Great video! These are some very important steps to really improve your driving ability. Consistency is definitely a product of seat time, basic fundamentals and technique. There's so much to manage in your head, especially on endurance races. I always make sure to review my progress in instant replay every now and again when I hit that .500 - .250 variance between laps. It's very important to look for your mistakes/areas where you can improve. I can push this corner more, I should brake earlier here, track limits are more lenient here, etc. For me, it's at this point where I begin to tune the car.

Your going to make a mistake every fee laps that loses you all the time you gained pushing compared to 95%. In a race consistency is the most important thing

  • @keisuketakahasi4584

    tire saving:
    - turning in earlier and more gentle
    - no under/oversteer
    - dont accelerate too much going out of the corner
    fuel saving:
    - you still go full throttle on the straight, not 70%, too much time loss otherwise and probably overtaken since its easiest to pass someone on a straight especially when he dosent go full throttle
    - lift&coast (or leanest setting) before a big breaking zone and/or short shift
    - depending on the corner, car, etc. but you can use 1 gear higher, avoiding 1st gear can save a lot
    - SLIPSTREAM! can save a lot of fuel. you can shift earlier and dont have to accelerate as much to get the same speed.
race pace usually depends on how much you need to save of what, your concentration, driving skill and so on

    I'm a pure endurance driver.
As my mind is completely free, I never control it, so most of the time I'm thinking about anything I bear in mind, and I race like an AI, following a precise pattern. Of course I still react to what happens on the track (mistakes, other drivers, car behaviour ...). It's only when battling that I don't think about anything, completely focused on the fight. Most of the time, it's very handy, unless I think about something which will smow me down, like calculations, but that's pretty rare.
With this method I can be flowing for a few corners. But I can manage my race pace only in very specific tracks and cars combinations, or when my mind let me to be focused. For sure I can let go when I'm not in danger, but not with a laptime aim.

the way to corner well and improve time is to stay patient, use in corners slow in and fast out to maintain the pace and improve the time, it will also reduce the tire wear. Also the way to improve is first to warm up by driving calmly and savin' your mental strength so when you feel you got hand of this then try to increase the pace every time with 10%. Try to break early on corners if you don't want to end in a sand or a wall, but if you wanna be risky and improve even more so I suggest to brake bit late but it usually leads to the wall. My tactics is to improve time to race calmly 1-2 laps and then increasing the momentum and being more aggressive and taking risks, therefore I also do late braking really often and it pushes me to the lead or improves my time

    One question:
If you drive "slower" like at 85% to save tires, are the tires gonna get colder also? I imagine the answer is yes because you are putting less stress on them.

    • @viperconcept
      @viperconcept  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Generally not. Going at 85% means going generally just 3 or 4 seconds solwer than your full potential. So, you're still going fast enough to keep them warm.
It depends on the track temperature, on the track conformation, on the car you're driving and on tyres compound.

Remember when Schumacher got told he had to make three "qualifiying lap times" in the middle of a race to be able to hit the sweet spot strategy wise? (which he did, with almost the same time in every lap)
Qualifying is the 110%, race is 95% - it's only that our 110% are as crap as a race pilot's 50%.

Viper, when do i have to change gear, when the lights get's red or before hitting the rpm limit? (when not saving fuel)

    • @viperconcept
      @viperconcept  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It depends on the power curve of the engine. Some engine have the power peak close to the rev limiter (then you upshift close to the rev limiter), while other cars have the power peak at medium-high rpm (in that case you have to upshift a bit earlier). Watch the power curve and you'll know when you have to shift.

brownboy25 honestly things like that happen mostly when you’re out of practice
Not sim racing related, but in speed cubing, if you stop practicing, say, for a week and then come back at it again, you will be basically averaging times 10 seconds slower than before you stopped. You lose some of that automatism without practice... practice more, and you’ll regain it.

This is only applicable if you were using STEERING WHEEL since it will required delicate control and applying throttle and brake more precise.
What happened if rest of them using controller??? That will be much harder to do it since braking and throttling in controller always leaves you with tapping buttons for better control.
The timer gap for consistent driving will be bigger e.g. for steering wheel will have gaps about 0.5 secs on entire race, meanwhile for controller usually have gaps about 2 secs at max due inconsistency on braking and throttling at corners.
I didnt mean to say that your lessons bad, but not everybody were using steering wheel as driving simulations since majority will using controller due room space and cleaning it after using will be pain in ass.
Hope you will understand what I mean in general since I always driving with controller and my pace is on 90% average, except for tracks with many long straights I always got careless on tire managements due late braking or early braking which cost me time.

Your 85% is different than my 85%.
The percentage is referred to your own skills level and to your efforts.

@@viperconcept Yeah I know, but how can you increase that % or skill level? With more and more practise?

      They're 2 different things:
      1) It's easy to increase *your % of race pace* according to your current skills: simply try to reach your limit.
      2) Increasing your *skills level* is way harder: that means increasing your limits, and yes, you need more and more practice.
