I would randomly search for something like this for years but never found anything in-depth. I'm fresh off a fantastic concert at Yankee Stadium Celebrating Hip Hops 50th Birthday so I'm just going through the timeline. How Ironic the MPC was Released the same year thats considered the start of hip hops GOLDEN ERA. Thank you for this Fam

I owned a Reel 2 Reel by Akai back-n-the-day, it was a solid unit! Great job on the history my brother; I remember it well, it was tough to take Akai seriously at first, with them being an okay home entertainment company; when Roland started making pro gear they changed their name to Roland from Ace Tone to avoid any stigma, that was a good business strategy, and it worked well. I'm late to the party; but better late than never, the X was the serious motivation for me; now I'm part of the family for life!

Good info. 1988 is the first time I used a Roger Linn Akai MPC 60 is at Funky Slice Studios in Brooklyn, NY, They also had a Akai MG 1212 I record on.

This is my first time coming across your channel; I've subscribed and decided to watch the whole playlist. I'm simply elated to be learning some music history from an OG. You my new uncle. lol

Gotta say I really dug this. It’s one thing for folks to just read off some specs for a piece a gear, however you bring much more to the table. I appreciate not only the tech info about the gear but also these stories and experiences of yours. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series and all the further evolution of your channel. 🙌🏽

The Akai X7000 sampling keyboard was dope too - lower-fidelity samples, sounded like an SP-1200; great for late-80s/early-90s rap tracks.

5000 is not bad it’s the test of time; those are products I don’t mind paying for Akai should take notes… all hardware companies should take notice move the needle forward like they did back in the 80s…. The engineering was so on point we are stuck in trying to re-create it. Great content 👍

Great video, Doc. Thank you. I would like to own a few of these older devices, but not being very techy, I am afraid of getting into these older machines, especially if they break down. Are there still available parts; I imagine it would be quite expensive to have professionally repaired, etc,
