I love it how this video's takeaway is how The Mending of Dominaria is severely underrated at the moment. I'm looking forward to play with it. I also love that 31:00 "Tatyova" pronunciation.
great deck, your standard land destruction ato from a year or 2 ago is still one of my favorites. but dear god I watched the replay of your knight stream earlier so it feels like i've watched you play against control 19 times in a row today
Isn't it better to have a two toughness dork for 1G (Especially in a world of Goblin Chainwhirler and Ballistas)? I feel like it's going to be pretty rare for the Drover to be a 3/3. I was thinking Naga Vitalist or Channeler Initiate or Servant...
18:05 Settle the Wreckage, opponent gets a ton of lands, untap and Armageddon seems like the obvious play but I like the manly "take it to the face" approach
You didn't even attempt the Settle because you already figured this out, you win this round Olive. I'll be back on the next video waiting for that satisfying, righteous strike the fear of god in you sized punt. #TheGoldFishProtector
I think his new editor is a little sloppy with the cuts. As someone who used to do this in school, its not a hard thing to fix because it just means a few extra minutes paying attention to the audio when editing.
24:38 Taking Lyra was the play. Lyra has first strike, which is absolutely brutal against Rat Colony. Since First Strike takes place before normal damage, she can eat Rats all day, plus when she first strikes a rat she weakens all the other rats before they fight your other creatures. Also, lifelink is nice.
Exploring the Carnage Tyrant into the graveyard with jadelight ranger in game 1 vs. aetherflux was a really strange choice also. You were about to get back two untapped lands from mending next turn, which would allow you to play it, your single copy.
Me too, but honestly, that version seemed not that great :/ Opp was splashing white but couldn't get himself rid of Ixalan's Binding in both games. Maybe a UW version with Tetsuko would be better.
In Arena i think Orzhov Rat Colony is a think because the only thing stopping it is Binding but white has enchant removal with its own Binding, and Lost Legacy not being available in arena its the only card to hose down Rat Colony, with Banners and Radiants to buff rats along with Monument you can make rats very viable.
What if you just focus on GW "Mending of Thran"? It could be easier on the mana base, you still get your big threats...primary reason you're playing blue, negates in the board and a not necessary Nezehal. It would fix a lot of mana issues early game and free up some slots to streamline the deck...thoughts?
obesechicken13 By that logic Armageddon was just two mana cheaper but was still the lynchpin of dozens of tournament-winning decks, in a format with Moxen. Obviously having a deck built to synergize, as well as being able to control the effect, has a bigger impact then you're accounting for. I'm not saying it's a great card, but in this Standard wins are expensive enough that setting them back to zero mana is worth consideration.
I wasn't around when armageddon was around but I imagine like you said moxen (maybe borderpost) were key to breaking the symmetry. Something you can't really do in standard as well.
MTGGoldfish the trigger for thran only goes off after you draw. You have the untap step before upkeep, you heroic intervention on upkeep and then naturalize the thran on upkeep. Get your draw step but no more thran so neither will get back lands.
In the artifact/combo deck, if you'd have played fall off the tran with meandering on 2 counters you'd have definitely won, way more land then the opponent and a loooot of cards from tatyova, or am I missing something?
The audio editing for this seemed pretty subpar, I saw on twitter that you got somebody to help you with editing and it's significantly worse than usual so thought I'd mention it. Thanks for the awesome content as always though
That was awesome and makes me want to build a BW or esper artifact midrange deck with Fall/Scriptures and a bunch of beat down artifacts/Herald of Anguish. I think the trick to scriptures is that it actually needs a bunch of beatdown artifacts and just using fall/scriptures as inevitability.
I'm playing a really spicy version of Armageddons in naya, it allows you to do stuff like struggle to survive, and sunbirds invocations and ettali, it's really spicy to cast fall of the thran off the free cast trigger, same with casting an etali off the sunbirds trigger
If you reveal a nonland card the first time Jadelight Ranger explores and leave it on top of your library, you’ll reveal the same card the second time it explores. If you don’t pretend to be surprised, you’ll hurt Jadelight Ranger’s feelings. Found this in the official rulings for Jadelight ranger from wizards of the coast
Just finishing watching the deck tech, so haven't seen the games yet, but I think Thrashing Brontodon would have been a good fit in the main deck. It can destroy opponents stuff, it can blow up fall of the thran before it gives lands back to your opponent, if needed, so it fits the combo, and it can turn on the Drovers.
Antaeus Austin I think it is similar to a deck that was played during the dominaria standard testing video of the 8th of May in the MtgBrewersSpark channel
Here's a modern against the odds. tron superfriends! 4 oath of nissa, 4 Nylea's presence, 4 vessel of nascency, 4 gaea's blessing, 4 kamahl's druidic vow, 2 chain veil, and then your favorite walkers of any color(s), 11 forest, tron set.
Mending of Dominaria was the best card in the deck. Maybe a UG deck using it and Search for Azcanta and explore creatures could be very powerful. Ramp into Tishauna or something silly.
just brewed up a jeskai version. skirk prospector to try get down turn 2 as foretold, reduce to rubble to stall turn 3/4 and fumigate for turn 5 and a fall of thran for t6 with sentinel post. game plan is after you wipe you have as foretold to keep going while there stalled
It occurs to me that one reason this deck isn't getting fast starts despite 4 Llanowar elves is that the only way you cast an elf on turn one is if you draw one of your ***three*** forests to go with that elf.
Really? I played against it a few times and felt like it was super underwhelming in limited. Granted in most cases I faced it I was ahead on board and thus it did basically nothing. It also is absolutely horrible if your opponent has an Icy Manipulator in play as they get their lands back before you can even attack and thus are still able to tap down a creature.
Others have said it, but I want to reinforce the point...I think your new editor needs to slow down and take a few extra minutes to edit your audio properly because there are A LOT of words cut off and clipped together. I used to do audio/video editing in school and I know it can be grueling and mind-numbing, but we're talking about a few seconds per cut just go to over it and make sure the audio isn't stepping over itself. Not a difficult thing to fix at all. Other than that, I'm happy to keep watching but I really hope the editor improves lest your quality decline.
But couldnt this work as an Abzan deck instead? You mentioned Scriptures wasnt your favourite, but the synergy is there. Blue dosnt add much that Black wouldnt also give imo.
why wouldn't you play the fall of the thran at 37:45? You were ahead, and they wouldn't have gotten down the karn (though, you didn't know this at the time). you were a bit behind with your lands, but you would've gotten ahead AND you had another fall in hand as a future wrath
Game 1 vs Rat Colony, taking Jadelight over Lyra off of Benefaction was a tough choice. If you take the Lyra and they have removal then you just lose, but if they don't then I think you have a very good chance to win. I feel like it might have been better to gamble on that, though, than on the small chance that Jadelight helps you find a Settle.
I think if I was to play rat colony I'd play Blue Black to protect from sweepers and to have a way to draw and refill. Not to mention umazawa to make them unblockable is an option then or Scarab God as another option.
Please do Naya Land Destruction in standard. I can upload my decklist but truthfully, its a pretty obvious decklist. You should be able to put it together. I took 4-1 2 weeks in a row at fnm. Only lost to UW Flash Control each time.
I don't think the Sagas work on Arena at the moment (you could test it, I'm not sure the order that they auto-stack in, but I know you can't choose the order).
Phyrexian scriptures probably isn't great because the 2nd chapter sets you back. Also, where are the world shapers and ramunap excavators of the world?
was thinking about something similar....but using heroic intervention, hour of revelation for one-sided board wipes. and finishing with sylvan awakening....i just really want to break aylvan awakening lol
This was the first deck I wanted to.male as soon as they spoiled the fill set So question: No raff? Seth you don't want to at upkeep Blow up lands? Watchers of the dead? Locks them out of all but two lands SETTTTHHHHHH I was expecting Da spice! My final iteration Playset of: As Foretold Raff Thran Temporal Gateway Gilded lotus
Your WU control opp. seemed to not play control correctly. They tapped out multiple times which was what let you just do what you want. (Also you played 4 control matches. Wasn’t too varied of a sample size. But I guess that’s just what the meta is rn.)
make giddy a creature then equip helm when you move to combat you make a copy.of gideon the plainswalker who can use his loyalty abilities to say neg and make.an emblem. i believe you.have to reequip every combat
Anyone else triggered by Saffron having the combo ready to go multiple times and not using it? At least three times I saw six mana up,, Mending on Two, Scavenger Grounds in play Fall of the Thran in hand, enemy tapped out. So easy to play Fall, pass turn, allow the Mending to get back all lands the next turn, then nuke the graveyard so Fall's second and third triggers do nothing. I mean, this sort of thing sometimes happens when combo decks are there but it really got to me this time. It seemed like you didn't want to play the combo.
I'd say 1 less mending and 1 less Fall of the Thran for 2 Word Shapers, together with 1 more Tatyova. She is just to much value with Extra lands entering the battlefield. I would definitely like to see a Tatyova deck.
i dont like playing 4 elfes and only 3 untapped green sources. i would trim down on blue, and going up on aether hub for consistent curving out. servant of the conduit is in my opinion better than drover, consistent stats and more resilient against walking ballista. with those changes, nezahal's cost is too taxing (i dont like him anyways), just put another carnage tyrant in. curving from lyra into tyrant with one ramp creature (and maybe one that ate a removal spell) puts a lot of pressure on the opponent, while being ahead on board AND having armageddon in the deck. teferi can be maindeck. I'd like to see some experiments with history of benalia in the sideboard. i like slamming cards that require immediet answers.
that rat colony deck needs to sideboard for ixalans binding for goodnes sake, it is the one epic removal against your deck except for board sweepers...
I am so disappointed by the lack of Multani, Sun's Avatar in the deck. Seriously! Seth, you forgot to mention drawing cards as one of your favorite things to do in Magic!
Igna M. Gavier but it's an instant speed backup plan not to mention the fact that he's running 8 mana dorks that it can also defend. I'd figure it's be sideboard worthy at least
You can vote for next week's deck here! www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/against-the-odds-bant-geddon-standard

Hey! I'm an argentinian player, and I love your content! Keep it up!
Hooray for timecode not being product placement!
14:25 SAFFRON BOT MALFUNCTIONING
Good fucking lord that was hilarious. Wonder how many takes it takes him normally.
Now we know Mark Zuckerberg is not the only one...
YES YES

I've gotta say, the editing has gotten pretty weird and a bit sloppy lately on the audio. :/
I love the idea of turning the weakness of settle the wreckage to your advantage with fall of the thran.
I love it how this video's takeaway is how The Mending of Dominaria is severely underrated at the moment. I'm looking forward to play with it. I also love that 31:00 "Tatyova" pronunciation.
This deck gave me the idea of brewing Modern Tatyova Turbofog with Sphinx's Tutelage and Splendid Reclamantion. To the Brewmobile!
Sounds sweet!
"We're gonna die to rat colony!" - seth, sounding exactly as excited as he would if he were playing the rats.
Rats cycled a cast out at one point, so theres at least one answer that the deck has to Binding
great deck, your standard land destruction ato from a year or 2 ago is still one of my favorites. but dear god I watched the replay of your knight stream earlier so it feels like i've watched you play against control 19 times in a row today
24:21 Play some rats, draw some cards...
I was literally applauding at the first Fall of the Thran drop. Fantastic!
I’ve been waiting for this!
you guys have a talent of uploading right when i need it
I read the title, was confused for a second, but then a grin spread across my face.
Wait, where's the sweet Sylvan awakening combo?
Sprachfailer 8 mana
git gud son ramp a little. People are playing zacama on standart
No, no they really aren't. At least, not competitively, that's for sure
You're thinking of Brawl. This isn't Brawl.
Nevermind, NINE MANA TOTAL
That thumbnail is awesome. One of my favorites.
It might be better to just have Naga Vitalist. We do have a couple of Dinos though, so there is some upside to Drover in the late game.
Did you just forget that Botanical Sanctum is still in Standard? All those taplands were killing you.
"The Seal Away stands alone." LOL
18:05 Settle the Wreckage, opponent gets a ton of lands, untap and Armageddon seems like the obvious play but I like the manly "take it to the face" approach
So Settle the Wreckage was my plan, but once I passed I realized that Shalai was giving the opponent hexproof so we couldn't cast Settle :(
You didn't even attempt the Settle because you already figured this out, you win this round Olive. I'll be back on the next video waiting for that satisfying, righteous strike the fear of god in you sized punt. #TheGoldFishProtector
Was anyone else's audio messed up a bit when seth said card names?
I think his new editor is a little sloppy with the cuts. As someone who used to do this in school, its not a hard thing to fix because it just means a few extra minutes paying attention to the audio when editing.

Exploring the Carnage Tyrant into the graveyard with jadelight ranger in game 1 vs. aetherflux was a really strange choice also. You were about to get back two untapped lands from mending next turn, which would allow you to play it, your single copy.
I was rooting so hard for that Rat Colony deck, that was a true Against the Odds deck.
Me too, but honestly, that version seemed not that great :/ Opp was splashing white but couldn't get himself rid of Ixalan's Binding in both games. Maybe a UW version with Tetsuko would be better.

Thanks for the fast editing. Feel like this deck is better w/o fall of the thran. Just so hard to make it nonsymmetric.
I think Fall is fine, but needs fewer high-cost bombs so that he doesn't need Fall to be asymmetric.
But the opponent will likely get 4 lands back too. Except you spent 6 mana and a card to do it first. If it's not asymmetric it's just the worst card.
obesechicken13
By that logic Armageddon was just two mana cheaper but was still the lynchpin of dozens of tournament-winning decks, in a format with Moxen. I wasn't around when armageddon was around but I imagine like you said moxen (maybe borderpost) were key to breaking the symmetry. Something you can't really do in standard as well.
Okay. So what would you replace it with?
I don’t know why you don’t try a heroic intervention. It gives all permanents indestructible so it could be a one sided Armageddon.
It's sweet, it's just pretty expensive (need eight mana to make it work). Mending sort of does the same thing, but for much less mana.
MTGGoldfish the trigger for thran only goes off after you draw. You have the untap step before upkeep, you heroic intervention on upkeep and then naturalize the thran on upkeep. Get your draw step but no more thran so neither will get back lands.
Geddon goes off as soon as you cast it. Waiting for the next draw step is too slow cornxx3.
Fall Of The Thran and The Mending Of Dominaria? Oh yeah I can get behind this!
I agree that the new editor (if this is their work) needs to take a few extra minutes and do things right because it was REALLY bad in this video
Thanks for the feedback!
Also, if there's any specific part of the video that is causing problems let me know.
14:55 to 15:20ish has several weird skips, and again at 15:58 with "llanowar elves" are two examples
14:25 as well, but I would consider getting to hear the drawn out "iiiiiiinnn dominaria" twice is a feature, not a bug. :P
"settle the wreckage really kind of cute in this deck"...I have never thought of that card as "cute"
28:50 I want that limited edition GREEN Walk the Plank! :p
Oh MTGO
That was awesome and makes me want to build a BW or esper artifact midrange deck with Fall/Scriptures and a bunch of beat down artifacts/Herald of Anguish. I think the trick to scriptures is that it actually needs a bunch of beatdown artifacts and just using fall/scriptures as inevitability.

Love the use of the big Dino's
’’Let’s just play one of every good 5-drop.’’ Seth’s decks in a nutshell
Was R1 G2 the sixty one card special?
If you reveal a nonland card the first time Jadelight Ranger explores and leave it on top of your library, you’ll reveal the same card the second time it explores. If you don’t pretend to be surprised, you’ll hurt Jadelight Ranger’s feelings.
Found this in the official rulings for Jadelight ranger from wizards of the coast
Where is the Yargle on the Poll?
Oh don't worry, we'll do something with Yargle before long :)
I need that Karn artifact list.
Antaeus Austin I think it is similar to a deck that was played during the dominaria standard testing video of the 8th of May in the MtgBrewersSpark channel
so, teferi is the new panharmonicon for Seth?
If only it wasn't $40 I would squeeze Karn and Teferi is most decks.

I was super impressed with Mending, we'll be playing it more I'm sure.
just brewed up a jeskai version. skirk prospector to try get down turn 2 as foretold, reduce to rubble to stall turn 3/4 and fumigate for turn 5 and a fall of thran for t6 with sentinel post. game plan is after you wipe you have as foretold to keep going while there stalled
You could play hope tender in this deck too. Exert to untap 2 lands.
It occurs to me that one reason this deck isn't getting fast starts despite 4 Llanowar elves is that the only way you cast an elf on turn one is if you draw one of your ***three*** forests to go with that elf.
Seth, what about an Abzan list with mending AND scriptures?
This is really cool!!! I think the blues the wrong call. I think you go black and eldest reborn aswell.
33:35 Pretty sure you should've played Fall of the Thran to cut them off mana
Woo! Destroy all the lands!!!! I drafted Fall of the Thran and it dominated and everyone hated me!
Yeah I've never drafted a deck and thought "wow I really want a Fall of the Thran in this."
Brontodons would be a good way to get rid of Thran also. Could just sac destroy target your own enchantment?
And get them back with Mending!
Watching UW Control get crushed makes me happy. Thanks Seth!
It felt pretty bad because of Inspiring Statuary allowing our opponent to still make a bunch of mana. Maybe we should have done it anyway.
Seems like Seff is going mad slowly. This is a price for being a genius
9:25
Linus Westcott thanks
Redo Enduring ideal with the Sagas, Search up Leyline of the Void and then Fall of the Thran.
Why not the amonkhet rare indistructible five-mana filter land?
Seth, there are multiple times in this video where the audio is weird. Please fix
I think if I was to play rat colony I'd play Blue Black to protect from sweepers and to have a way to draw and refill. Not to mention umazawa to make them unblockable is an option then or Scarab God as another option.
UB Rats sounds pretty competitive (at least as far as Rat Colony decks go). I like it.
Please do Naya Land Destruction in standard. I can upload my decklist but truthfully, its a pretty obvious decklist. You should be able to put it together. I took 4-1 2 weeks in a row at fnm. Only lost to UW Flash Control each time.
There are some weird editing skips throughout the games against rabblemasterblaster starting at 14:45
There's no need to splash blue, it only hurts your mana. You could build GW and still kept the Merfolk and you would've been fine.
I hope that Jace's Negate art comes to MTGO someday. So trippy
Can this decck work in Arena as well? Considering priority and in which row the triggers are happening?
I don't think the Sagas work on Arena at the moment (you could test it, I'm not sure the order that they auto-stack in, but I know you can't choose the order).
Oh, man. If Ixalan's binding rotates out I can imagine the gigantic influx of rat decks if there's no placeholder
Phyrexian scriptures probably isn't great because the 2nd chapter sets you back. Also, where are the world shapers and ramunap excavators of the world?
Hi Seth!! Try to create a Standard turbo turns!!
Thank you!
was thinking about something similar....but using heroic intervention, hour of revelation for one-sided board wipes. and finishing with sylvan awakening....i just really want to break aylvan awakening lol
I don’t know why you don’t run spring to mind to ramp so you don’t auto lose to faster decks
This was the first deck I wanted to.male as soon as they spoiled the fill set
So question:
No raff? Seth you don't want to at upkeep Blow up lands?
Watchers of the dead? Locks them out of all but two lands
SETTTTHHHHHH I was expecting Da spice!
My final iteration
Playset of:
As Foretold
Raff
Thran Temporal Gateway
Gilded lotus
Daniel Gehring ha sorry I wanted to make a ridiculous deck of just cutting my opponent off of mana while I still can play
oh my....spicy! (minus the Gateway)
why no settle @18:04?
I noticed a couple games after sideboarding you had 61 cards. Was there a reason to go up to 61?
i''m now wondering if it's posibIe to make "faII of the rats" deck (armageddon deck with the rats as a finisher)
Please do against the odds with helm of the host/panharmonicon with primeval and inferno titans
why no icy manipulator, for extra land denial?
Ha! The old school player in me loves that. Maybe a few Ernham Djinn and you've got a deck there mister.
I like the brew!!
Seth while back I emailed you a sultai turbo fog decklist, do u want to see it again and maybe post it on instant deck tech
Send it to me again, just in case it got lost in the shuffle.
Your WU control opp. seemed to not play control correctly. They tapped out multiple times which was what let you just do what you want. (Also you played 4 control matches. Wasn’t too varied of a sample size. But I guess that’s just what the meta is rn.)
Llanowar elves with only 3 untapped green sources on turn 1, seems legit to me
Please make UB pack rat aggro. Blue for tetsuko and counters against sweeps and bindings
21:54 you have to cast mending for lyra
We shouldn’t have kept it....😂 you kept it Seth
What happens when you equip helm of the host to Gideon?
Starwarrior2k You make a non-legendary copy of the Gideon that isn't a creature yet, but can activate it's abilities later in the turn.
make giddy a creature
then equip helm
when you move to combat you make a copy.of gideon the plainswalker who can use his loyalty abilities to say neg and make.an emblem. i believe you.have to reequip every combat
You make more Gideons :)
As much as I appreciate the past, I kind of wish he would use the new Llanowar elves art. Would feel more like standard.
You need to do the rat colony deck
Indeed!
I take that back this decks my dream deck
Did excavator not test well?
that rat colony deck needs to sideboard for ixalans binding for goodnes sake, it is the one epic removal against your deck except for board sweepers...
Yeah. Also Lost Legacy, so probably need counters and also way sot deal with Ixalan's binding.
what about steel leaf champ? :)
Really hard to cast in a three-color deck.
How 'bout Nissa Tribal? PLS!
I am so disappointed by the lack of Multani, Sun's Avatar in the deck. Seriously! Seth, you forgot to mention drawing cards as one of your favorite things to do in Magic!
Wouldn't heroic intervention be great here as well? 2 drop instant all your permanents gain indestructible and hexproof.
Igna M. Gavier but it's an instant speed backup plan not to mention the fact that he's running 8 mana dorks that it can also defend. I'd figure it's be sideboard worthy at least
