The COVID pandemic did not make it easier to create lovely cockpit movies for our community. With anyone but the operating crew being banned from flying on cargo planes and with the MD-11F fleet being permanently retiring from service at Lufthansa Cargo in October 2021, Captain Axel, Senior First Officer Günter and First Officer Simon stepped up and took the lead for the creation of this fantastic movie about one of LH's last MD-11Fs just before their permanent retirement. The routing Frankfurt - New York JFK - Frankfurt marks the last ever rotation of an LH Cargo MD-11F and so these fascinating three aviators decided to take you on a stunning trip from Germany to NY on their beloved threeholer just before it would have been too late. Enjoy super fun professionals and lots of stories about their beloved aircraft!
For all filming conducted in security restricted and/ or safety relevant areas, all required approvals are obtained well before our on-site work starts. Calls to and readbacks from ATC are re-enacted based on memory and outside of the actual communication.

Not often when one gets the chance to ride along for an entire flight! This was great. My favorite moment was the clip of the Captain's wife filming the flyover of their home. To watch the contrail and simultaneously know exactly what was going on in the cockpit and who the pilots were was very nice! Well done.

Axel, Günter and Simon made me look up Lufthansa I never knew this before but they are based out of Germany. Then it all made sense, of course German precision! That's how it's done right. It's been an honor to watch thank you. At first I thought these pilots we're wasting their talent with cargo. They're so great they should be flying people. But then it dawned on me these pilots have the world by the tail. Only piloting!
The MD-11 is one of, if not the most beautiful aircraft in my opinion. Great crew!

Just superb! What I found to be very unique is the pilot's wife's video footage of the aircraft and the contrails. This has to be the magic moment. I mean, what are the odds that you are piloting a commercial plane and you happen to be flying over your own house!
My dad retired from the DC-10-30 CF. I worked for same airline in maintenance, and spent many hours sitting behind the Capt. seat enjoy the picture window view of the world. What he describes about that window is true - spectacular. I left Commercial aviation in 1982, and missed a hard life of multiple layoffs & furloughs and having to start at the bottom of another seniority list. But my dad had a wonderful career, literally just 20 hrs as an F/O on a DC-8 before transitioning to Capt. I probably would have had to wait 20 years to transition to the left seat.
But if you love to fly NOW is probably one of the best times in my lifetime to move into airline flying. American is going to hire 2000 pilots next year - my generation is aging out.

Great crew. Great aircraft. I still occasionally see a MD-11 FedEx flight fly over my home at 5000 ft, on approach to Newark Liberty airport.
I am so happy that this video showed up in my TH-cam suggestions. As the wife of a retired Flight Test Engineer (the ground type) I am very interested in aviation. The enthusiasm of the flight crew and spectacular videography (photography has been my passion for at least 60 years) made this video one of the best I've ever seen. End of 2021, close to post-pandemic: It is SO nice to have full proof that our Cockpit Aviation Teams are just as Professional, dedicated and NORMAL now, after such a world experience as the 2020-2021 Pandemic; just as they were in what we considered as the normal pre-Pandemic period. It is nice to feel the world can still come back and get on with life as before... even in some of the most precise types of working environments as Airline Piloting. Thank you for such an experience, it felt just as if we were invited into the cockpit for a transatlantic crossing. What a privilege... even if it is only into our head!

It's a DC-10. I'll forever call that plane a DC-10! You wonderful pilots can call that plane a MD-11. But I say DC-10 because I'm old!. Thankyou for posting this. It's a wonderful video to watch. Especially for us "aviation enthusiasts".

My first program @ McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) - I remember having customer meetings and some of the crusty DC-10 captains hated the automation, as well as taking the Flight Engineer out of the equation..."I need the First Officer looking for traffic, not playing with a damn computer!" It's still makes me chuckle after all these years. She's a beautiful airplane.

Thanks for the wonderful video. MD11 Cockpit is great with the spacious Windows! I have good memories of a Swissair MD11 Jumpseat Rotation in 1997 to KIX and back to ZRH (with a good friend) And a lot of memories of my father in the 1980‘s when I could visit him in the DC10 Cockpit:-)
What a brilliant aircraft, and demo of the flaps slats was icing on the cake. What a magnificent beast this was during her times and still is. We had an MD10 flying under FedEx and sadly it was retired and replaced with a 767 (still a beautiful bird).
This is my first Air-Clips video view and I am already hooked big time. What a fantastic production and a "public service". I was searching about the last Cargo flight of MD-11 when I came across the channel and will be forever thankful for this content.
I really loved seeing this! I was incredibly fortunate to fly on 3 of the last 10 or so MD-11s in the LH Cargo fleet in the summer of 2019. It was an amazing experience and this video brings back all the feelings on that trip. Thank you!

I finally found out who the Austrian is. The earlier flights he was in plain clothes. I thought he was the cameraman. It's good to see that they all communicate during the flight for all situations. Makes me feel safer when I fly. Even as human cargo.

*How sad, we are seeing the end of the Mad Dogs: these were **_great_** planes (speaking as a commuting passenger who has more than a million miles on Mad Dogs from 80 to 11)! What made these so great were the pilots. Something's weird about Mad Dog pilots: they treated these aircraft like they were little sports cars, and as a passenger, it was a blast!*

They had to change the rules to make these planes irrelevant... ETOPS that is.
There's an attachment you develop when around a certain aircraft for a period of time. Especially for those that have the airplane bug. I will forever miss those planes i grew up with, and their sizes and sounds they made. The magic in the air will be gone forever now that they are gone. They were unique and nothing will be like them. Unless blended wind body jets come out, unique planes are gone.

One of the first flights I remember as a child was on a Continental Airlines DC-10 back in the '70s. What a great aircraft!

Lufthansa cargo I have new respect for your organization, hearing of your charity work for the underprivileged children of Nairobi. We are only as good as our team & the Captain requesting 100% teamwork so that no one did anything without discussing with everyone. I enjoyed this so very much. I used to travel from Portland Oregon to Pensacola Florida on the Delta Airlines MD-11. My dad would always look to see what aircraft I was on and he was always relieved when it was the MD11…I wish I could’ve been on this flight. Brought back lots of memories and was very educational. What a wonderful crew…very professional and friendly🌸🥰🌸
