I was attracted to living in a picturesque area, of which Bulgaria has many, but as I am a pensioner I chose to be in a village near to Veliko Tarnovo to be near to medical facilities, and above all, flat. I also decided to make my own site " Pensioner Prepper" because I saw the crisis was on the way and wanted to show that Prepping is easy even on a modest income.
Bulgaria is definitely the place to be. Learn from the locals, they are old hands at it.

Hard for me as a single one, but I’m managing it here in Bulgaria! Your partner will be able to find a job for a second just because he speak English even in a call Center (not massive salary, but still secure job)

The moment you utter a Bulgarian word you become one of us!
Beware of the power of Rakia. As you start trying to speak Bulgarian, you are surely going to be invited to a dinner and subsequently try out the local Dqdo's (grandpa) homemade Rakia. Your head won't hurt, but getting drunk is a sure thing!
Anyways, welcome to Bulgaria, may your days be pleasant and healthy!
Fun fact: Saying hello in Bulgarian (Zdravey - "Здравей") literally means "Be healthy"!
Also another cool thing: If you want to start a garden - ask the local Baba (grandma) for some local seeds (as a worst case scenario she will reffer you to someone or to a specific sort). Local tomatoes literally taste better than honey and they are cultivated specifically for the region! I sure can't wait to seed my own garden and eat some real tomatoes, not those plastic-like-tasting that they sell in the supermarket! And don't be shy or pass up on the tip, you will make the Baba's day by asking her about those things!

Rakia, from the village still seen many an expat return home from over consumption. Less so these days with the strict new alcohol laws that prohibit unlimited distillation. Welcome to the Eu. And not to forget the home made red wine, супер!

The power is coming from water dams, atomic power plant, yes some huge coal power plants as well but many solar and wind farms as well. Good choice of Bulgaria, I moved to Bulgaria last March after 6 years in the UK and one year in USA. I bought flat in Varna for like a week I came for holiday in 2021 for 2 weeks and the second week I decided I wanna move back here so it happen xd easily I found job with English (home office) if you interested can explain u in private so the life here is bit more slow but more calm. Hope you like it and I hope you will make a small British colony here ❤ much love from the Bulgarian east coast guys!

Great Video, We are currently in the process of buying a property in Yunets a small village between Varna and Burgas that needs a bit of TLC, Not as much as yours mind! We are also looking at alternative sources for power and heating, and we have enough land to be "semi" self sufficient so will be following your story with interest! Lived in Spain for 12 years and currently living in turkey so used to being an Expat! Are you currently living in the van? We thought about buying a small caravan to live in until the house is habitable and also for security.

We are a family of Brits living in Malaysia. Now admittedly we live in a gated community on a new estate with all mod cons with a communal swimming pool, gym etc. for far less than we could in the UK and it's always sunny. But, even so. Our rent for the year is more than you paid for your property. We are seriously considering coming to Bulgaria while we still have some finances left. What's the visa situation for Brits? (If you have done a video on that please post a link, I will be looking through your videos but it would help). Many thanks for an informative vlog and good luck for the future.

Thanks for such an informative vlog. Love that you put in a cheeky offer and it got accepted. It is mad the cost of houses in the UK compared to Bulgaria.
I have been watching Alternative Living Bulgaria's vlogs. Trying to get a remote feel for the place.
Bulgaria looks stunning, it is the language that concerns me. Trying to get things sorted when I would probably struggle to remember the words for hello and thank you.
You said that you bought the property as a company, but what about a visa to live in Bulgaria. Is that part of you setting up a company?
Clearly as you said your family thought you were mad for buing in Bulgaria, they don't live out there. Did you know anyone in the country before you moved there?
Sorry it is starting to turn into an interogation!
Have a great week, hope the weather is still being kind to you, blowing a gale here in Wales. Emma

Hi Emma thanks for your comment. No we didn’t know anyone out here before we came. We are firm believers in jumping both feet in and finding our way from there haha. We’ve met some wonderful people out here already though which we are very proud to call friends. Unfortunately residency is a totally different ball game to buying a property out here, we will at some point be doing a video on this though. The language is tricky but far from impossible, again immersing yourself in it means you can pick up a fair bit. Oh and don’t worry we had thunder lightning and rain today haha.

Two sisters inherit a property with land from their dad and the asking price is 15,000 levs. Why make a "cheeky" offer. We do not have any hidden savings or other income streams. I understand how this could have been misinterpreted. We have the utmost respect for the previous owners and have met them again since purchasing the land. ❤️

I'm from the Netherlands but lived in the UK for 25 years and I know how absolutely appalling the housing situation is for ordinary, hard working people. Sadly, it's rapidly going the same way in the Netherlands.
I just want future buyers who go to countries like Bulgaria to at least consider if the asking price of the property they're interested in is fair and reasonable. If it is pay it. If you don't have the money yet come back later when you do.
Having said all this: I am happy you got the property and a chance to have the kind of life you were looking for.
