    The man in the black jacket, David Pascal has his own style that he came up with when he studied smallsword treatises from the 17th and 18th century for years. He mixed them together and got rid of what he thought seem impractical to him. I say that because he told it. You will not find his specific style in any treatise. He has many years of experience in foil fencing as well in rapier fencing, so it's kinda impossible to fence like him. He is 3-4 days per week in the salle and trains hard.

    Wow, just wow, the i don't know much about fencing, but this is beautiful, the way the man in black transitions between stances, rocks his body in and out of thrusting distance and slides to disguise his footwork is spectacular.

    A marvelous display of elegant swordmanship. I very much enjoy that these fencers use cautious and deliberate attacks, rather than simply lunging down the line. They treat the swordplay like you would real swords 👍

    Smallsword fencing is fascinating. It looks like someone struggling to use chopsticks and then suddenly someone's dead.

    Incredible. The man with the full black suit is simply brilliant, probarbly a master of the smallword. The man of the leather jacket is also very experienced. Only one question: Is this french or italian smallsword? It´s beacuse the smallsword fencing here at Spain is very different, more like destreza.

      Victor López Márquez the man in black is David Pascal from A Coruña in Spain. Is a good master in smallsword of “Academia da Espada”.

    I notice that the fencer in black doesn't have his off hand at his ear as the smallsword manuals typically advise for the purpose of balance. Is there a reason he and a few of the others keep their off hand at their side as opposed to over their shoulder?

    • @stephenpajer3920
      @stephenpajer3920 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      in smallsword fencing the left hand ist - opposed to modern fencing - still used sometimes to deflect or parry the opponent's blade. Several manuals show how the left hand is used to block a line or secure the blade. Since the smallsword is a deadly weapon but it's wounds seldom kill or incapacitate instantly, you have to expect the opponent to deliver a thrust even after he is wounded. So the left hand often keeps you safe after you hit the opponent or is used to keep open a line to thrust a riposte after you have parried.

    Hmm, you can see on some shots that someone is filming that cloak and dagger sparring on the background, wonder if that's been posted anywhere.
    Also man, the legwork of the man in black is quite something.

    In the beginning the man in black reached around his back to stab the opponent. Wow.
    Now THAT'S fencing.
    Also... I'm not a classical music fan, but the instrumental in the background is wonderful. and very fitting.
