Avoid the nice part of town. They always tip horrible best tips come from poor people. Got a 50 dollar tip from a broken down trailer and got a 2 dollar tip on a 8 mile trip to a half million dollar house. This is pretty common.

My experience driving for Domino's is similar. Sure there's rich people who'll give 15 or 20 dollar tips , but a lot of times it's 2 or 3 dollars. Trailers often surprise me. Best tips were at a military base , at least for consistent tips and getting higher ones. I even managed to sell the lady guarding the gate some pizzas and then got to deliver them to her on the next run :D

Doordash actually had a Walmart order here locally today going for $6.40 going to a Daycare with 219 items!!! Yes, 219 items!!! Only 1.5 miles away but the ONLY reason I took it when they resent it twice was because Spark was slow and I know the daycare owner and they look after over 100+ children daily and she always tips between $15 and $20, plus I view it as a helping the community/giving back to the community exception to the rule. Took over 1/2 hour to deliver inside to their kitchen but it helps the owner, the employees and the kids.

Number 4 is a big one for me. DoorDash knows what they’re doing. Take Chick fil a. They start serving lunch at 10:30am. But if you go in the Chick fil a app and try and order lunch items before 10:30, you can’t. They’re locked. So they go through the DoorDash app, which lets them order lunch before 10:30am. I’ve gotten lunch orders at 9:50am before. DoorDash knows when chick fil a starts lunch service, so they do this nonsense on purpose. And also, I’ve been on with support. They WILL NOT cancel the order for you. They will make you cancel it yourself and take the hit on your completion rate, or you can choose to wait until lunch is served for no additional pay. Which is bullshit. Again, they know what they’re doing and they do it on purpose. As does Uber Eats. Should be illegal.

My rule I’ve come up with. Example: Pickup by 8:00 time… I arrive at 7:58, if order isn’t ready at 8:05 I’m out. So usually it’s 5min, but I still take things in consideration waiting that long. Example if it’s been 5 min past pickup by time, and I seen employees of the restaurant talking I’m out. If the restaurant employees are moving hustling I’ll give them a few extra min. Wait no longer then 5 min. Time is money for us, and I’ve canceled orders only to receive a better payout and less mileage, immediately after hitting cancel.

Easiest rule to ever follow is 5 minute rule. I wait 5 minutes if my order isn't ready I leave. No need to ask people anything none of that mess. Just leave. You aren't getting your order in a timely manner for you to make money. Doordash's agreement is to have the food ready before we arrive. If I do end up finishing the delivery I report the restaurant. I then go to google and leave a 1 star review. I know this sounds like a lot but it does work. Delivery makes up 25% of most restaurants business. When corporate or the owner finds out their employees are messing up their google rating they will take action. I also speak to the manager about pick up times. Most do not even know they control the pick up times or how to change it. I have turned around many restaurants in my area by doing this.

I am going to take your advice and do something about it. It really ruins my day because my area is big and lots of orders are 10 to 20 minutes away. So one order for an HOUR is $9 not to mention gas is $5 a gallon. So 9 - $4.00 to $5 is NOT cutting it. DD is really getting on my last nerve with the pay. Such a great point..a slow restaurant is "a culture and environment that restaurant allows." Chances are they're not having a bad day or just a little busy right now. Nothing worse than clicking on a $4 trip and then finding out it is two deliveries and no tips. Do not take any minimum orders during the dinner rush, that is prime time and you want to work for people who appreciate your effort. Treat those people well.

I do pizza delivery at a shop that's partnered with Door Dash. Customers can order through DD but we can also outsource our own deliveries to DD. It's meant to help with a rush when understaffed but we mostly use DD as a human shield. I've got a list of all the customers that don't tip or are just opportunity costs, and I send these to DD. Be wary of accepting orders from any place that already has a dedicated delivery service.

My take: Don't ever expect a hidden tip on anything less than $6.00
(your market may vary.) If you think there may be a cash tip, keep in mind these are extremely rare.
Think twice about a good order going to the boonies (where there are no restaurants). If you're in the middle of your shift, keep in mind you will have dead miles (when you're not getting orders) most of the way back to civilization.

I usually do cash tips. On some occasions I will tip later through the app. I've had my food delivered cold or items were missing. Tips are based on quality of service, not because you are performing the service. If you're in it for the tips, you're in the wrong industry. Before you balk, I am in an industry where tips are appreciated, but not necessary. I don't do it for the pay.

    • @gearsofwar3xXx
      @gearsofwar3xXx ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@deebroussard6072 1. When food is cold, unless the driver stopped somewhere other than another delivery on the same platform, its not their fault. Know how many restaurants I've seen place the finished order on a shelf with no heat? Lots of times.
      2. Missing items are always the restaurants fault unless the driver forgot a bag, which is rare because they are supposed to be all together.
      3. Tips are a bid for service. You are making an offer to a independent contractor (not an employee) to deliver your food using their gas and wear on their car, and their time. If you are having issues with your experience, I strongly suggest you stop using the platform. The drivers are performing a service for you. No worries, I'll wait for the inevitable "if you don't like your pay, get a different job" argument. No tip orders sit. And sit. And sit longer. Your choice.

The drink was missing. "Missing items are on the restaurant", nah, it's also on you to double check the order receipt and make sure you have all the items before leaving for delivery. If you show up, and don't have my shit, and say "Not my fault" I say, "It's okay, I get no drink, you get no tip." If tips are a "bid for service", then y'all need to come back to reality and realize your service isn't worth the $10 tip you're demanding on a $15 order, especially when you give $2 worth of effort.
Instead of demanding the customer subsidize your paycheck, how about you demand that your EMPLOYER pays you fairly for your time and fuel expenses? No way that I'm ordering a $10 meal from Wendy's, only to end up paying $30 with DoorDashes fees, and then you show up and expect a $10 tip.

That's exactly what happens in Royal Palm Beach, FL. My lowest offer ever was 33 cents a mile for 14 miles in RPB. Customers have been taught what it costs to deliver their food, & in RPB it is far less than $1 for paid miles. On a shift in that market, I will be offered 3-5 50 cents a paid mile trips. They make those offers because a lot of someone's are accepting them. I rarely work that market, but sometimes thats where i happen to be to start my day. The RPB market also includes Wellington, which is 7 & 8 figure homes. So occasionally, a $2 mile offer comes in. But it's just unbelievable that DD can employ workers who are not employees for $5 hour. This is why labor exploitation laws are a necessity, because without them, every American would be an independent contractor earning $5 a day.

As you probably already know that the best drop offs are ground level private homes duplexes and small apartments. It amazes me how much more effort and risk there is between the different drop off scenarios verses anything you’d be forced to endure at the restaurant.

I agree with limiting your delivery distance to at least $1/mile not to mention the time it might take.
I just got an order yesterday that was 7miles (8mins) to pick up, then after pick up 17miles (18mins) to deliver, not to mention at least 17 miles back (20mins), and only getting $9.50.
    ($5.5 base pay and a $4 tip)here in Texas.
I realize the mistake I made by taking this order because from the time I accepted the offer to the order delivered was over 45 mins, took 20mins to get back to the area during lunch time and got no orders for additional 20mins. All of that for $5.5 base pay. In short 1hr 20mins for $5.50!

Think of it this way. The Federal mileage reimbursement rate is something like $ 0.55 per mile. If you work for any corporation and use your car for their business, they are supposed to reimburse you for about that. The Federal gov seems to think that is a fair rate that should cover gas, insurance, and maintenance on your car. So if you are averaging about $16/hour dashing. If you subtract out that $.055/ mile, you're only making about $10/hour. This is pathetic. Who can survive on $10/hour in this economy? What about health insurance? What about saving money for retirement? What about just paying the freakin' electric bill? What about the risks you take by being on the road all day? It just doesn't pencil out! So, as a self-employed independent contractor, you have to ask yourself, is this good (profitable) for my business??

A couple good tips and a lot of BS here.
    1. If you're getting $7 to drive 2.5 miles, it doesn't matter if there's 2 items other 12. It's the same amount of work (with the exception of grocery orders) and the same amount of gas. Who cares if the bag has a burger and fries or 8 burgers and fries. It's still on order for x miles.
    2. While not taking upside down orders is a good idea in general. They definitely have their place. Let's says I take a high paying order that takes you way out of my area. Take an upside down order if it gets you back where you want to be. You can either drive 8 miles to get back to where you want to be for free. Or you can drive 8 miles to get back to where you want to be and make $5. Don't let your pride get in the way of common sense. If you're gonna bend over, you might as well pick something up.

I can be getting close to home and they want to send me to the other side of town. Stacking orders on your last order can be the worst. Make sure you schedule a shift to end 30 minutes before you need to end shift or be somewhere because they will give you that slow restaurant with the long drive as your last order. Had one again tonight. Thank God for that stacked order. Even though it said $6 and .8 miles added to the route, it paid well over $10 after waiting for it.
