-------------- Places visited on this tour:
Pushkar is one of the oldest cities in India.
A Rajasthan without Strongholds, reinforced by the world's only Brahma Temple and mystical baths in the sacred lake. A place to visit and fall in love with.
On the other hand, due to its super relaxed atmosphere and cult of happiness, the city attracts hippies, many of whom go to meet spiritual gurus or taste the “special” lassis, bhang lassi, made with an unorthodox herb.
Pushkar is one of the most important cities in Hinduism and receives thousands of faithful every year. Like other holy cities in the country, such as Rishikesh and Varanasi, the consumption of alcoholic beverages, meat of any kind and even eggs is prohibited here. To approach the sacred lake, step on the floor of the ghaats, it is necessary to take off your shoes, clothes cannot be above the knees or have short sleeves.
Ghaats are steps leading down to a river or lake, used for religious ceremonies.
According to legends, the God Brahma, God of the Hindu religion, considered the creator of the universe, dropped a lotus flower on the ground, leading to the creation of the city. He then decided to name the place after the flower and hence the name Pushkar.
In Sanskrit, Pushkar means blue lotus flower.
Hindus consider a journey to Pushkar to be the final pilgrimage that must be undertaken in order to attain salvation.
    Pushkar Lake
Life in Pushkar revolves around the holy lake.
According to Hindu scriptures, the holy Pushkar Lake is described as 'Tirtha Raj', the king of all pilgrimage places that allow people to enter the water. No pilgrimage is considered complete without a dip in the holy Pushkar Lake. Semi-circular in shape and about 8 to 10 meters deep, Pushkar Lake is surrounded by 52 bathing ghats and over 400 temples and is truly a magnificent sight to behold.
For us tourists, it is very interesting to observe the dynamics and ceremonies that take place in these ghaats, with a coming and going of holy men, faithful, vendors and sadhus (Hindu monks).
    Brahma Temple
Pushkar is full of temples: small temples, big ones, of all colors and shapes dedicated to different gods. The most important of these temples, and one of the reasons why the city receives so many pilgrims, is the temple dedicated to the God Brahma, the only one in the world following the will of God himself. To enter the temple, you must take off your shoes.
Built in marble and decorated with silver coins, this temple can be identified by its red pinnacle and the image of a swan (considered sacred to Lord Brahma). The chaturmukhi (four-faced) idol of Lord Brahma is housed in the inner sanctum. A marble statue of the sun god stands guard in the temple. Interestingly, while all the gods are shown barefoot, Surya is shown wearing ancient warrior boots.
    Pushkar Bazars
Pushkar's little shops tempt even the least consumerist person in the world. It's all very colorful, cheerful, with Rajasthani clothing, silver jewelry, religious items, incense, hundreds of hemp products and decorative objects. Also, they were the cheapest stores I found on the trip.
The market is very lively and offers an authentic Indian shopping experience.
And if you're looking for something more peaceful, there are plenty of yoga and meditation retreats in Pushkar. The city is known for its peaceful and spiritual atmosphere, and many tourists come here to disconnect from the outside world and connect with themselves.
