Happy Weds everyone! Hope your week is going well! We are traveling all this week driving/seeing several new 2025 models and we will be uploading a full review on just the Turbo S CX-70 and that video will post on 5/21 at 8am EST. Come back then for full details on both powertrains!
I have been following your chanel for years. You purchased a jeep 4xe and I was wondering if you still have it and do you recommend that vehicle? I am about to pick up a 2024 wrangler 4xe high altitude tomorrow but I am still skeptical about its reliability. Please advise if you see this
Love your reviews! Literally started looking for SUV's last week after deciding a Tacoma wasn't going to meet my needs, saw the CX 90 and wished there was a two row version and Voila!!! Also had a CX 50 for a rental recently and liked it a lot.
I love the design details that differentiated it from the CX-90, but OMG I wish they had shortened the length about 6 inches. It would be the PERFECT ‘poor man’s’ X5! I feel like it was a missed opportunity(for me). Le Sigh.
I don't know what happened here. Maybe they couldn't afford to make a drastic change to the design. It's a lazy effort. They didn't even remove the cupholders behind the second row.
@@PhillyFan20 I wondered that myself. Since they are a ‘smaller’ company, altering platforms like that is no easy or cheap feat. But, I’m not buying that people are asking for THAT MUCH space behind the 2nd row.
Agree. X5 is about 194 inches. This thing is almost 202 inches, the size of an X7. I am hoping Mazda will release smaller version in a year or two. I would buy the high output inline 6. But, Mazda really screwed this up, IMO. So many people will take a pass on this boat.
Love both the melting copper and red independently... but totally agree on this specific combo clashing. Really surprised they even offer them together.
I have no idea why people keep beating up on this. It's a nice vehicle. So what if they didn't shorten it? Think for the average driver it would have made any difference? Nope.
I agree but looks like Mazda was afraid of it cutting into their best seller CX5 and the similarly sized CX50. It is much more classy looking though. Id like it in black with that Terra Cotta interior
@@peepinR You need to take into account that Mazda SUV line up is split into two sub-brands essentially. That is Small and Large Architecture, which is defined by the powertrains and not the size of the car. On a scale of 20 to 90, Small architecture CX20 to CX50 Large architecture CX60 to CX90
I can say I really don't want the touch screen controls. The rotary dial is great.. If they enabled touch they'd have to change the UI because the rows for rotary would be annoying to touch. But by forcing rotary, they force customers who'd intuitively reach to stop doing that and use the better controls while driving.
Me too. I recently rented the JGC 4xe and really liked it, it made me want a plugin hybrid. Great features, nice materials, and awesome power, but I'm worried about buying a Stellantis product. They always seem like 3 days from bankruptcy or something.
I test drove the Crown Signia last week. Exterior styling is very good. Power is ok but motor is a bit noisy. Front seats are very good, but I did not like the all-black interior. Headlights are disappointing - potentially a deal-breaker. I tested a Limited model with a $1500 premium drive control system. MSRP in CA was $57500. Way too much IMHO. I am now looking for an X5 off lease for about $49K
I like bronze very much. I'm not sure about the red. I don't think so. I love your reviews I don't know how you remember all the facts. But thanks so much.
Sure it has all the good things about the CX90 but, they should have cut off 6 inches and given us a true X5 competitor. instead, a CX90 with seats removed as a lazy marketing exercise
I just bought this CX 70 a few days ago. I got the polymetal gray which looks amazing with the red interior. I was cross shopping the BMW X5. I chose this for the better price. I wish it had a little more power but it is a great option with a luxury feel without the luxury price.
Sofyan, great review. Know the embargo hasnt lifted, but seems like a comparo would be pretty interesting against the Crown Signia, especially when you can talk to driving dynamics and refinement + NVH vs driver engagement
I just bought mine yesterday! I LOVE IT! I wanted the space of a 3-row SUV WITHOUT the 3rd row! I wanted a hybrid too! I’m so excited! I love it. Also- not a fan of the red interior.
I love that Mazda is confident enough to bring out competitors. I really questioned making this thing so large but they have a point- Americans love big cars.
what are the vents immediately behind the rear seats? Are the third row vents still present as the cupholders are? anyone knows? i would actually appreciate an answer as i have two dogs i can put in the trunk.
I don’t care how much Mazda says they didn’t shorten the length to provide best in class trunk and rear seat legroom. We all know that this was the CHEAPEST option for Mazda to bring another nameplate to the market. The CX-70 looks like a trim level of the CX-90 with the 3rd row deleted. Lame 🤷🏾♂️
It is pretty interesting that Mazda positions itself in the same class as luxury vehicles. I always just thought they would compare to Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc. Not quite sure I’d consider Mazda luxury. Great review as always!!!
Can’t wait to see the drives of these. After I get more use out of my 2022 CX5 Signature I’m thinking of maybe a CX70 Turbo S. Hope these new powertrains hold up.
I would have liked to see the second row seats be able to move back considering all that extra room. But that would have increased the cost cuz they would had to do some engineering in that second row to provide that functionality
Wish the back seat was 40/20/40 split. I have found that extraordinarily useful for transporting materials while still allowing access to 2 seats in the back.
The Mazda dial is so much better to use than a touchscreen. I had a Mazda3 hatch for a few years. When I switch to my wife’s CRV I am amazed by how much more difficult it is to use while driving. Perhaps the screen isn’t the most responsive but I find it hard to touch the right part of the screen when driving and the road is even slightly bumpy. I live in MI, they are always bumpy. Oh, and fingerprints on the screen.
I can get 19mpg around town in my long paid for 08 MDX so I’ll keep it. I love what Mazda is doing with their designs but corporate greed everywhere is out of hand.
I don't normally go for "BROWWNN" (shout out to Clarkson, Hammond, & May) but I really like this color combo/design. Very handsome look. Also, I think every manufacturer that offers a fully digital dash should offer the option for people to select a traditional gauge display (perhaps even a retro gauge display from past famous models of the brand, similar to what Ford did with the new Mustang) I don't mind a screen for a dash, but I want it to still look like regular gauges.
It was annoying that you could not get a top-trim CX-90 with a rear bench, and then the CX-70 arrives and that makes sense. Not everyone needs a third row of seats, but does appreciate the additional storage space. All that said, rear seats that slide forward and backward would have helped. I'm looking at this versus a Jeep GC L, for example - comparisons for me are against the bigger X7, GLS, etc which makes the Mazda even more cost effective.
Only getting 25mpg being a plug in hybrid is way too low. I usually don't agree that phev is the worst of gas and electric but this makes the case. Does it even save you money vs the cx90?
People commenting here without personally checking the vehicle, all the best ! go out, take a test drive and open the door and close it you will see.. where Mazda lagging no where close to luxury cars please observe and decide ! all the best
I would prefer that Mazda would have kept the 40/20/40 rear seat design like in the CX-5 and the BMW. Also, they should have created more design differences between it and the CX-90, like making it a little shorter and maybe squaring off the rear end and making the rear glass more upright, IMO. Thanks for your reviews.
I looked at a CX70, its not in the X5 league which I almost bought, and not in the league of a RX either.. The CX has a lot more plastic inside.. and the X5 which I like a lot, is far superior in almost every way. The X5 is way faster, handles better, many more options available.. but also much more $$$... The RX is far nicer on the road, very quiet, and has a much more luxury feel, better sound system, but again also more $$.... the RX350 models are gutless... The RX500h is quick, but not as quick as the BMW......... The CX is a little larger inside than the RX. I am looking at one and considering as my wife wants to trader her 2020 Rav 4 limited hybrid... The CX70 is a lot nicer than my wifes Rav 4, and larger... I will say that. I think its decent value for the $$
As an enthusiast, i prefer SUVs that are boxy and rugged like the LandCruiser and with the exception of the Rav4 that somehow manages to pull off the compromise, i believe because of Toyota's reputation for reliability. All these other SUVs are becoming to stylish and soft.
This is probably the longest length 2 row SUV, which is way too long for just 2 row, Mazda didn’t even bother to shorten the length, what a lazy effort. Honda passport with 189.1 inches length still manage to have more cargo space than CX70 with 200.8 inches. Good luck to park this car in your garage.
@@alexmassengale433 True, in the cubic foot sense, since the CR-V has more up/down space in the rear. The depth of the cargo load floor on the CX-70 far surpasses the CR-V though, and that's what most people care about.

I don’t understand why they just remade a CX-90 with less seats (beyond capitalizing on the same platform). I have the first CX5 (2013) and I have been waiting for a mid-size. So with the now confusing naming conventions, they used to have CX3, CX5, CX7, CX9… then once they release the CX90 and then the CX-50, I discovered the naming protocols didn’t adhere to anything specific. So the CX-50 I expected to be an off-road CX5… it kind of is, but it’s smaller than desired. Then the CX-90 is basically just a fancier CX9. The CX-70 I expected to be in between CX-50 and CX-90… Nope. Just CX-90 with less seats, more expensive trim and different engine options (PHEV or electric assist). I may still go for a CX-70, but I am still a bit annoyed it’s not outdoor focused and not in between sizes. Still a fan of Mazda engineering, but Why of why aren’t they making a CX-70 that’s a bigger version of the CX-50 or at last an actual mid-size? Missing some opportunities IMHO.
i just wish they wud have shorten the cargo space lil bit and make more leg room on the 2nd row. i cant wrap my heads as to why they have a such a short leg room for such a big suv. otherwise this is a perfect suv.
The screen is way too far for a comfortable touch screen experience. I actually think using the rotary dial is a much more ergonomic experience. (In the Mazda cars - other cars a touch screen makes sense)
Actually, I see folks cross-shopping those models. The Mazda offers a much lower price for many of the same features. the difference is the length. That could be an issue.
Unacceptable! Wtf is the point of having another CX-9? It should have been smaller. That'll help with fuel efficiency. I wish they made it more like the size comparable to a BMW X3

Better comparison is between this and the Nissan Pathfinder, QX60, and Toyota Highlander.
I'd probably just buy the CX-90 PHEV.
Dude, talk slower. Good reviews, but hard to follow and feels a bit rushed. Other than that, great detail and model comparison.
People will cross shop this with Lexus TX hybrid Max, Hyundai Santa Fe, the Cherokee 4xe and the Acura ZDX. And the Toyota Grand Highlander.
The screen is way too far for a comfortable touch screen experience. I actually think using the rotary dial is a much more ergonomic experience. (In the Mazda cars - other cars a touch screen makes sense)
Mazda really be making 3 ton, two row vehicles
Actually, I see folks cross-shopping those models. The Mazda offers a much lower price for many of the same features. the difference is the length. That could be an issue.
Mazda knew what they were doing, I’m ordering one of these, I have no use for a third row.
The CX-60 makes so much more sense than this, and would actually fit in my garage. This chungus will not.
Unacceptable! Wtf is the point of having another CX-9? It should have been smaller. That'll help with fuel efficiency. I wish they made it more like the size comparable to a BMW X3
