👍son, gave yr dad the more comfortable bed, this time you bring your dad (i remember you brought yr mum on 1 luxury train) you make them so happy to have a son who cares for them. The food on the train n restaurants so creative decorated n yummy. The building arch is very beautiful, scenery is awesome. Thank you, i enjoy watching this video. Awesome humour too 👏👏👏
some tips for helping you go. 1st Start a separate savings account that you deposit money into each month. It doesnt have to be a lot bit something. You can use that money for transportation, food and souvenirs while there. 2nd. If you can get a credit card that earns you better travel rewards do that. That way your everyday purchases can help offset the cost of travel to Japan as usually that's the most expensive part!
Wonderful wonderful, greetings from New York. Love your videos. It’s nice you took your dad this time . My whole family watching your awesome videos , can’t wait for another one . ❤😊

The lounge coach is impressive. But the sleeping accommodations appear rather old and the cost is astronomical!!! For $1800 you could travel in Amtrak's most expensive accommodation across the entire U S. Or, take the Canadian across Canada: 4 nights and 4 days!! Of course, your trip included tours.
Where are you seeing amtrak tickets for $1800 for two people? That's $900 a person. Super cheap compared to amtrak from what I saw when I decided I was going to ride the train across country after watching these videos 😂. I also think even with the retro it's still far superior to what the US has to offer.
Yeah sorry, I just looked on the ViaRail website and for a sleeper cabin its 10K$ to go from Toronto to Vancouver. Your comment is just a blatant lie. For 514$ its just a regular seat in economy class like a normal train.
Haah, this brings back memories of my travels to Japan... you really capture the atmosphere. I loved the shots of the departure in the evening light. Thanks for sharing!
Yay! Another video! I was waiting! I had no internet for a few days and now my service is restored and tonight I get to enjoy a train ride w Solo! Please keep up the great work!
Good Morning SoloSoloSan. So glad to see another entry in your fabulous travel journal. I wish we could have seen your dad, I am sure he is handsome and distinguished. The Cassiopeia was a sleeper train that ran 1,200 kilometers between Tokyo's Ueno Station and Sapporo Station through the Seikan Undersea Tunnel. In March 2016, with the opening of the Hokkaido Shinkansen and the Seikan Undersea Tunnel becoming exclusively for the Shinkansen, Cassiopeia ceased regular service. Seven years have passed since then. Unfortunately, the equipment of the train seems outdated.
I must agree. There are now so many interesting train experiences in Japan available, I just did two novelty trains in Kyushu in 2023, such cool train design and amazing food. And for this money I think a very old-looking train with just one very boring-looking Kaiseki meal is just not a competitive offer. Nowadays people expect regional food, a special experience onboard and at least more than some metal tables and one plug socket. But it could be worth it for senior citizens who dont care as much.
I really miss this train. I had a chance to ride it from Tokyo to Sapporo a couple of years before it was stopped. It was so enjoyable. I am so glad to see they are reviving it in a different format.
The Tempra shrimp looked delicious that is one of my favorite foods. I always wanted to ride on a train but never got the opportunity. I enjoy your videos so much it is nice to see how other countries do things. I live in the US and could never afford to travel so I always enjoy seeing where you go it looks like a nice way to spend some free time. Thanks so much for making the videos of your travels.
I really really enjoyed this video. Getting to see your adventures on not only the train but the beautiful temple and everything afterwards was so wonderful. Keep up the great work!
Cool trip. Your dad's filming was good, guess he's been watching and learning from the pro(you). In time you'll treasure trips you drag your parents on. Both of mine are gone now, my mother when I was 24(my birthday no less) and my dad when I was 40(2021). Food looked fun and beautiful...but someone would have had to pry me outta the onsen. Thank you for always bringing us freeloaders on trips. This broke girl appreciates it :)

It looks old because it's retro. It's a nostalgic trip back to the era of "real" sleeper services, and Cassiopeia was one of the last services.
