire Lord Astarion adds something like "as long as she rembers who belongs to whom this time" I don't remember the exact line, but yeah
Still hot af, I mean, you have the 'On your knees' scene, but yeah, indulging in his pursuit of power will make him like Casador. You can't disengage with him once he becomes a vampire lord, he simply doesn't allow you (not that I would, but yeah he doesn't respect you as an equal anymore, you've become his possession)

I didn't really know much about the drow race, so I just assumed Araj was just a coincidentally unsettling/disrespectful individual (asking permission from ME about a service she wants from ASTARION, and asking ME to make him behave, like I was his handler or something). I didn't think much of it besides assuming she was put here as an excuse to poke at Astarion's autonomy issues specifically. But then later I read about drow society and how all males are considered property/breeding slaves of females (and I was playing a female-bodied Tav), and I realized: 'Ohh, I see; she thinks he's my dog'. She wasn't being a bitch, she was just being a highborn female drow xD Wish there would've been a difference in her tone depending on what gender you play as, though. Like, if you play a male, she'll adress Karlach, Lae'zel, SH or Jaheira instead like you're not even worth her time.

she is definitely my favorite npc in the game. so many other people be like "i killed her back in moonrise tower and didnt let her get my blood or make astarion drink her blood! me: my drow princess, you can have it all! its a give and take kinda relationship because as i am in conversation with her i switch characters to astarion and pickpocket her dry so in the end everybody is happy. i also gave astarion the +2 str because with his dual wielding attacks he could use it more than my warlock main.

Huh I missed this because I just went through Moonrise Towers clearing out the Absolute before the final battle. She was long gone. I was playing a Gloom Stalker Drow Ranger. I put Astarion on Assassin. Being proactive seemed the right thing to do in this case.
I just notice my Tav is losing a lot of opportunities because of my self preservation tendencies. No, I am not sharing my blood with random strangers. No I am not drinking weird potions, who knows what's in them? No, I am DEFINITELY not putting more worms in my brain! I almost didn't recruit Gale because I decided that I am not going to put my hands into some weird portals. It can be dangerous!
No, I'm on neutral/good alignment. Not sure if this helps but I'm Dark Urge, finished Astarion's personal quest so I'm romance locked, persuaded him not to ascend, and accepted his "no" during the first Ablaj encounter in Moonrise.
@@bigppishaSame, though before I first heard his voice, Astarion's aesthetic and nature reminded me of my comfort character from my adolescence (titular vamp from Legacy of Kain). And the more I learned about Astarion, the more I could draw parallels between his story and Kain's, so the spawn became another one of my favorite comfort characters. 💗

@@Tran809 I ended up looking her up after this. Turns out I did meet her but didn’t trust what she wanted my blood for so turned her down. Now I’m sad. Just means I’ll have to make sure to do it on my next playthrough.

i ended up killing her in the moonrise towers in my playthrough, bc i accidentally started a fight and ended up wiping half of moonrise at the start of act2 💀
Huh I missed this because I just went through Moonrise Towers clearing out the Absolute before the final battle. She was long gone. I was playing a Gloom Stalker Drow Ranger. I put Astarion on Assassin. Being proactive seemed the right thing to do in this case.

I just notice my Tav is losing a lot of opportunities because of my self preservation tendencies. No, I am not sharing my blood with random strangers. No I am not drinking weird potions, who knows what's in them? No, I am DEFINITELY not putting more worms in my brain! I almost didn't recruit Gale because I decided that I am not going to put my hands into some weird portals. It can be dangerous!

is this an evil astarion/evil playthrough? Astarion behaved differently for me here. He was a lot more relaxed and softer.
No, I'm on neutral/good alignment. Not sure if this helps but I'm Dark Urge, finished Astarion's personal quest so I'm romance locked, persuaded him not to ascend, and accepted his "no" during the first Ablaj encounter in Moonrise.

@@bigppishaSame, though before I first heard his voice, Astarion's aesthetic and nature reminded me of my comfort character from my adolescence (titular vamp from Legacy of Kain). And the more I learned about Astarion, the more I could draw parallels between his story and Kain's, so the spawn became another one of my favorite comfort characters. 💗

Make sure he is close when it starts, I recommend slowly walking up to her and if you can stop and let everyone catch up
@@user-mu8ok5xf8d he was right behind me, he didn't say anything. My approval with him is exceptional too and I've had a pretty decent romance so far. But this isn't the first bug I've faced in the romance so, oh well.
Did you speak to her and do her dialogue in Moonrise Towers? Otherwise yeah, it sounds like a bug :(
@@rohverr yeah I did, and I didn't make astarion drink from her. But I tried talking to her again, making sure astarion was right beside me and it worked so thanks to the person who suggested it

When I went through here romancing Astarion I didn't get him telling me to say no... but I didn't want to take it anyway in fear it might make my blood taste bad to him 😅
