  • I purchased the 2017 KTM 1090 Adventure R recently and was immediately impressed by the bike. However like most adventure bikes it required a build to make it what I wanted it to be for longer trips and off-road riding.

So far I have about 900 miles on the KTM and have many multi-day trips starting in another month when the weather breaks. From gravel roads to trails, I'm looking forward to racking up the miles on this bike.
There are still a few more upgrades that I already have planned. A more comfortable or heated seat along with the aftermarket exhaust. These will push the bike north almost to $20k if I do add them all. The KTM 1090 is not cheap by any means but it is an amazing motorcycle that puts a huge smile on your face every time you ride it.
The bike is very well balanced, smooth power delivery and with these upgrades extremely capable in most conditions.

Are you able to take the tank shroud off with the gas cap ring in place?

No. This is definitely a drawback to it, but the opening in the tank cover is only large enough to clear the cap itself. So anytime you're servicing you do have to remove it. Great question thanks for asking it.

It was expensive even when I bought it, but worth it given how well it works and how well Integrated it is. I’m sure just the shipping alone has gone up significantly. Best of luck if you do get it I think you’ll love it

@@homeblt congrats you’ll be pleased. Works flawlessly just don’t let the mess of wires scare you when you open the box. Everything is really straight forward once you get in there.

It works extremely well and I can even testify to its durability after the water crossing that went wrong. The control unit was completely submerged and some water pretty much got in everywhere. Even after that it still works exactly like it did, which to me is a huge testament to how good this unit is.

Do you have the part no for the KTM 12V accessory socket that you installed? I'm picking up my new '18 1090 next week and will be needing that along with many of the other things you've done as well. Thanks in advance!

When wiring up your 12v outlet and gps did you run the gps and the 12v to acc1 or acc2

I don't recall which is which off the top of my head. But one of those two is keyed and the other is constant. They are also different amps. So if memory serves me correctly the one that is higher amps is the constant power and that is what I used for the 12V. Then the lower amp and keyed ignition one is the one I used for the GPS. But it has been a while.
