  • Did you know you need to prepare your steel nib before writing with it? In this How To video, Ashley shows the most foolproof way to prep your steel nib for writing. Whether you plan to use a steel nib for calligraphy, drawing, or writing, it's important to prep the nib for the best experience with ink. If you just got a steel nib dip pen for the first time (or if you've struggled to successfully write with a dip pen in the past), we hope you'll find this video helpful. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Ashley...this was the first video of yours that I came across after searching for long for the problem I was facing with my dip pens ...the broader nibs weren't working and after washing it for the first time it started working but at intervals...then I washed it again and after little practice it started working...thanks a lot for helping 😊😊💕💕💕💕💕💕

    Save silica humidity control sacks or capsules and throw them into the container you store you nibs in, especially if you are going to put them away for a bit.

    What a tood tip, Ashley! I had used alcohol before, but I'll try the dish soap option too 🙂

    I've heard using a lighter to "burn" the oil off the nib works too. What are your thoughts on that method? I've never tried it because I don't want to ruin my nibs lol

    Storing the dried nib in mineral oil jar sounds plausible.

    What can I do when my nib holds the ink fine, except right after a dip, it leaves too much of ink on paper, but not nearly as much as you showed here and then it writes alright

    • @Yoseka
      @Yoseka  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you may just need to run off the excess ink from the initial dip on the edge of the bottle as you would when you dip a spoon into some liquid to prevent it from dripping!

    Thanks, Ashley! Some people say to get the oil off the nib by pushing it into a raw potato, but I've never tried that. 🤔

    • @TremblyChap

      The raw potato method works great!

      I've also heard of the potato method, but never tried it myself! I think it was originally used to remove rust from steel nibs, but if it works for removing the oil too I would love to know how it goes! - Ashley
