TUTORIAL: tea bag patterns ❤ easy DIY ❤ get great backgrounds for collaging!

  • [ENG] This technique was created by sheer coincidence, more precisely an accident. I'll show you how you can create great patterns on your tea bags in no time at all! All you need is a bit of watercolor, a silicone tablecloth and of course tea bags - water and a heat gun/hair dryer. With the results you can then design great tags or journaling cards or use them for collages.
I turned those tea bags into some digital printable paper:

You can also get them as digital stamps/overlays:

I have many of those doily's and no place for them so now I know I can use them for stencils to create more beautiful things. Thank you so much. I didn't want to cut the doily's because they are so beautiful, but now that I know I can stencil with them I won't mind so much.

I started playing with tea bags. I love it. I drew a baobab tree in ink onto one. My formula was 1/4cup pva glue, 1 tbsp. Water, use silicone matt or other, put layer glue, tea bag, and glue on top. Let dry or use heat gun. My result was a more stiff tea bag. Then i advanced to napkins, 1 ply and 2 ply used, then a silk layer or cheese cloth layer. With the napkins, i wanted a more defined image so tried a 2 ply napkin. I just love the end results. Im not an artist, but this satisfies my need to be creative. The images are delicate when wet. But a solid plastic, even foldable , end result. I sometimes use 3 or four tea bags attached.if layer a bit on top each other, will see the double. Cheese cloth gives a courser result under the image. And is visable.take care. Enjoy crafting. I use a layer of mixture on top of each layer. I love your videos, as well as 49dragonflies.

I just came across this video, what a fun idea. I have lots of tea bags saved and will try this. I also want to caution you on the use of a heat gun with the green mat below. I don't think you get it hot enough while drying your projects but this mat can WARP with high heat. Just be careful. (Note: I left mine in the truck of my car once for a few days during the summer and when I realized it was there....too late....it had wrapped badly and wasn't useable for cutting fabrics anymore. I was able to cut some of it up and got several tiny 5x7 mats from it and had to toss the rest. Once it warps....it is ruined and you can't make it flat again. Just be aware of this.
