If you own a BMW G20 or any new BMW and the fake engine noises has bothered then this video is for you! Here is how you can code off the Active Sound Design (ASD) that BMW uses to make the engine noises that come through your cars speakers. Also shows you how to code in a feature that allows you to control your exhaust valve.
This was done on my 2021 G20 330i but will work on any 3 series , 4 series and I imagine all other newer models that have this fake noise piped in.

Worked nicely on my 2020 330i. Now have complete control over the exhaust sound valve. Active sound was not available on my bimmercode. Also turned of start/stop function. Thank you very much.

Thanks, this was exactly what I was looking for. When set to sporty it now opens the exhaust valve in comfort mode on my G21 (but remains closed on eco, which is fine with me).

Are you sure this keeps the valve open while driving? when I put the car in the drive I hear the valve close. Anyways great job with the video it awesome to have someone in the G20 community making videos like this!
I have the same thing. The valve opens in “Parking” and “Neutral”, but in the moment I put the “Drive” or “Sport/Manual” it’s gone.

Europe has different regulations then US. Wanky Brussel made emission restrictions, thats why the g20 lost their burbles after july 2019. Us on ither habd had not such regulations as this mfrks in Europe. My car lost also his burbles after the Over The Air update

When you go into Expert mode for BCD there is all this stuff about M like M sound and I saw something abt xtra boost... are any of the M features in expert mode useful?

I Coded M sound to see if it did anything and could not discern any differences so my guess is nothing.

hey man, i watched every single video u uploaded and they helped me a lot. i have a 2021 x5 G05 and i followed every single step u showed, my idrive menu has that engine sound option now, but nothing happened not matter what i choose "sporty" "balanced" "reduced", any clue? thanks

I noticed that and was curious as well. I’m Going to have to do more research and play with it to find out.
so I coded in and still cant seem to find out what it does. It may be a feature that is for M models that doesn't do anything for our cars.

Hey bro I’ve seen my M340 with the M3/M4 dashboard. So when u put it on sport mode it changes completely. Check if you can ever do that on your videos.
Do you know if, with eco mode, the valve will stay closed? For other modes, I don't mind if they're both open but specifically for eco mode, I do prefer them closed. For obvious gas reasons lol. Thanks again mate, your other video helped me unlock sport mode plus so I appreciate your content!
Eco mode will remain closed as long as you select for that

@@zlatkosekulovski9618 They are not the same. For starter different head gasket, so 330i can work with higier boost.
any huge mods planned for your car? Been thinkin about doing a resonator delete to bring out the exhaust note more with keeping the stock valves.. any ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated. Also love the videos. Just ordered my obd2 connector yesterday, gonna sit in my car and code the interior lights, valve mod and asd delete, and sport mode. Appreciate the overwhelming long amount of time it wouldve taken me to figure all this stuff out lol :D
Thanks for watching! For sure some more cosmetic mods planned and likely trying different piggybacks and maps. I ordered a draggy so I can start reviewing performance a bit more. I’m also considering doing something with the exhaust but still trying to figure out what exactly I’m going to do.
I have 2020 model (without the mild hybrid system). I removed my resonator, coded sports plus, and keep my exhaust flap open at all times. The amount of pops and burbles from the exhaust is amazing, practically louder than a M340i. With the resonator delete, there is a huge difference in sport plus, and hardly any difference in comfort and sport.

After doing the new update today to the iDrive it somehow reset to default all my codings that I’ve done so far in the expert modes. I also realized that they added NEW display modes which now has also M sport. When I coded it it actually just ads the M logo in the middle but the colors stay the same which I like. I also saw that you have two new options for the M display with 160mph and 200mph. Haven’t tried them since I like immediately the M sport so I left in that mode. Just FYI for everyone
Yes Any update to Idrive will remove any coding that’s been done. And I’ve noticed the same updates to Bimmercode, haven’t gotten around to trying though. Thank you for sharing!

I know oem bmw only opens the value a little, does this code allow it to open the full way or is that another mod you did to open it the full way

hey, so i coded, when it’s in P, i can open the valve but when i change to D, the valve automatically close, and when i put back to P, valve opens, it also opens in R - do you know how to fix this? thank you
So what's the difference in coding this option vs driving in S and sport or sport+?
I bought a BMW G20 320i M 2019 Edition. Does it have Valves? I only have the Eco / Comfort / Sport Modes- No Sport + Mode. It sound good but no Bubble sounds and what ever. So with Coding I can open the Valves? I heard that BMW changed the Sound because it was to load and what ever for a series 3BMW. I hope everything was understandable I'm not a Native English speaker. Just tried this code but my BimmerCode does not have the “head unit” option. Does anyone know if the exhaust code is still able to be done?
Do you know where can i find that option "display_configurability_engine_sound" since my bimmercode(i have updated it?) does not show search bar while in headunit expert mode?
You can either scroll down reading one line at a time until you get there or you can scroll up to reveal the search bar. 😊 it doesn’t show by default
hey man loved the vid and did it to my g20 330i but everytime the car turns off and locks it always goes back to depending on driving mode and doesn't stay on sporty exhaust do you have this same issue and have you solved it?

New sound settings does not work in 2023 m340i LCI , Coding was successful, but no options have appeared
Appreciate the info man! I’m hoping this fixes my 2021 M340i’s not having any pops or burbles but will still be happy with a louder exhaust until BM3 cracks the DME code.
It should help get a bit more Burbles but yes a tune will be the best route once the dme is cracked!
This was 10 months ago, so wanted to know if you did this to your 2021 m340i? If so were there any changes

Unfortunately not. This is for G series and won’t work for F series

It doesn’t let you select the modes? That’s strange, did you activate both of the ones i mentioned in the video? Try using Bimmercode to restore your car to a previous date and coding again.
I did the same thing and it also doesn’t let me select the “sporty” tab. But I understand why in my case, I have a 320d, diesel, and I have checked and mine doesn’t even have the valve. Guess it wouldn’t make a great change in a small diesel engine!

@@rearwheeled8147 Bimmercode coding doesn't let me choose the modes and the flap is closed, however bimmelink does open the flap.
Just did it on my 22 M3. I have the engine sound menu, but I can’t select anything but “Depending on driving mode.” Even when I move the cursor to Sporty, Balanced, or Reduced; it won’t let me pick any of those options.

How do you learn to do all of the expert mode coding? Awesome video too keep it up.
Mostly going through Bimmercode and seeing what’s available as well as going on the forums and seeing what other members have done with their cars. Can involve trial and error but i try and make sure i keep track of any changes so I can correct if i do anything incorrectly.

Does this method allow the valve to remain open all the time? Or does it reset when the car is turned off? Would you recommend coding it in and removing the fuse 203 ?
It will close after you turn off the car. No need to remove the fuse, you can also simply just unplug from underneath the car once the valve opens then it will remain open.
@@rearwheeled8147 so it wont automatically re open the entire time after you start it? or do you have to code it each time unless you remove the cord at the bottom?
You won’t have to code it each time but you will have to turn it on in the menu that I’m showing how to code here. This menu is mostly to allow the valve to be open in comfort or eco mode. The valve is open in sport mode.
Another thing you can do is code the car to start in Sport mode which will have the valve open.
330e G20 here, I coded both "sound" parameters to active/enabled, but I hear and see no difference. The valve stays closed.

They would have to be looking for it and even if they do see it they likely won’t care. It’s a function that BMW created and just didn’t have activated, you’re not coding in anything harmful.

I get you. Warranty is only affected if they can trace the cause of the issue to the modification you did. Highly highly doubt this would affect the warranty in any way.

I tried this on my 2020 G21 330i, in Europe. I have coded it with Veepeak. I coded successfully and I even got the option to set motor sound to sporty. But the sound of the exhaust sounds the same. What is going wrong?

Good thing my F15 X5 doesn't have any of that fake engine noise... one time I test drove a G05 and it has a lot, not a fan.

Why i can’t coding my instrumental display on the LCI?
Would any coding (adding additional lights to ambient lighting, sport plus mode, opening valves) affect the warranty when taken in for service? I have 2022 330i lease and was just wondering if using Bimmercode would harm anything.
No, chances are they won’t even notice. As long as you are only doing basic coding, you’ll be fine.

Yea I’ve done all those and went to the dealership Without issues. These are all options BMW has available for their cars that just were not set to active in certain regions or for certain models so it’s not like you’re coding something that BMW didn’t offer.
The only thing that may happen is that if the dealership does a software update to your car then you’ll lose what you coded in. You can easily just re-code it, though

No, the car is actually pretty smart and won’t even allow you to open the valve until the engine is up a bit in temperature.

I switched to sport engine sound, but the valve will close anyway when I choose Eco mode, any way to solve it?
Start the engine and put it into Sport Plus mode. Leave the engine running and remove the fuse that controls the exhaust valve from the fuse board.
I have an X5 G05 so in my case it is fuse 203 that controls the exhaust valve and the fuse board is located in the trunk/boot side panel.
Can I do this with bimmercode? What about bm3?

Its for the Active Sound from your speakers. It will only Work on the M3 and M4 models.

I believe it should. It has sport mode so it should have the valve.
You can confirm by cold starting the car and putting the car in Sport mode. Once you do that, stand behind the car and after the car warms up you should hear the valve click open.

This coding will not but If you want it to memorize Sporty everytime you get in the car then Code your car to start in Sport or Sport Individual mode.

Your valve is opened when you put your car into Sport or Sport+ Mode. This mod allows the valve to be open even in Comfort or eco mode.

That explains it, it’s because you have the electric version. Unfortunately this will not work for your model.

so i coded all this in and it is not opening and closing when i switch between engine noise settings. is this possibly because you have sport plus unlocked on yours? I havent done that yet.
What car do you have? It should switch between modes even without even coding, that’s a default setting. Just make sure the car is warmed up first,

Yes it’ll switch. Have someone stand behind the car or record with your phone and you’ll hear it click when you switch from Comfort to Sport.
@@rearwheeled8147 Got it to switch, just had to let it warm up. Seems to close up when you put it in drive. I think im gonna just pop it open and pull the power to the valve to leave it open.
You can unplug it, that will allow it to stay open in every mode but it will no longer close.
It doesn’t close when putting in Drive unless your car isn’t fully warmed up. That valve is the reason why you’ll hear more noise or Burbles in Sport mode when compared to Comfort mode.

Not really true for the 330i but was pretty much proven for the m340 when comparing older 2020 models with 2021 models. The 2020 models on the older software did sound louder
@@rearwheeled8147 hey so I’m a salesman that drives around 400 miles a week. This car would make a lot more sense than the m340i? I currently drive an e90 330i which has been great. Don’t really like the f30. But really debating on m340 and 330i. Thanks again
They 330i will be a bit better on fuel savings but the M340i gets surprisingly good mileage as well, especially if you pop it into eco mode. I wouldn’t let the be the deciding factor since I honestly don’t believe there’s big enough of a difference. Consider the cost and performance you want to be at.
The 330i is definitely cheaper and has all the same luxuries except the Inline 6 engine. The M340 is more expensive but the engine is on another level of performance, honestly. The 330i is definitely quick enough but the M340 is just quick; the quickest when comparing to its current competitors.
I’m honestly happy with my 330i but you may not be. Give both a test drive.
