I am Greek and I' ve spent many hours watching videos about gyro reviews all over the USA (mostly that chicago best). This place is the only(!!!) one that sell the authentic GREEK gyros and not that disqusting doner that -for love of God- isn't only lamp(as you may think).Greetings from Athens, Greece!
I've had Greek food in Barbados, made by a Greek cook. The Gyros are LIFE. I highly recommend Greek food. It's fresh, truly delicious and packed to the max with flavor and love!!!!!!!!
I watched hundreds videos with Greek restaurants in USA, from "Kitchen Nightmares" to "Chicago's Best"..."Gyro City" is probably the only authentic 100% Greek restaurant in the whole USA! Not only because gyros is made with PORK, mostly because they put french fries on gyros-pita.
How am I only finding this video now and especially since I live in Boston already? Next day I have off work, i must find this place!!! Living in Boston is so damn awesome, so spoiled that this is my hometown. Best restaurants and best sports teams/championships
You're the best. I have seen so many videos. You' re the first and the only that you say gyros is made from pork. Keep going like this. Very good job. Love Greece. Αγαπάμε Ελλαδάρα
I'll say it's the first REAL gyro shop I've seen outside nyc in the usa, but def not first in usa no way, had real authentic gyro shops and stands and trucks in nyc before these kids wer even thought of , especially in Astoria....
Yes! That is definitely a pure Greek street food, original gyradiko. One thing that has to be said is that gyros originally has and tomato sauce. Few here know that. Greetings from Greece.
I loved right around the cnr for a couple years, I never tried there place, but right nextdoor to them is a shop that makes the best steak and cheese. 😉
+Mike M oh ! i had not notice that... Thessaloniki is not the capital of Macedonia , if saying Macedonia you mean FYROM ( this what you probably mean ) , but Thessaloniki is the capital of the Greek administrative district of Macedonia...
Well, these guys actually serve the real thing. Real stacked pork gyros. Not pre-processed lamb "gyro" cones which are actually more similar to doner, as you will often get in the states.
In America even the gyros places owned by Greeks use the cones these days. Yet to see in person any gyros place that didn't. Really glad to see there is a real gyros place, hopefully that will inspire more places to open up using the traditional thinly sliced pork rather than processed cones.
Those shavers though . By cutting the meat so small and thin, it gets dry too fast and looses it's texture and some flavor . Traditionally it's cut with a long knife to order so it's hot and super fresh . Shawarma knife is what it's called by some ?
The Greek fries are not always crispy as in a lot of places the deep fry with olive oil which cooking temperature is lower to cook making the fries not crispy but with a distinctive flavour, still lovely. And in other places in Greece I have had the bread poured on to the hotplate like making a pancake to make the Pitta , crispy and fluffy, one shop in Cephalonia used to serve them this way.
This GYRO-CITY is authentic store. I never went there because I am from Greece. But as far I saw it must be the best gyros store abroad. Here we have thousands of these stores.Everybody eats this. It's like a pizza here.People that have this business must be proud. And this is not gyros it is ΄γύρος. Just to know (γ=g,υ=i).Turks have that with lamp but it is nasty thing. We greeks are christians and they are muslims. That's why they don't eat pork but we do.Greek food is delicius!Go for a try.
Absolutely authentic Kreta (Crete) Style! Great! But I have to correct him in one detail: The greek burger patty he claims to be a "Bifteki" is a "Souzouki"! A Souzouki is spiced and herbed meat, formed into a patty and grilled. And Biftekis are from the same spiced meat, but formed into pockets and stuffed with Fetacheese, small diced tomatoes and fresh herbs, grilled till nicely crusty and the cheese starts dripping out ... which is an unbelievable juicy, tasty over the top delicousity experience for itself.
also there is mpifteki with bread/tomato/parsley/egg/onion/garlic , soutzouki has spices and minced meat . Sometimes 50-50 beef/pork and some times lamb , we also sometimes consider some as kebab, i am not familiar what changes to soutzouki (not souzouki, souzouki is a bike)
I'm more of a traditionalist. Slice the gyro meat off the spit with a knife. I understand the pizza type slicer is more for speed's sake, but gyro slices should be long and thin, not bits and bits and bits.
been through different places in Greece but the best Gyros I ever tasted so far is in Santorini Greece and it's really cheap like Pork Gyros with soda is not even 4 euro.
I live here in Boston it'll be my first time there I. early November 2022. I been Zos gyros already 3 times in the past they open and close to early and closed on weekends
I would like to eat there very much, but live in France so can't. Our gyros are made with veal and turkey and are pretty good served in thin Turkish flat breads
So let me ask a question to the Greek Americans . How come you guys serve the lamb version rather than the traditional pork gyro ? Not that I'm complaining I happen to love the cone lamb and beef waste as one of the commenters elegantly put it .😁lol.
It's usually what they remember since leaving Greece, which is about when german-turkish doner became popular and the recipe was adapted to make meatloaf gyros. Also, it's usually not actual lamb in that beef and lamb meatloaf. Rather, it's beef plus some lamb suet (hard fat) that's mixed in, so that it'll baste the beef and impart some lamb flavour.
I am curious how the meat is kept from spoiling, if at the end of the day what do you do if the spit is still half full, into the refrigerator? with the outside cooked and the inside still raw,, ??
The only difference between Greek and Turkish gyro is the type of meat used. And maybe the thickness it is sliced. Don't know how its in Greece but in US the Greek gyro is rarely made with pork. Mostly lamb and beef mixture...
+DeMoNxxxFoX The main difference is gyros is shreds of actual meat, while the turkish version (doner) is made out of ground meat mixed with spices - think of it as shreds of big burger patties. The turkish version also customarily uses meats other than pork because Islam forbids it and the majority of turks are muslims.
For sure! But I dont like how he claims they invented em. HUH?!?! LOLOLOL NO WAY PAL, been eating the same exact thing in Astoria Queens NY for YYEEAAARRRSSS NOW!!! Thsyve been referred to as "Greek fries" here In Astoria as longs i can recall!

I live up the street from here and it's always amazing, every time I get a gyro. The consistency is what makes this place awesome.

Looks better than we can get here in Kokkini Xani, Crete!
Wow, thanks for pronouncing "Gyro" correctly... it drives me crazy when people (including those that sell them) have no idea how to pronounce it.
Looks yummy! 😋😊🤙🏼
