  • After the project to slice up 2-inch titanium rod, we identified a weakness of the system: the high tool pressures were rotating the tool post despite being tightened down. We came up with an expedient fix in Part 1. In Part 2, we spend more time to do it better. There is one catch... do it with tools and materials presently in the shop.
We employed a Centurion boring head, and needed to make a bushing to marry it to a MariTool boring bar.
In this Part, that job gets done, and we figure out the recipe for boring the holes. Spoilers: we were magnificently successful. This is Part 3 of 3.

Toolpost: Dorian V35tc. It is equivalent in size to an Aloris CXA

Let’s see some more titanium parting cuts to prove out the fix works 😉

      Highly logical. I might. 🤔

Channel locks grip in one direction and will not grip in the other direction. Just a tip... Awesome series of videos!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

You won’t be the first to point out that I really need to get a grip. 😐🫡

Sharp, lapped inserts or brazed carbide tools are awesome for fine cuts and pulling off a nice chip with low tool pressure. I learned that from Robin. Renzetti, (Go figure eh?) How come you never told me I could mount my Mini-Cool to the back of the vice⁉😁🤣
I wonder if the act of removing and reinserting the boring head influenced the location of the point of the boring insert a few tenths one way or the other and the second hole bored a different dia? Or was it tool wear and pressure?

Good question!! It's no Moore Jig Borer.

Nice work! I watched Rob Renzetti's video on making a solid tool post to address the same issue and will probably do that. My tool post will rotate on the compound as there is no index nor T-slot. Until I make the new one, a butcher paper washer (not a typo) prevents the tool post from slipping on the compound of my lathe for the tool pressures I use. Thanks! I played bass for Butcher Paper back in the 80's. 🫡

LMAO i will be a bit snarky right now, but the WHOLE IDEA OF PRECISION STONES is that once you stone your surface, you don't have to smear it with your hand afterwards. We have to get rid of our habits from time to time :D
