Very nice result. Not all the restorations can or should be perfect unless you change everything. What is the point of that. The watch tells a story and it will be a good conversation piece. Thanks.
I'm watching this video....I love to watch anyone performing their craft, whether it is someone sewing, as my beautiful mother did for more than 50 years, or someone applying their makeup, or a watchman repairing a Must de Cartier Tank. I have a question...my MUST de Cartier Tank has severely discolored due to oxidation. Is there any way that the color, which I know is only gold-plated, can be restored? Currently it is so black due to the oxidation. The mechanism has also stopped, so the watch needs a brand new battery .
Thank you for the nice comment. The watch can be gold plated again like I did in the video. The mechanism can be fixed by just changing the battery if it is a quartz movement. You can go on my website if you want me to service your watch
“I don’t know what happened to the movement” (in giving the benefit of the doubt French accent) As I would say, some Scrupulousssssss Dude swapped it out long ago (In HB accent) 😂 Love your channel mate 💪🏻💪🏻
I love mine, I just wish this watch has some water resistance or at least a gasket. I have to be extra cautious with water related activities as simple as a hand wash when I have it on
Well, you got it running, and produced a good result, so congratulations on that! But the whole restoration kinda makes me sad, you got a Must Tank but it had a Franken movement, so buy a new movement. Gold plating solutions are expensive, the dial and hands are still damaged, so even though you got the job done, was it worth it? If the object was to learn gold plating then obviously yes! I just feel a little sad for restorers who put all that work in and the end result is less than ideal (unless you can find a replacement dial and hands out there!)
The watch is for my wife. She is very happy with the end result. I found the dial very unique and nice. If you want a vintage watch that looks like a new one is better to buy a new watch. My goal is never to restore a watch that looks like a new one but one that keep its characters and its history. Everyone is different but this the way I like vintage watches.
As soon as I saw the movement was unoriginal I would have stopped right there. Looks like a cheap (by comparison) eta movement. Cartier does use eta based movements in some of their watches but to a much higher standard than this.
The eta movement between the pagol and the cartier is exactly the same. The cartier obviously as you can see has a cartier brand on it and the decoration is different
I had one of these in with a rusted out movement. I purchased a movement on line and transferred the necessary parts into the cleaned up rusty movement main plate and wheel bridges. I can't understand why people just replace the movement like this when the most important parts of the main watch, even if it's just the balance cock, wheel and barrel bridges, can be salvaged to give the watch the look of originality.
It’s great that you were able to find a carrier movement and you replaced it! Excellent video as always! ❤
Thanks Eddy
Perfect I’m sure your wife will be very happy with this little Watch. Keep well from NZ
Cheers Bruce
First video I’ve watched of yours love the way you talk about every aspect of the watch amazing video
Thank you so much
Another phenomenal restoration
Thank you
“So far, so good, yeah” 😂 Love your work!
Glad you enjoy it!
You do a lot of great videos. It is a pleasure to support your work.
Thank you Tim
Tres bon vidio bon explication travail de profitionel merci
Merci beaucoup
Amazing video
Thank you
very nice vintage piece....well done...you should visit the Rikketik fair in the Netherlands on october the 2nd, all about vintage watches
Haha funny because I am in the Netherlands right now.
In House movements are a relatively new thing so I'm not surprised to see an ETA movement, it doesn't detract from the watch.
I agree with you but I find it better to have the right eta movement in the watch. Doesn't change anything timing wise but it is more genuine
@@FrenchWatchCollector Agree 100% as the movement that was in it was a lesser grade movement. Great job, the dial actually looks good as it is.
I like the dial too. Thanks for the nice comment
唯一的遗憾就是三色金的表盘沒有进一步复原。
请问是很难修复受损情况吗❓
Sourcing that dial is mission impossible
Probably you can find it but I like it like this. It makes it unique and it tells a story

I agree 100% but after some people preferred fully restored watches

"That's not cool, thats not fresh."
😉
Thank you very much. Your comment is probably closer to the reality 😉
Superbe vidéo pourrais tu expliquer comment tu refais les plaquage or ? Continue comme ça bravo 👏🏻
Le plaquage information est dans la vidéo. Je ferai une vidéo en français plus tard
Normally tank cartier is silver 925,need to change dial n set hands
It is Silver 925 with a gold plated layer.
the color its a little different, have you probed other quimicals for gold plating?
The original plating was faded so you could see the silver case. This is why it looked a bit greyish first and fully gold at the end
I love mine, I just wish this watch has some water resistance or at least a gasket. I have to be extra cautious with water related activities as simple as a hand wash when I have it on
Yes for sure you need to be careful with this type of watch
@16:49 still some rust there.

Horrified that’s the rust was left on the mechanism parts 😱😭😭😭😭 soak in rust-away, then wash…….then reassemble 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
True that I missed some little spots and under the macro lens it is unforgivable
i have also a vintage watch... pasha de cartier limited edition maybe you are interested to buy
Thank you so much but I am not really interested to buy watches

@@FrenchWatchCollector thanks for clarity maybe that why the owner was happy to put that movement in.
@@MichaelWilliams-mo1vv I think he was happy like you said but I prefer to have the real one inside. This why I changed it
Not for sale now that u know it. Only for wearing😂
Change the dial, pointless doing it otherwise
I prefer to keep it as original and it makes it unique
