hi jimmy, i like the kenda bb and have used it fr and rear . also noticed the cupping on the front which definitely shortened the life of the tire . I'm now using the kenda on the rear and a shinko adventure trail 804 on the front which looks identical to the k bb but has not cupped . using hd tubes. I'm a 90/10 dirt to pave rider [africa twin] in the continental divide region of co, lots of rocks. cheers

Great video Jimmy. Are you running tubes in the tires? What tire pressure do you usually run for hard off-road? I Just bought a 17 1090 on eBay, fully tricked out. So I'm trying to learn everything I can about them. I'm gonna race some desert races on it. Thanks for the great info.

I have a 950. It has narrower rims, built by Woodys. I run the Kenda BBs. Where I live, we have what you call chip and seal roads, it tears up tires. I run the BBs as they work fine, and they are not too expensive. My favorite offroad tire is the Dunlop 908s, but big money.

Great video! With the narrower rims are you also running a narrower tire than stock? Tubed or tubeless? Interesting that you run the stock suspension. I think the standard suspension settings are great for street riding and make the bike very stable, but I felt it could be softer off-road, particularly the fork, when riding slower, rough stuff. Where do you run your settings compared to standard?
    Thanks!

I basically run it in stock clicker position with maximum spring preload. I click in compression as the oil wears and when I'm about 5-8 clicks in it is time for a service (like it is right now!) If your adventure bike is bottoming out, you are pushing it too hard. Any adventure bike, especially KTMs. I for sure do not find it too stiff in the front. Make sure you bleed the air from the forks.

I just got a 1090 shock for my 1190. I am super stoked to see how it feels. I was never happy with the 1190 shock. I feel like its sweet spot is small and always needs messing for different conditions. I am hoping I really feel the PDS system.

Hey Jimmy, can I just say your point about using a narrower rim is echoed by our very own off road Jedi, Birchy, here in NZ. Cheers

Would you recommend the older bikes (950/990) or are the newer bikes the way to go?

Do you have the ABS dongle, recommend it?

Great review. I just put a deposit down on a 790r and am trying to decide on a GPS. I have it narrowed down between the Trail Tech Voyager Pro and the Garmin 680 T. Any downside to the Voyager? Can it be used on the road when needed? Thanks Jimmy!

The Trail Tech works anywhere in the world, even on the road. See the review on it at www.dirtbiketest.com It is all explained there.

Hey Jimmy, you had said that you purchased the Adventure FLEXX bar in a 14 sweep, but I only see a 15 degree available. Did you just get the 14 regular bar or woefully misspoke? Haha. Anyway, I have been looking at those for some time and was hoping that perhaps they could resolve my hands going numb after a long day off-road on my GS Rallye. Looking forward to your response.

I run a 14 degree Enduro on one and a 14 degree enduro low on the bike with the standard BRP mount. The sweep and height are very personal so I suggest some research on your part as to what you are looking to accomplish. The BMW, if I recall is swept back like 16 degrees stock. I run a 15 degree bar on my GSA.

      Dirt Bike Test, thanks Jimmy.
I will give them a call. I, just as I think you mentioned, have to ride tarmac for a bit before getting to the good stuff, but also have some long rides coming up and don't want to be real uncomfortable. Thanks a lot.

Hi Jimmy, I am assuming you are running tubeless tires. I ride or my bikes of choice are the KTM EXC 500-F And a 2020 KTM 790 Adventure-R. The only Knobbie tire I have found for the wide rear rim that comes on the 790 is made buy Goldentire. I have yet to find rim locks that fit on the wider rear rim on the 790. Any suggestions or should I stay tubeless and use a less aggressive dual sport tire on the rear of this powerhouse KTM Twin. Thanks James Fuller

I run tubes in my less wide wheels. No rim locks though.

This particular skid plate comes with a detachable hickory handle so you can use it as a snow shovel if you manage to get stuck in a blizzard.

Really Great video that offered a lot of insight. I just bought a 2018 1090 and am in absolute awe of the capabilities. Just got done doing 2500 miles camping all over Alaska and Canada with some pretty good of road. That being said I'm trying not to go to crazy with mods but I have done a lot of the initial stuff, Paniers, skid plate, top rack, etc. I'm curious what you thin about exhaust since I noticed you didn't mention the upgrade. I really want to do the intake from Rottweiler but am also interested in opening her up to here that V twin sing. Waste of money? Also the pegs are driving me crazy since I am having a hard time finding exactly what I want. I just know I need something different.
