    Baja 1000 champion Jimmy Lewis and Paul Guillien of Touratech-USA spent some quality time riding the new KTM 1090 Adventure R during the 2017 Touratech Rally in Washington State. They definitely had some thoughts regarding all aspects of this new entry from KTM and they share them freely.
    This video is cool because you get the perspective of a world champion dual-sport rider and an experienced adv rider. They have different riding styles and each has a clear view of the bike.

    Waiting on upper crash bars for the 2017: KTM 1290 Super Adventure 'R' .., Please tell me that those upper crash bars in this video are just a prototype - and the actual bars you will be selling are going to have a stronger and better looking fixing system than those silver attachment plates that have been slapped on to these bars in the video ?

    I would like to see a revised 950/990. They should bring that bike back.

    The 1090’s .7 less trail over the 1190 is the main contributor to a lighter steering feel.

    I love this video! Awesome! As a side note, any semi competent off road suspension shop can re-valve your front and rear suspension for less money and give you the optimal custom initial settings front and rear. Since the 1090 is throttle by wire, it could have had cruise control if they wanted. KTM missed the boat by not having a powerparts Cruise control readily available.

      Agreed 100% on the cruise control!

      I am buying the 1290 for the cruise control , Cops in Australia are strict like pedantic Nazis . They will nab you about $300 for going 1 km over the speed limit, and 3 strikes you lose you licence .
      For me cruise control on the highway will be the only thing to save me. Cops argue it's all for about safety which is BS, it's just a rip off revenue raising venture for them and nothing more, in fact the cops make it more dangerous in Australia as "there is nothing safe about spending more time staring and concentrating more on your speedo" than you do on your riding your bike and looking out for hazards..., while worrying about cops booking you for the tiniest pedantic breaches.

      nasty little bobbies (durty rotten coppers), here in california and the western USA we use radar detectors and haul serious ass (and get away with it)!

      cops in oz 'll confiscate your bike and lock you up if they caught you with one of those in oz , they were outlawed 20 or 30years ago in Oz

      Inattention is the main cause of collisions unless the newbie does something stupid like far exceeding his experience threshold w/o training.

    I like everything about my 1090..... except... 1) when i dropped my bike in the dirt, its lays flat as a pancake, too heavy to lift by myself. 2) engine heat coming up by thigh

    5-6% of initial bite... yeah ... like you'd feel that ... on the contrary - the 1090s motor was designed to have better low end power delivery whilst being less explosive in high revs.

    Good stuff. I have a 2015 1190R and love it. My question is regarding the narrow handlebars that come on these bikes. Any recommendations on a specific make & model # on a wider set of bars from someone like Pro Taper? I think another 2" wider on the bars would make a big difference.

    The 1190r has very good power (and yes I am a hoolagan on the street), my next one will be a 1290r. My only complaint is there is quite a bit of wobble at 110mph+, even with the scott steering stabilizer on max (moves the bars up and forward and helps when standing up offroad). The front springs were grossly inadiquite in the dirt, added the heaver springs when I replaced the blown front shock seal (at 3k miles) and it greatly helped, however the front end bobbs at low speeds (35mph).

      KC's tyres, here today gone tomorrow, rear brake fad after hard use is not abnormal. Love everything about the bile except the price.

      Thats just mean not all men/machines are created equal. Some people should be allowed to go faster than others, just because they know how to drive, and you know those dirty rotten coppers are the others!!!

      I have slow speed bounce in the front and high speed wobble at 90+. Heat is a real issue in Florida. It is a furnace.

    Good job guys. I am looking at a 2018 1090R and am wondering about the reliability of these. Heard reports of fuel pump failures, electrical gremlins, and starting issues. Any issues you have heard of in the long run? thx

    • @TouratechUSA
      @TouratechUSA  ปีที่แล้ว

      I"m not super familiar with long term issues on the 1090R but I know it has proven to be more long-term reliable than the 990 and 1190. With regular service and limited off-road abuse the 1090 should last a long time. It could be the 950 owner in me but fuel pumps, and other failures are "wear items" in my opinion.

  • @keithmills40
    @keithmills40 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does anyone know how the reliability is on the 1090r ?

    Guess which one needs to work on their two-way communication skills? Constant over talking and interruptions....

      ...maybe, but unlike a lot of people, when he does interrupt he’s actually adding value, he makes a lot of good points and provides better information having interrupted...that counts for something

      Easily if you have traction.

    • @dillonmech7206

      not without turning off the traction control, at least for the 1190r model.
