    They always have a huge line, it's backs up one road. But man it's worth the wait and the view is beautiful. I love living in Maine.

    The food is not worth the long wait! My dad waited like 1-2 hours! It’s not great food to me! Best lobster roll doesn’t go to them!

      Yeah you should go to spragues instead

    • @thomasphillips8521
      @thomasphillips8521 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Spragues is worth the wait you’ll get there. Don’t know why Mainers care to spend hours waiting for cold lobster with dressing tbh - thought locals, especially frugal Mainers, would be wiser to preparation of a local delicacy

    They are the best, but I was disappointed last time (like 4yrs ago) because I seemed to have been shortchanged on my lobster meat. :/ I ordered, then watched someone who ordered 6 well after I ordered get theirs first piled high with meat. I got half the amount of lobster. Wasn't happy, but couldn't complain because too busy & would feel like a jerk. I waited over an hr in torrential rain, spent like $24-28 on one roll. Only have one chance for perfection, & my luck. :(

    I'm from Phippsburg, and we go to Red's, a couple of times, each summer. And as we travel around the state, we try lobster rolls, everywhere (including "locals places") and NONE compare in terms of volume of meat for the price. (nevermind freshness!) They're the ONLY place in Maine, not out to rip tourists off, with tiny lobster rolls for big prices. (Most places give you a small hotdog bun, with less than 1/4 of the meat, for the same or more money. They're a total rip off!)
    We highly recommend Red's, and B-line it there, when friends and family visit. The wait lines are sometimes long, but everyone's very nice. (We love chatting with people visiting from all over the world. And they're on vaca, so they're in good spirits!) Also, Red's always has employees handing out *free, ice cold, bottled water, from a cooler, and even distribute Red's umbrellas to shade you from the sun! I've never seen that, anywhere else in Maine. And, no matter how busy or hot it is, the employees are always SO nice. To top it off, they even have an employee checking the picnic tables out back, to see if you need another drink, more melted butter, napkins, etc. (There's no table service. It's just a nice thing that they do for their customers, at no cost.) You just can't beat that, anywhere!!
    We always order 2 lobster rolls, an order of their sweet potato fries (incredible!) and a diet and regular Moxie. [FYI: Moxie's a soda from Maine, that's been around since the late 1800s (longer than Coke). It's sort of an acquired taste - like Birch Beer, Sasparella, (2 more old fashioned sodas) and Dr. Pepper)] Anyway, we eat 1/2 of the lobster with our rolls, and take the rest home to freeze and make a scampi or lobster cakes from. Trust me. There's NO other place in Maine that'll give you SO much meat on your lobster roll, that you can get another meal out of it.
    Enjoy & Welcome to The Great State of Maine! 🌲🌲🧜‍♀️🌲🌲

    Thank you Debbie, five fantastic lobster rolls, excellent sweet potato fries and the best Haddock ever!! You even remembered us two days later. You should think about opening a few more spots, like Bar Harbor, or New Jersey ;-)

    Please you NYC/Boston, Philly people. NO one from Maine goes there. Long lines of you gorditos, traffic next to your butt, and the price is the most in Maine. There are so many scenic places with better cuisine, less $$$, better food. $36 + for a lobster roll ! Look around like across the traffic.

    You know, I've driven by here I don't know how many times when I'm driving to Boothbay Harbor, & I just never make the time to stop in. Heck, I stay in a cottage on an island just 15 minutes away! I had never seen the lobster rolls in person though, & wow. What in the world have I been doing? If I can make the time to go to Maine for a week/weekend, I plan on finally stopping here.

      It's 20-something dollars each (1 size), but there's SO much meat, that you can easily take 1/2 home for another meal! (lobster cakes, lobster scampie)
      My husband and I order 2 rolls, an order of sweet potato fries, and 2 sodas (and go home with plenty of meat for another meal.)

      What? 22 bucks? And that was 2 years ago, before the war in Ukraine.... meaning the Lobstermen now have exorbitant fuel costs and I'm sure _Red's_ has priced their sandwiches accordingly 😥

    Went to this place summer of 2012. Waited in line for 25 mins. The $68 for two lobster rolls and 2 drinks was worth it.

    Too bad about the hour long traffic jam getting in or out of Wiscasset. My entire family spends summers up the road in South Bristol but we only visit Wiscasset twice a summer... once while we sit in traffic on the way north, and once again when we sit in traffic on the way south. Much of the traffic jam has to do with the pedestrian traffic caused by Red's Eats. We won't spend a dime in Wiscasset until the town does something to correct the congestion at the foot of the bridge.

    • @mainemermaid6596
      @mainemermaid6596 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FYI: This post was from years ago. The town has taken some steps to alleviate traffic, and there are more parking lots now too. Wiscasset's an adorable Maine town, and is worth visiting. Red's lobster rolls are the largest and freshest you'll find in the state of Maine. We live nearby, and I'm always on the lookout for great lobster rolls when we road trip around, but none ever compare to Red's!)

    Not for LOCALS "tourist trap warning!" They store their roll's outside on a pallet... the bottom buns get munched on by some nasty little rodents! LOCALS EAT AT "larsons lunchbox" In Damariscotta or Watermans beach in Owls Head. I should know, I was born 28 years ago in mid coast maine and haven't left.

      I'm from Phippsburg, and we go to Red's a couple times, every summer.
      There are no rolls sitting near the ground! (Geesh!) They come in fresh every morning, and with the HUGE volume there, are gone by the end of the day. We eat lobster rolls ALL summer, including "locals places," and NONE compare in terms of volume of meat for the price (nevermind freshness). They're the ONLY place in Maine, not out to rip off tourists with tiny lobster rolls for big prices. (Most places give you a small hotdog bun, with less than 1/4 of the meat, for the same or more money. Total rip off! But, not at Red's.)
      We highly recommend Red's, and B-line it there, when friends and family visit. The lines are sometimes long, but everyone's very nice. (We love chatting with people visiting from all over the world. And they're on vaca, so they're in good spirits!) Also, Red's always has employees handing out *free, ice cold, bottled water, from a cooler, and even distribute Red's umbrellas to shade from the sun! I've never seen that, anywhere in Maine, and no matter how busy it is, they're alwas SO nice. To top it off, they even have an employee checking the picnic tables out back, to see if you need another drink, more melted butter, napkins, etc. (There's no table service. It's just a nice thing they do for their customers, at no cost.) Top that!!

    As you can see at the 10 sec mark,they're not even using freshly shelled lobster,it's being scooped from the plastic container which clearly reads mill cove lobster,not cool!!!😒

    • @Dreaklock
      @Dreaklock 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Holly Correia What's wrong with Mill Cove lobster? The customers seem to love it, and the owner says it's fresh meat.

    • @hollycorreia6070
      @hollycorreia6070 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't exactly say the meat wasn't fresh ,I said it wasn't shelled in the restaurant itself ,straight out of the lobster,it was being taken out of a container,all I meant was by the way the owner was stressing the freshness point,I just figured it would be all done in house .

    • @Dreaklock
      @Dreaklock 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayde Reed How come the Clam Shack in Kennebunk IS allowed to process their own lobster but not Red's?

    • @mainemermaid6596
      @mainemermaid6596 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol! Take a look at the size of the place! It's just a stand, that's barely large enough to hold the 3 people, working inside! It comes there in coolers, all day long (picked at the wharf nearby and sent right over on ice.) The rolls are great size/quality too (fresh, and grilled in butter - YUM!)
      And she's right. You CAN taste the brine/salt water in the meat, and that's the best way to gauge freshness. (And, I should know. My husbsnd and I caught/cooked our own lobster, for many years.)
      The sheer volume of customers in the course of a summer day is enormous! All season long, the line runs around the corner, and it's worth every minute! There are picnic tables behind it, or you can sit across the street at the dock tables.
      As Mainers, we eat lobster rolls all the time, and have NEVER seen them as big as Reds!! (Most restaurants are tourist traps, charge even more, and give you 1/4 or less meat. They fill the bun with lettuce and put 2 T meat on top.)
      At Reds, my husband and I eat a nice roll full of meat (with their awesome sweet potato fries), and take the rest home for another meal. (We love lobster scampie.) FYI: Fresh lobster meat freezes fine too, but you should eat it within a month or 2 tops.
