    I just threw away a dull drill bit today. I was scared my house was about to burn down when I was drilling through the garage ceiling into a joist when I started to smell smoke created from the dull bit. Hmmm. Great video. Love the humor. I feel like I need more Grissom in my life.

    Well done Jason. I really enjoyed the whole video. The content was brilliant. But, from a yt stand point. The thumbnail was seriously clever, while being simple yet eye-catching. The filming and editing was on point and the whole video was well paced. Im no expert but i know me, i have a habit of getting twitchy around 7 mins into watching anything, very adhd in my viewing. But for all the reasons above i was hooked all the way through. Just one persons view but i hope it shows in the metrics. Loved it.

    • @JasonGrissom
      @JasonGrissom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Mark! Thanks for watching. I was really proud of the thumbnail. I was worried it may be a bit too simple (I have a variation in the pocket that may help if it is) but so far it seems to be doing well. I actually really enjoy photography but rarely get to showcase it in a thumbnail so when this visual came into my mind I knew exactly how I needed to make the video to compliment it. Anyways. I could ramble on about that forever. 😂 But I appreciate your continued support so much. Honestly. Thank you so much. 🙏

    Great project Jason. I was recently asked to make one, so I was hoping to see more of the build.
    I would contend that buying an inferior drill bit set is a necessity, insofar as it will let you know what size bits you frequently use, then pay the premium for indovidual bits.
    I have dozens of 1/8" bits for pilot holes, and maybe 5-6 slightly undersized bits (15/64, 23/32, 7/16, etc) as my boring bits. Nonstandard sizes allow for tighting fits, and then I dont have a significant imvestment in items i never use.
    I will say this, you can never have enough FastCaps. Pretty sure i have 4 lefty/righty, a Yellow metric only, and one of those Black flimsy tapes. I think my FastCap collection is becoming more of an addiction

    • @JasonGrissom
      @JasonGrissom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Jered! Yeah my plan was to show a lot of the build (I filmed a lot more) but in the edit I couldn't get the pacing right. I think i'll definitely try this style of a video again and have an idea of how to incorporate the "tool talk" and build a lot better.
      As far as your suggestion about drill bits thats actually a great idea. You obviously don't want to be buying a whole kit everytime your 1/8" bit burns out. I guess really what i'd steer people away from is a set of "general purpose" drill bits. At least in terms of working with wood.

    I've used and like the FastCap tape measures a lot. I stumbled across the Komelon self-locking tape and that is now my first choice. Not because of any of the fancy features of the FastCap, but simply because it comes out locked. You only push the button to retract. Such a simple difference, but MUCH handier to use. No pressing to lock, then unlock to pull out more, then lock again. Who uses a tape measure and doesn't want it to stay put?

    • @JasonGrissom
      @JasonGrissom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it would be cool to see FastCap implement that feature. Even at the cost of a buck or 2. My 25ft craftsman tape has that and I love it. Especially when I'm marking multiple points along the tape measure at a time. Thanks for sharing another option for people though!

    A bit of an essay about those pencils - if you dont work in an enviroment where often climb ladders or crawl somewhere, the expensive ones have no benefit. Cheaper pencil might have small and weak pocket clips and they will break if you catch on something, more robust clips like the one on Pica hold fine. Most annoying thing about pica is having to pull out the sheath to sharpen it, most other brand have sharpeners either on the sheath near the clip (meaning you can easily sharpen with one hand)or it screws into the top of the pencil. For my money, the best of the best is Hultafors, but for a shop enviroment a cheapo will do just fine (especially for people like me who use multiple of them for different colors).

    • @JasonGrissom
      @JasonGrissom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great insight Petr! Thanks for pointing out the weak clip bit for the cheaper ones thats something that always stirred me away from them but you're not wrong. Having the strong clip can be a pain when you need to pull it out to sharpen. I'll have to check out the brand you mentioned. Thanks again for sharing. 🙏 Hope it helps others too!

    • @gnshp8167
      @gnshp8167 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I 100% agree with you there. These type of mechanical pencils (Pica/Hultafors, etc.) are very good for construction sites imo. but in a shop a "real" mechanical pencil is way better. If you got a 0.9mm pencil and good leads you never have to sharpen them and better leads won't break even if you use them on rougher stuff. Pica has now a "Fine Dry" which uses a 0.9mm lead but the tabs on the sheath always broke on mine which makes them useless.

    • @JasonGrissom
      @JasonGrissom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmm...looks like i'm going to have to look into this. At least for marking cut lines. I still really like the shading benefits and marking for sanding with the pica dry. But yeah. Maybe I should look into these options for general marking. 🤷‍♂️

      @@johntbiv Can confirm! What a crazy hack! TikTok would LOVE that one. I mean heck for 8 bucks its not even that crazy expensive of an eraser. 😂 I'm 100% going to remember that especially since the pica doesn't have an eraser. And thanks for the well wishes John. Much appreciated. This video was a "knocking off the dust" of sorts. Just gotta keep up the momentum! 💪

      I have the Pica pencil... To me, it has the best lead, hard to break, and I like the fact that I can change the color of the lead when I sam working with a real dark wood so I can see my lines that I draw.. @@JasonGrissom

    • @JasonGrissom
      @JasonGrissom  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Nice! Yeah I love mine. I'd like to pick up the Pica Fine Dry for marking more precise marks and use the original dry for shading cut outs and what not. I also saw they just came out with a scriber bit for the dry for metal marking and what not. Wouldn't mind getting one of those too. By the end of it i'll have a couple hundred bucks in pencils. 😂
