But in the late 90s our village council leader woke up to someone in his bedroom robbing them.
Luckily they scared the theif more than them being scared and he ran
It wasn't anyone we knew nor did they ever find him.
After that we more often lock our doors.
Even when I'm home working out in the greenhouse and gardens.

In home invasion robberies you should always expect that the criminals are more than likely violent it ain't like snatch and run they are more than likely willing to kill
That is why a lot of smart states have castle laws that mean entering a property without the permission of owner or owners of property can be seen as self defense if the owner uses a firearm or other weapon to defend the property

    • @mallarysangel

Generalizing, in order of least punishable to more, and different from state to state:
      Robbery: theft of a person
Burglary: theft of properties such as cars, coin op machines, uninhabited buildings.
Aggravated robbery : theft of a person while displaying a deadly weapon, or when causing bodily injury.
Burglary of a habitation: theft of an inhabited or inhabitable property
Home invasion : felony during the course of a burglary of a habitation. Generally bodily injury, SA, abduction while displaying a deadly weapon.
You can make an aggravated, or armed, robbery stick on a habitation, while inhabitants are present, but it’s usually gonna work out better to go with a burglary. You can make a home invasion charge under certain circumstances, but it may be better to go with another charge unless its truest intended purpose is met. It’s all about the highest charge with the elements of the crime that fit. It’s better to charge up as much as possible and let the DA knock it down.

I almost got home invasioned once. Guy came to my door with a story, apparently he was being chased by some other guys. This was the first time I had heard this story (I heard the exact same story again about 5 years later), so I let him come in and hide while I call him a taxi. Me being me, I locked my huge ass door behind him, accidentally foiling his plan entirely as his friends would be unable to get in. I then caught him twitching the curtains, and told him to get away from the window before somebody spots him. He wasn't listening, so I lost my patience and went ham on him with my bat. A few days later, I told my friend about the whole ordeal, and that's when I found out that this guy was trying to rob me. What a poor fool.

Though I do dislike to say as much, my residence is now a trap for would-be invaders.
If they are lucky enough to escape intact (which they will not) they may well think twice about returning. It is actually rather easy to turn any living space into an "oubliette" or worse.
Home- invaders imagine that once they are inside, they rule. Often, this is true, but with very little effort any home-owner can turn around the rules of them game in their favor . Well, well worth the effort.

The home invasion was really, really scary and I’ll tell you why.
I am a retired Seattle public defender and a true crime fan. I’ve been reading true crime since I was a young adult. And I have a weird affection for burglars.
In my experience and most of the things I’ve read, most burglars are stupid bunglers who can’t make it in life. They just want your stuff! Then they’ll fence it. That is their business. It is your job to not leave your sliding glass door open. It is their job to steal your shit. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but there are worse criminals than burglars.
But these guys proved that they weren’t really burglars.
A home like that has lots of stuff, fencable stuff. Burglars know what that stuff is and they look for it.
These guys did not look for stuff that they could sell. All they seem to be interested was the knives and the knife block.
There was nothing blocking their exit.
When they heard people in the house…they ran TOWARD it.
In my humble opinion, these men were rapists, and possibly hobby murders.
Burglars run AWAY from the presence of people in their marked home. Not towards people.
Burglars stake out a home specifically so that they know nobody is there when they go in to take your shit!

Second time was more recently when person across the street was moving and an older man came in looking for the tag sale: "Um, that's across the street." Both times they were appropriately embarassed, but have always been thankful first guy wasn't a creep and that I had good neighbors if he had been.

That second one has me so freaking mad.
What was their purpose? They tried breaking into the room with knives. I doubt it was to share a steak dinner. I wish I was there with my friend’s. Well my AK isn’t so little but it’s a loyal friend😉

Is it possible to get a version of the CCTV clip with an even bigger, more obnoxious animated arrow? I could still see the door pretty clearly. 😄

Ever since the initial invention of photography people have learned how to manipulate the images. This is nothing new. That photo was done that way on purpose. Well done though.

The woman on the driveway seems to be yelling "pass auf" which is German and translates to "look out!' , "watch out" or "danger".

And unfortunately they live in California so the teens who did the home invasion will likely not see jail time whatsoever!

But it's very likely that once "legal aged", they'll do it again and if they're lucky, they'll get caught! If not, a homeowner will end their journey!
Where I live, 95% of all homeowners are Armed and won't hesitate to defend their home!

Kallen the one with the reflection has someone peeking out of a curtained cupboard, and one more odd thing I spotted but can't remember.

A white spot of light on the wall above the boy. Also the mirror. So a three in 1.

Makes sense 1917 was a harrowing time in Russia . I'd imagine the spirits were in overdrive.

Some people really never get wise: Being robbed first and then leaving your doors open!? Does that make any sense? This is ASKING for trouble. 😮

I used to think that with so much surveillance ability available to the masses that things like assaults and home- invasions would become obsolete.
It turns out that all that has changed is that those people who have the urges to behave badly have become far more brazen and they are willing to go to greater lengths to express their awful behaviors.
This bodes very badly for small rural communities where seemingly nothing of great interest ever happens. People in these places still feel their communities are just as lively and harmless as they were in the 1950s.
People who are harmful have changed their hunting grounds to these localities. Hunting there is great, better than the olde days.
To them, it does not matter if they are caught on camera. It is not a deterrent in any way, so, don't fool yourself.
Assume that if you should find yourself in their crosshairs, their intention is to ruin you or something you value highly.
Prepare yourself now for this day. A humble, easily -achieved effort on your part can swiftly undermine the worst intentions of your threat.
      Think, prepare, act, win.

Shouldn't have kept there sliding door unlocked. I always keep my doors locked. Looks like they need an alarm system now too not just cameras.

1.The clock at the top of the stairs looks like it's 6:55.
    2. Cutting the phone line in the kitchen only effects the phone in the kitchen. It's the 2020's, who doesn't have a cell?
    3. Those who break into houses get out when they hear someone upstairs. They sure don't run to the sound and try to kick in the door. If this was a " gang hit" they would have guns and not just hope they find knives.
