- Hiring freezes are a clear step before layoffs start happening, and we're starting to see those.
If you are part of the current round of layoffs, or have been impacted, how can you address this when asked about it in an interview.
In this video I will walk you through my strategy for how I would approach answering this question if asked directly about in an interview.

I got laid off for the first time in my life 3 months ago and it was hard! But I've been honest about it in every interview and given the nature of this economy, everyone has been super understanding. I even got to a final round of interviews at Amazon while still being honest about it. I think it's better than saying "I was uninterested after 5 months with the company" and definitely a last in, first out downsizing hit.
Love the video but the random videos inserted break the focus in such long form content. Shouldnt feel like shorts imho
The minute that is asked I silently gather my stuff and leave. Why!? Because that employer is likely to get sued and i won't be working there.
Being asked why you left your last job is a legal question.
@@InterviewAt Not where I live, It's illegal. The previous employer can only disclose that I worked there from a to z. They cannot disclose my reason for leaving. They also cannot disclose how much I was paid either.
Now it might be different where your at, but that's the law in California,
Under California law, an employer is not obligated to provide a reference for a former employee, but should it choose to do so, the employer may provide information about job performance, qualifications, and eligibility for rehire and that's all they can disclose. If they disclose you were terminated they can be sued for Defamation.
Why does anyone need to watch interview videos anymore? The ONLY good thing about 2022 is that jobs need employees more than employees need the employer.
There's some truth to this Jesse, but I think business conditions are starting to shift.
@@InterviewAt For paper pushers things are changing. Skilled labor on the other hand is only becoming more in demand. The beautiful irony is those people who had to learn actual skills growing up are now the most in demand people in the country. Of course this was extremely easy to foresee, yet the view was unpopular so it was under reported.
Because the useless that's who make the hiring decisions will keep acting like it's 2010 until the company goes under, because they liked 2010
