    Really appreciate you guys for testing these. Unfortunately, they performed about how I suspected but i still appreciate you guys for putting the time, effort, and money into putting these into gel and armour.

    Thanks so much for testing this stuff out. I was really interested in the claimed ballistics, but don't;t have anywhere to test. It sounded too good to be true and it was.

    Should've had a second block to see just how deep the round would've kept going. 16"-18" is the gold standard. Thank you for the test regardless.

    5 inch barrel. Over 900 fps. 185 grains. What's the issue? It's got what, 40 or so more energy on target vs an axg 9mm round? I don't think it's worth the price, but it's not horrible.

    Overpenetration kills or wounds slightly fewer people every year than the number of honest politicians in Chicago.
    Conclusion, those concerned about over penetration should avoid standing near or behind people I am shooting at.
    FBI has some excellent studies regarding handgun ballistics. A very clear refutation of knock down power, temporary wound cavity, permanent wound cavity, physiological factors of incapacitation and how insignificant over penetration actually is. Over penetration is only useful to me in that adequate penetration may be obtained with less recoil provided the bullets expansion is not compromised.

    • @FirearmEnthusiast

      I'd rather have AP rounds than HP for this very reason.

  • @bigmike-

    1) A slow, heavy projectile won't pierce armor. The way to beat armor is with velocity and a very high ballistic coefficient. The "armor test" was a nice touch but I think everyone knows it's gonna be a fail, which leads to...
    2) The penetration test. The "through and through" penetration seen with the gel block is ideal for 2 distinct types of threats: Big, muscular animals, and people wearing many layers of clothing. These rounds specifically fill that niche, and do it very, very well.
    Comparing these rounds against the criteria of lighter ammunition is a little silly because they're meant to do entirely different things.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not really. Let me quote from the box, because the WEBSITE apparently says different things than the BOX does, and not everyone is going to visit the website who picks up a box, if they become available at BassPro and Sportsman's Warehouse. The BOX says "Seismic High Mass Ammunition produces an extremely heavy weight line of ammunition for ultimate knock down power." It also says "The ability of a projectile to penetrate and damage a target is dependant on it's momentum. The formula for momentum is : P, (momentum), + M,(mass), x V,(velocity)" Sounds like Fackler has been reborn.
      As for through and through - the gel block was too short, needed two of them, but it didn't even begin to expand when it went through 16 inches of gel. The ammo you are thinking of for big muscular animals are usually SOLIDS, hard cast or jacketed solids meant to penetrate to the vitals. However, I have no doubt that Quakemaker was NOT designed for hunting purposes. This ammo WAS designed to do exactly what the other rounds were designed to do - self defense, and not one single company I am aware of marketing ammo in the United States sells ammo for winter heavy clothing and summer light clothing, marketed as such. Please, if I am wrong, direct me where I might find some - we rarely if EVER have heavy clothing down here in AZ.
      Thank you for your reply - this was, as always a simple couple of guys with some stuff doing a very informal test of a "new and improved whiz bang" item.

      @zackzittel7683 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Big mike, ballistic coefficient has nothing to do with piercing armor. M193 has a very low BC but it does much better than the 70+ grain options that have nearly double the ballistic coefficient. Speed kills. More important than BC is bullet construction ie steel or tungsten or aluminum cores/tips

    • @FirearmEnthusiast
      @FirearmEnthusiast 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zackzittel7683 Precisely. Which is why AP ammo is more devastating than the stuff we civilians are "allowed" to own. That's hopefully all changing soon with the advent of exotic alloy AP ammo such as the Dagny Dagger from Atlas Arms.

    9” of penetration “was the star of the show” ? They say the 185gr will get much more penetration so you show up with one 16” block? Why not catch it with the armor panel after it exits the block? So we can see what it looks like? Btw golden saber is the shit I love it I’ve got dozens of boxes in various calibers. It’s cheap as dirt for a HP.

    • @zackzittel7683

      @armoredman sounds like a plan. I’ve suggested to many gel test TH-cam’s to do some 45super gel tests but they haven’t yet. It’s gaining popularity and everyone’s done every caliber ever it seems like, except 45super. Factory super ammo can be shot in any full size 45 enough times to test it. I think it would be a popular vid.

    • @armoredman
      @armoredman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zackzittel7683 I even still have some of these rounds left and it's getting cold enough that the do-it-yourself gel blocks might be feasible. The one we used was $150 delivered.

      @zackzittel7683 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know traditional gel is more of a pain to make and store but it actually shows temporary stretch cavity and permanent cavity much better than clear gel. I like the animal based gel better for getting an idea of performance. Think about doing 45 super please! I think it would be a popular video and help expose more people to a great performing round.

      All hollow point ammo is designed to stop inside the target, which means it has transferred all energy to that target and not wasted any beyond, especially if the thing BEYOND the target is Grandma. Ammo designed to penetrate and keep going is either called ball or AP, and neither is a good choice for self defense...unless, it's all you have.

      Have you ever watched a video called Deadly Weapons, from the 80s? A man is shot by a .308 FN FAL at a range of about 2 feet while standing on one foot and doesn't fall down. If it was that strong to knock you down, the equal and opposite reaction part of Sir Issac's equation would knock you down as well. Incidentally, I do recommend the Deadly Weapons movie for some interesting thing, just skip the first 30-40 minutes of water jug shooting.
