Hey Willie! I’ve got the same colour it’s stunning. Had mine about 6 months. No changes yet and it’s packed up for winter now. Might add some angled bar risers but think that’s it. The main problem is I don’t want to get it dirty so the winter bike is out😳

Hi Willie couldn’t agree more on the negativity and great you called it out ! I’m a similar height 6’4” and was reviewing your previous vlogs on the XSR700. You seemed to like that and had great plans I couldn’t find why you sold it on to your buddy ? Was size an issue … isn’t it always .. I know Can’t stretch yet to the z900 but XSR Ticks a lot of boxes Hope to have a look at it in Birmingham at the weekend but would welcome your input Based in Cork Ireland and struggling to find a test XSR locally Look after yourself
Hi Rory, so I LOVED the XSR700, so much fun to ride and that CP2 engine is amazing, ergonomically it was fine ,didn't feel cramped at all but the bike is very skinny so always felt too big for it (being tall yourself you'll know what I mean!) Only sold it as I really wanted to own the Yamaha Niken! However my friend that bought the XSR700 didn't love it, he didn't like the fact that you had to work the engine to get the best out of it (he came from an inline 4 bike) but for me it was an amazing bike, looks so good too imo...hopefully u can try one out buddy, I bet you love it! Thanks for the comments 👍
Hi Willie you’re right about the mirrors. You can see everything clearly behind you. No elbows, shoulders or blurred vision in them at all. Best mirrors I’ve ever had on a bike. As for the throttle being snatchy. Every bike I’ve owned has had a snatchy throttle at some level. It’s not any worse than any of my previous bikes. The fast idle is annoying, specially early in the mornings. I regularly start work very early and it does put me off using the bike for work as I don’t want to upset my neighbours!
Hi Ray, yes the SE yellowball has the gold wheels, gold forks, ohlins and Brembo brakes...but the SE yellowball is Black and Yellow not Green and yellow... the original Z1 yellowball was Green and yellow like mine 😃
The tick over from cold is quite normal! My old Kawasaki fours used to do that back in the days of carburettors and choke. You have a perfect retro id say! 😂
I think the engine idling at 2000 rpm when starting from cold is the modern equivalent of the choke. Something to do with a rich fuel mixture needed on a cold engine until it warms up.
It's only because stupid EU regulation. And the choke from early bikes could be regulated manually. With the new you have no chance to change manually. I had the same nerving thing on my RS and also I have on my stupid Euro 6 car......
@@gerrit555 Any engine would struggle to tick over when cold on a lean mixture. If you were to push the choke back in on any old cold bike or car engine, it would just cut out if you tried to rev it to pull away.
Hi Willie…. Great to see that you are still loving the RS, it is a lovely bike. Did the bike photo collage survive the house move? I could not see it on your garage wall.
Hi Ddle, thanks buddy, the photos all survived but the board didn't! I will redo the board at some point though but at the moment there isn't much wall space
Regarding fitting the extender..... I would get a piece of sandpiper and scuff the part around those sticky pads, create a bit of a key for the silicone. I'd also do remove the fender and do the same with the back of the it where the fender extender is going to stick to. Clean with panel wipe or brake cleaner before fitting. Silicone around the existing sticky pads, and use them to hold the extender in place while the silicone cures.
Hopefully you’re back on the mend Big Willie. Just a pity am at the very opposite side of the Scale 5 foot not a lot, and 27 inch inside leg.😂 The big is looking real good. Thought you kicked the bucket there……😂 Best wishes 😊
Ignore the negativity Willie and thanks very much for the great videos 👍🏻 I bought a z650rs this year as my first bike at 51. I love the look of the 900 version too. Have you ridden the cafe model?
Hi Willy it nice to see you're better I wondered what happened here's a thought could the high reving in the beginning be a system like an automatic choke for cold starts?
Yeah it's the 3.8 6 cylinder with 145312.2 miles on it they last forever I know. That's her baby I've heard of people getting 200000 out of them. Nice old peoples' car cause we're both old on the inside lol.
@jaysinhoffner2134 I got a 2002 Holden Ute with a 3.8 V6 it is the last model using the 3.8 V6.It's a Ute which is sort of like what you call a small Truck with 6ft tray.Ute have a 1 piece body so tray isn't separate. The Ford Ute has 2 piece body that tray is seperate. Holden did a V6 Super Charged version but are rare & only came out in the Sedan version. The Vy V6 Supercharged motor will bolt straight up into my car if find one at a Holden Wreckers if it a VS or VX Supercharged model have to switch the loom over as the VY version used a different ECU.Thought about buying a wrecked VS,VX,VY & switching the Supercharged motor & trans over to my ute & give the Supercharged motor new pistons & rings & different pulleys on supercharger while out of car & chuck a intercooler in.Could go turbocharged but would need to rebuild motor with low comp pistons as my motor done 181000km(113000miles) & could handle about 8psi of boost but risky could blow stock motor & pay to rebuild motor to suit turbo. Then got back into bikes again 🏍 & ran out of money🤣.
Hi willie how much does the remap cost, I had an original z1 lookalike seat on mine as well , what about a 4 into 4 system or a centre stand. That's the only negative.
The remap was £400 ... The place who did it are called "more moto" and are actually in our village so it worked out perfect 👌 4 into 4 would be nice but don't plan on spending any more cash on accessories tbh
I've got an original z1a in green and yellow, was looking at a z900rs in same colour as went from a 900rs to the z1a and now thinking of going back to a 900rs , can't make my mind up.

Ohhhhhh! You've placed an order!!! I'm excited for you buddy!!! Initially My favourite colour was the black and chrome but have to say it's now the colour you've ordered! Looks the most "classic " imo ...its going to be a long few months!! Bet u can't wait!!
right , lets make a start , -- as for the illness , i as well feel like sh---te , know how you feel.. , the chrome rail on the back is 100 percent , no doubt about that , next - the colour is growing on me at a great rate ;; the 2000 rev start up is quite low , some are 3000 , this is acting as an autochoke to richen the fuel mix , as you know modern motors are leaned down for new regs , so motors have more revs and fuel to stop stalling when cold , lastly -make sure you use a maintenance charger - NOT a trickle charger as a constant charge will slowly boil your battery dry ;;;
What’s not to like about the Kawasaki old school looks wrapped in a new bike that doesn’t drop oil everywhere win win happy days I’m glad you’re feeling better Willie what do you get for for a second bike hmmmmm after your summery of the z that’s a Tuffy 👍
didnt have to watch the vid to answer your question - of course it is! I still love my Z650RS (despite it's flaws) after 2 years and 2700 miles - went out on it today and it was just great and so much fun.
I’m glad your enjoying the lovely bike , don’t worry about the high tick over when cold my Z1000st 1979 did the same , I always found it ran better if I let warm up before riding it . Listening to your tick over its great , its just normal for Kawasaki 😊
Hiya Willie 👋. My ZZR1400 is exactly the same on cold start up. I fire it up & by the time my ear plugs are in, helmet fastened & gloves are on, it's settled to normal tickover & l'm ready to go. As ever, enjoyed the vlog. Regards, Mo 😊👍.
Hi Willie, just embrace the cold start character of the Z900RS . Its not too perfect thats one more thing to love. I live in Germany and got mine a week ago. I am feeling very happy just like you.
In a market saturated with retros from various manufacturers, the Z really stands out and is arguably the cream of the crop. Regarding the high tickover, it may be connected to emissions regulations, specifically the catalytic converter. Catalysts only work efficiently when they reach their operating temperature. A high tickover might be used to enable the cat to reach that temperature as soon as possible. Normally, with a remap, you can also change all sorts of non-fuelling aspects of the ECU, e.g. when the fan switches on or when the rev-limiter kicks in. You could probably also have your cold start tickover speed reprogrammed if you wanted.
Mate, question is, what are the new neighbours like? Also, couldn't help but notice you have your own personal satnav tattooed on the back of your hand!
Another great video thanks Willie and I hope you are feeling a lot better after your ordeal (you have been missed). The S&T Garden is looking good and I love the way it gives you privacy from the tree and ivy. I think you are so right about your attitude when it comes to talking about other TH-camrs bickering, life is too short for all that nonsense. The Z900RS is looking stunning as ever and I love the modifications you have added to the bike. During your video I couldn't help but notice your walking shoes and wanted to know what make and model they are and if they are any good? I have always bought Merrell Moab 3 GORE-TEX walking shoes but have found lately they do not last as long as they used too.
Thanks for the comments Will, appreciate the kind words buddy 👍 my shoes were off of ebay about 5 years ago, I only bought them cos they did a size 50EU ! No brand name on them I'm afraid! Cheap and cheerful!!
I wouldn't worry about it Willie. I heard an S1000XR start up from cold at Matlock Bath. I reckon with the initial tickover as high as that was you'd be doing 40mph just by letting the clutch out. I know it's not really necessary to warm up modern bikes before riding off (in fact it's recommended that you don't), it's still best to at least wait until the tickover comes down to normal idle before riding off 👍
I think most bikes with such engines start this way. I had a Honda CB1000R (4-cylinder) that did this and my present Ducati V2S also. You're in good company 😉!
I have a BMW M1000R and it does the same thing i agree a bit of a pain i have been told its so the CATs warm up obviously to help emissions but does make for a clunky gear selection!
I forgot to say love your bike and did nearly buy one but after a test ride hated the snatcheness of the throttle totally turned me off the bike even though it had been a dream bike since the late 70s didn’t know there was a remap does it not affect the warranty?
Initial fast tickover just after start up is something many bikes do. It's to heat up the catalytic convertor quickly to get it doing its job. Cars do it as well for the same reason. It's actually not a good idea to start up a bike (or car) unless you intend to ride it. The engine will remain cold and you'll get condensation forming internally leading to internal corrosion and oil dilution. Even if you run it for quite a long time this will happen - only riding it, making the engine work hard, will get the core temperature and oil up to working temperature where condensation will simply boil off. Vince C
I hope you're feeling better. I'm a fan of bikes from the fifties and sixties but I'm prepared to stick my neck out far enough to say that your bike looks pretty good for a 21st century model. I wish you many miles of pleasant riding. You were quite right about the video from the Mindful Motorcyclist and Suzie.
My W800 revs quite high also when it is cold. Fact of life on modern fuel injected machines. I also wish the foot pegs were a little further forward for less bend in my 70 year old knees and hips. Other than that I love the W. The Z900RS would certainly be in my garage if I were 15 or 20 years younger. I do like the calm throb of the 360 degree twin and how it has such good low end torque which makes it a joy to ride in traffic but still has just enough power for other uses such as four lane highways. It wouldn't compete with the Z900RS but I don't need it to.
@@2wheeledwillie395 I think the W800 is a sweet machine but I fear you might find it a touch tight for you 6'4" frame. I'm 5'11" and find certain things a bit tighter than I would like but at my age I don't want a bigger, faster, heavier more spacious machine.
Lots of people going down with the dreaded lurgi mate glad your feeling better and glad the Z9 is doing the business, look forward to your views on the RE Bear will 👍
As I said before, the high tickover from cold was present on the original Zeds. I have owned an original Z650 and Z750, as well as an Eliminator 900, which had a GPZ engine. They all did the same.
If you need to be under way before the revs drop back when engine cold I simply roll the throttle forward ( beyond the stop ) to select first gear and again whilst slow maneuvering or at junction at end of my road . Revs are always at normal tickover before I enter roundabout further up the road . It's less bothersome ( if any) than reaching for the carb mounted chock knob on my old 1990 GT750 . I've not experienced jerky throttle on my 2018 rs but I have got a juddery clutch as I move off that I have yet to get to the bottom of its cause ?
I remember reading that when these run high at idle that by twisting the throttle forward, just a pressure against the stop apparently can reset the throttle body, haven’t tried it myself as i don’t yet have a z900 rs but who knows.

I love the V2S so I'll take that Ed!!
I have a BMW M1000R and it does the same thing i agree a bit of a pain i have been told its so the CATs warm up obviously to help emissions but does make for a clunky gear selection!
Cheers Crozzy 👍
I forgot to say love your bike and did nearly buy one but after a test ride hated the snatcheness of the throttle totally turned me off the bike even though it had been a dream bike since the late 70s didn’t know there was a remap does it not affect the warranty?
@crozzy28 The remap changes this bike beyond belief bud... its debatable re the warranty but either way the risk is definitely worth taking imo 👍

Amazing! Great comments thanks Vince 👍
Definitely clutching at straws Willie, that bike is a real stunner. The negative isn’t negative
Thanks Andrew 👌
I hope you're feeling better. I'm a fan of bikes from the fifties and sixties but I'm prepared to stick my neck out far enough to say that your bike looks pretty good for a 21st century model. I wish you many miles of pleasant riding. You were quite right about the video from the Mindful Motorcyclist and Suzie.
Thanks Will! 👍
Thanks Bob, the W800 is a great looking bike for sure 👍
@@2wheeledwillie395 Cheers Willie.
@@2wheeledwillie395 I think the W800 is a sweet machine but I fear you might find it a touch tight for you 6'4" frame. I'm 5'11" and find certain things a bit tighter than I would like but at my age I don't want a bigger, faster, heavier more spacious machine.
Lots of people going down with the dreaded lurgi mate glad your feeling better and glad the Z9 is doing the business, look forward to your views on the RE Bear will 👍
Thanks so much Pete 🙏
Automatic choke. It's normal to idle high when cold with Automatic choke.
Bike is looking good Willie.Put trellis up along fence line.
Thanks RR 👌
I had a 1980 Z1 1000 Classic,,fuel injected.A great road machine.
Nice!!! 😍
As I said before, the high tickover from cold was present on the original Zeds. I have owned an original Z650 and Z750, as well as an Eliminator 900, which had a GPZ engine. They all did the same.
Thanks buddy 👍
I’ve really missed you! No gardening tips for at least a week.
😂😂😂😂😂 Thanks Pete! 👍
Bought this bike over Triumph ST because of the larger size and passenger comfort. A lot of bikes are too small for anyone taller than 5 foot 10.
100% it's a joy to find a bike (that isn't an adventure bike) that fits!!
The biggest obvious negative to me, is that I haven't got one 😁😁👍👍.
😂😂😂😂😂👍
If you need to be under way before the revs drop back when engine cold I simply roll the throttle forward ( beyond the stop ) to select first gear and again whilst slow maneuvering or at junction at end of my road . Revs are always at normal tickover before I enter roundabout further up the road . It's less bothersome ( if any) than reaching for the carb mounted chock knob on my old 1990 GT750 . I've not experienced jerky throttle on my 2018 rs but I have got a juddery clutch as I move off that I have yet to get to the bottom of its cause ?
Great 👍 thanks buddy
I remember reading that when these run high at idle that by twisting the throttle forward, just a pressure against the stop apparently can reset the throttle body, haven’t tried it myself as i don’t yet have a z900 rs but who knows.
I did actually try that Paul and it does work but it bothers me so little that I let it run 👍
Kwaks 4 cyl models have traditionally idled on the high side.
Cheers BB 👍
my Kwakas from the seventies all had a high idle... f*ck the neighbors 😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂
