-------------- Places visited on this tour:
Today, I am going to share with you my visit to the city of Jodhpur, one of the most fascinating cities in India.
Jodhpur is also known as the Blue City because of the blue houses that dot the streets and alleys of the city.
And why are the houses painted blue?
Termites or termites were known to destroy walls and structures made of lime mix. Copper sulfate is effective at repelling insects and under certain conditions it turns blue. By painting the houses with a mixture of lime and copper sulphate, they acquire their famous uniform blue color and are protected.
    FORT MEHRANGARH
In 1459, Rao Jodha started building this fort and chose a strategic location for the new fort: an isolated hill that stands 125 meters above the Jodhpur skyline and provides good natural defenses. The fort was named Mehrangarh, which means 'sun fort'.
This historic fort is one of the most famous in India and is steeped in history and legend.
With more than five hundred meters in length, the fort's wall is 21 meters wide and in some places it is 37 meters high.
The most fascinating aspects of Mehrangarh Fort are its architecture and grandeur. The buildings inside the fort were built at different times, resulting in a mixture of architectural styles. Some notable buildings include Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Phool Mahal.
The Moti Mahal, as the name suggests, is the Pearl Hall where royal families held their audiences. The hall is known for having glass windows and five alcoves that allowed queens to listen to proceedings taking place at Sringar Chowki, the royal throne of Jodhpur.
The Sheesh Mahal is a magnificent piece of architecture adorned with walls of mirrors that stretch across the ceilings and floors. It is superimposed by the mirror work of religious figures painted in plaster.
The Phool Mahal or Flower Hall is the most exorbitant of all the halls in the palace. This beautiful chamber is said to be the pleasure dome for the maharajahs. The gold used to build the Mahal came from Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
    JASWANT THADA
Located just 1 km from Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada is a white marble mausoleum built in honor of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, who ruled Jodhpur in the 19th century and is remembered as a just and benevolent ruler who was loved by his people.
The mausoleum has a series of intricate domes, hand-carved by local artisans. There is also an artificial lake next to the monument which reflects the beauty of Jaswant Thada.
    UMAID BHAWAN PALACE
Umaid Bhawan Palace was built by Maharaja Umaid Singh in 1929 to combat the famine that hit the state at the time. It was also known as Chittar Palace while it was built thanks to the use of stones quarried from Chittar Hill. Constructed of sandstone and marble, the palace's architecture is described as a blend of Indo-Saracen, Classical Revival and Western Art Deco styles. It is recognized as one of the largest private homes in the world and also one of the most spectacular buildings. It is the only palace built in the 20th century.
    TOORJI KA JHALRA
A beautiful example of this architecture so present in Indian tradition, the stepwells. Lost but in the center of the city, and without any indications in tourist guides, the stepwell continues to be part of the urban life of Jodhpur and is certainly a good place to stop for a while and feel the city that pulsates around you.
Built in 1740, Toorji Ka Jhalra, commonly called the stepwell of Jodhpur, is a complex stepwell design, one of the few remaining structures depicting the traditional water management systems of Jodhpur.
    SADAR BAZAR and GHANTA GHAR
The Ghanta Ghar, also known as the clock tower of Rajasthan, is situated in one of the busiest areas of Jodhpur, Sadar Bazaar. It was built by Shri Sardar Singh Ji of Jodhpur, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
The Clock came from London and is believed to have been purchased from the company that made the Clock Tower in London. The surrounding area has slowly become one of the busiest areas in the city. Several shops sprung up and a market, the Sardar Bazaar, was created. It was named after the Maharajah and has been the delight of buyers ever since.
But what really makes Sardar's Bazaar so special are the people. Local vendors are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and are always happy to help you find what you need. They also love to negotiate prices, so don't hesitate to haggle!
