    That red rock road really is special. Close to monaco ofcourse. And a car with a good 60 miles of real world range in ev only but still having that engine is the combination thats needed. Too many times these hybrids dont have enough full ev running range but this does and its a game changer. Welldone Renault.

    I don’t know if I’m being a bit of a grumpy old man here but, while this is undoubtedly a very cleverly designed car and I don’t doubt pleasant to drive, I’m left wondering about how all these clever systems will be operating 10yrs down the road??… Adaptive suspension reading the road ahead for bumps, four wheel steer etc etc….. all very good if you’re buying a super car and have the money to maintain it into the future, but this is ultimately a ‘middle of the road family SUV’ which in 10yrs time will be changing hands for £5k not £50k, and the person paying 5k is not going to be able to afford to maintain/repair these systems. Sorry Renault/Alpine but the wrong direction here over complicating a day to day car…

    "styling" ( aka, teenage designers messing about with plastic) is the regular generic , faceless stuff - there's really nothing different here. the wheels are an appalling mess. Three engines ...really?
    Display "design" ?? Nobody, in the automotive world has this nailed . Unfortunately, all manufacturers have outsourced their software and digital design to ensure you're 'locked; into a dash facility and design that will be stilted, aged and inconvenient within 2 years. There's a reason Microsoft and Apple and a 100 fone companies change their software all the time - and that's because , digital life-moves-on ALL THE TIME.

    Yea, perfect PHEV. That 65 miles in EV will cover most peoples journeys/commute, the 600 mile is twice any pure EV for longer, hassle free journeys.
    A bit expensive, but it is high spec and quite fast.

    • @SDK2006b
      @SDK2006b หลายเดือนก่อน

      The number of people who NEED 600 miles of daily range is tiny !
      Even less people for doing this without stopping for a break.
      You could do this in many EV’s stopping to charge for around 45mins [600 miles is well over 10 hours of driving - range is limited by bladder size and refreshment requirements. rather than the size of your fuel tank or battery]

    • @sargfowler9603
      @sargfowler9603 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@SDK2006b No, the people that need 600 mile is almost everyone. It's what they're used to.
      I don't want to have to fill up every 150 miles, that's just ridiculous.
      If that was the case, why don't ICE cars have 15 litre tanks?
      Yes, I may stop every couple of hours on a break, but I just don't want the hassle of having to find a charger to get going or make the return journey home.

      @SDK2006b หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ - “almost everyone needs 600 miles of daily range “🤔🤣
      Average UK daily mileage : 24 miles 🤷🏼‍♂️
      You need to think differently, and not use an EV the same as you do with an ICE car. With an EV you charge it whilst it’s not being used - when it’s parked up, or whilst you are sleeping.
      Doing it this way means it’s actually more convenient.

      Badges don't mean anything anymore. "Luxury" cars have a lot of cost-cutting in them, and at this time, it really feels like an almost level playing field.

    • @SDK2006b
      @SDK2006b หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @ - higher end badges still have value.
      BMW/Audi/Merc still have much higher quality interiors than the Ford/Kia/Renault etc..and they also have more power & performance.
      VAG restricts higher power to the more premium brands. This high end ‘Alpine’ Renault has less power, than entry level Audi/Merc/BMW offerings.
      My BMW iX interior is massively better over the lower level brands - glass crystal controls, metal switches, ‘leather’ lined door panels and it feels more solid. The infotainment systems run faster processors, so there is less lag when navigating through the menus. There is also more sound insulation used, so the cabin is quieter.
      Much of this can’t be realised by simply watching a YT video - you need to sit in them, drive them and use them for more than a couple of days to appreciate the differences.

    I’m with you Ped, glad to see a hybrid with increased EV range and clever integration- I think people forget we are in a transition phase- Solid state / low impact batteries are probably 10years away from mass adoption, the charger infrastructure is probably 5 years away so why not make use of this combination- most of my inefficient car running is in town or traffic jams so EV for 80% of journeys and hybrid for the remainder- that is still a win in my book- interesting to see what Renault can produce for £50k compared to nearly £80k of Macan ( oh and you actually fit in the rear of this one) - I like French design but Renault is following Peugeot with to many fussy angles.

    Say, for instance, you want to drive from Bristol to London in one go, 125 miles. When the battery is depleted after 60 miles, I bet the fuel consumption is very poor. Lugging all that extra weight, to me that is the drawback of plugins they are great for shorter trips if you have home charging, but not such a good idea if you want to travel longer distances. As a massive fan of the Alpine A110, all this Alpine badging on a 2.5 tonne PHEV SUV makes me feel so sad......with all this tech to go wrong no one will want to run these cars past the 3 year warranty.

    I wonder if the EV range was designed to coincide with proposals for future ULEV zones in many cities. As I recall 60 miles was mentioned in a consultation paper about Londons zone some 10 years ago.
    I wonder if your next drive in this format car could be round your normal route to show off how well or otherwise it copes with UK roads.

    Grumpy old me again having my reasons why I'm not a fan of plug in hybrid cars & especially one's that are 50k!!!😱 But I actually quite like it apart from certain preferences ie piano black around the dash & black wheel arches what is all that about soo many manufacturers are going black wheel arches!!🤔🤮 And the plug in Hybrid thing so its a no from me but awesome place for a test drive & a great review as ever PetrolPed !!👍🏻

    • @HQBProductions
      @HQBProductions หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Now try not to be grumpy but a Plug in Hybrid has a lot of merit when properly understood! I suspect you think the way many do in that you drive 30/40 miles then the battery is flat so you lug a mountain of dead weight around and hence get short EV running and a thirsty Tank to drive afterwards. Well that is NOT how to use them. A PHEV is a petrol car with electrical assistance at times. Charge it up…then choose the “ SAVE” option and you get a car that is electric at low speeds or when chosen, that pulls away using the regenerated and FREE electric from braking and that combines with the engine to give better fuel consumption and efficiency. My Range Rover Sport is a PHEV and I charge it maybe twice a week at home but my day to day mixed driving gives me 33/36 mpg and 40/44 mpg on the open road..motorways etc. it works brilliantly…no range anxiety…I can move it around or park without starting the engine and it is so quiet and refined everywhere else. Now I doubt you will agree or be convinced but for real world use, a PHEV is really good…just don’t run it flat then drive petrol only..that really is the worst way possible. Happy motoring! 🙂🙂🙂🙂

      @HQBProductions WOW what a reply not from @PetrolPed tho?? I understand what you are saying but I travel a lot in France & Spain & that's the issues as when everyone pulls into a petrol station most times it's ramO & the queue is way too long to charge for my liking!!😬

    Thank you for sharing this test. In fact, the real alternative to the internal combustion engine would be closer to this superb Renault Rafale than to a 100ù electric car? I had planned to replace my PHEV with an electric car, but I think that this Rafale Atelier Alpine will do the job very well, with elegance and obviously a real pleasure to drive...
    And the video is perfect.

    I have a Mazda CX60 PHEV and like it, except the ride is crashy and too firm. Please tell me this does better on bad roads, because otherwise I think this could be a contender for my next car. Also, can you charge the battery of the Rafale while driving like in my CX60, which is a useful function.

    Starts at €53k and with all the options goes beyond €55000! €53000 for this. Something I honestly would NOT buy even for €30000.
    Look at that plastic interior. That's the lowest tier garbage materials for €53000.
    And look at the powertrain. It demands you to plug it in daily or else you're just lugging around a HUGE amount of weight using the miserable 1.2 l 150 HP ICE. Forget about any trips beyond 100 km in this. Your mileage will be horrible once that threshold is passed and the battery is depleted. Or maybe you want to sit somewhere for 2 h 55 min for every ~40 min spent driving at 120-130 km/h, to fully recharge the battery.
    Just the fact that this car exists is an insult. Massive bankruptcies cannot come soon enough and they are coming.

    With regard to fuel consumption, assuming it is the same (unknown formula) as my Toyota PHEV C-HR, it is totally unrealistic. Let me explain, if I just run on EV I do not get a reading, just an infinity sign. Then if I drive all EV for 35 miles and then Gas for just 1 mile, I think the onboard computer looks at the 36 miles at the consumption of just 1 mile and states you are doing 300+ mpg or whatever. It does not take into account the kWh cost for the 35 miles and transferring it to money and then conjoining it with the cost of a gallon of fuel. The problem with the cars formula is if you do 35 miles on EV and then 1 or 2 or 3 etc on petrol you will get wildly different fuel consumptions. Listen the C-HR is a great car and by taking into account my EV consumption and Gallon cost the car is somewhere in between 150-200 mpg COST. Bust even this changes as the first 1000 miles took 5 gallons to top up, the same as the second 1000 miles but the third 1000 miles has only used 2 Gallons because a higher percentage of my driving is whin the EV range between charges
    Perhaps I have misunderstood how the “official” mpg are arrived at and if so can someone please enlighten me
