How to fix Ford unavailable rear view camera

- Update: I ended up changing the backup camera • Ford Explorer backup c... . This may not work for everyone. This is just a quick non expensive way to make the camera work. It worked for me for about 2 months now i am having the same problem i might have to replace the camera. This is the first time this happened so i thought i should make a video

Lol you have to take the entire hatch apart to replace it, I did this trick and it only worked ONCE, then my whole camera stopped working. Replaced myself now it works. Never take it to the dealership unless it’s necessary

@@cw9533 2014 Ford Fusion SE. Sadly, due to upgrading my subs, I can’t have a backup camera anymore or they’ll just instantly rattle apart. But upon changing the camera the new one worked. Until it rattled apart.

I know this is 3 1/2 years since you posted this. I have a 2014 Ford Fusion, your fix worked, the dealership wanted to charge me $600 to replace the camera. You are a life saver.

2014 Fusion Titanium, Enhanced park aids were on, rear camera delay off. Switched them opposite and got the camera working then returned to where they originally were. Thanks for the free lesson for today!

I have been battling with this issue for months now. My camera has been doing the same thing you showed in your video and been intermittently getting worse over time. Now it rarely displays an image. I have been debating on whether or not I should start opening up panels to review the camera's hardware or just fork out the cash to let the dealership do it. I had a similar issue with my Ford Flex. The camera was working about 50% of the time. I got my wheel alignment done and it now works 100% of the time. I'm not sure how the two are related, but that is what fixed my intermittent backup camera issue.

Glad I found this video. This worked on my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo; disable the camera via my system setup and re-enabled the camera and the camera came back on. My mom noticed the camera not being detected after she went to the dealer to take care of a recall to our jeep. She later took it to the same dealer and they wanted to charged her $125 to check the system and $800 to replace the camera. Hopefully I don't have to replace the camera or it could be just a fuse issue as I saw on another video.
Ya hopefully you won't have to replace it. I will highly doubt that it would be a fuse. If it was a fuse it wouldn't work at all. Camera's are just like anything they will eventually stop working, but the longer they work the better it is.

Worked on my 2014 F=150 !! "Rear view camera unavailable" message started yesterday. I tried this fix this afternoon and it worked !! Don't know how long it will last, but saved me a ton of $$$ and hassle.

That has happened to me twice in the past week, but both times it has mysteriously fixed itself on the next engine cycle. I'll remember to try your reset next time it happens. Thanks.

Your step’s didn’t work for my daughter’s car, but what did work was going to SETTINGS and scrolling down to MASTER RESET. Backup camera works now. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️😂🤷🏻♂️

worked for me! 2011 ford explorer. at first i thought it didnt work. tried it 3 times. so i gave up and went shopping. after i restarted the engine and went to leave... IT WORKED!! no lines or zoom are working but cam works!

Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery wait 10 minutes and plug it back. If that doesn't work you might have to change the camera. I ended up changing the camera on the explorer, it stopped working after a certain amount of time.

Amazing! I went to the dealership AFTER I found this. I spent money on a diagnostic test to be told that I have to buy a new camera at a cost of almost $900. If only I saw this video before I paid for a diagnostic test.

Works...... kinda..... but good enough for me!!!!! 😁 My camera settings are different, I have "enhanced park aid" and "rear camera delay" only. When I set them to off, camera seems to always work. When I turn "enhanced park aid" on, it only works intermittently like before, but I can live without the enhanced mode...... THANKS! 👍

This is why I hate electronics crap on my cars! There's always some invisible glitch. I'd love to know what actually causes this one, but thanks for the work around.

Also try cleaning it with a magic eraser. I think if the camera is too dirty, it makes it go out.

Unfortunately this did not work for me. I have been planning to disconnect the battery for more than a month now but never gotten around to doing it. I don't depend on the backup camera when backing up but it is one of those things since I have it on my car, I want it working the way it is supposed to work.
