Parents candid reaction to coming out

  • I found comfort and courage in watching others coming out, so to pay it forward here’s mine.
If you're progressing through your own coming out journey, you're not alone, there are countless communities in all shapes and sizes that will accept you with open arms.
Coming out can often feel overwhelming, my experience demonstrates it might not be as daunting as you can fear. However for some, it can take time for your loved ones to process, but they will come to their senses eventually. So just bite the bullet and godspeed!
Oh and if you know me and you didn't know I was gay... Surprise! :p

I wish my parents reacted this way, my mother screamed at me then pulled me to her room and locked me in their and I was on my knees and she yelled and preached about god and hell and my sins. I was so scared and shocked I am still traumatized this was last October and I live with my dad now but I wish I had my moms support like this it hurts me everyday when I think about it. I'm happy for you though you have a loving family who accepts you.

Don't ever believe for one second that you are doing something wrong/bad because of your sexuality. I am so happy that you came out to who you truly are, I really hope your mom comes around and sees that you are doing no wrong. I am bisexual and I have yet to come out to my parents. They are both homophobic but hopefully they will still see me as their daughter that they love :) Just remember, if someone tells you that you are not aloud to like the same gender as you then they don't need to be in your life weighing you down.

    Re the "short door!
If the house was built earlier the late 1800s , people were much shorter then, and room and door height were shorter aswell. Today, the standard ceiling height is 8 feet and doors 7 feet high
Back then, ceilings were 7 foot high and doors 6 foot, especially in farm houses and country cottages.
What a lucky boy he is, to have loving parents, who have such open minds.
mom's reaction was "are you suspended" haha!
I've heard other moms say "did you get a girl pregnant? ??"
    His mom knew better! Haha

I've been out to friends and my very very close family members for a long time (8 years ago was my first coming out to my sis), and today I just came out to my little brother of 15 years. I thought I would have been very confident knowing I'm secure with who I am, but when I was telling him, I kept going round about and finally told him after like 30 mins. I was very anxious! This came onto my YT feed today (15th Oct 2022) so I thought it was new. Nope, 9 years old. That was so sweet Rich, bless you. ''It's not a big shock'' 😊 I see your Telegram and Twitter accounts are now defunct, so I do hope you are doing well in your life. All the best.

I have two things to say about this video the first one is I love that bedroom door it must be a very old and beautiful house. the second thing I have to say is your parents are kind and loving people. I wish there were more of them out there like your loving parents

my parents are loving to me all the time but they are Indian they do not know what homosexuality means And I am gay so how to tell them but my all sister support me no matter what they are with me !
I know a lot of doors like that ! well we used to live in house where doors were like this only so I did like the was quite boring I lived in village never ever lived in city part of the country so these things are common to me I am assuming that he lives in Rural part of UK because in UK they have different doors they do not have like these doors
that is quite amazing that village are also quite acceptance of their LGBT people this prove that UK is quite gay - friendly

The one thing I hate about coming out videos is the fear you can see in the person as they are coming out. Like how you were sitting across the room when you told them. Kept them kinda far like two arms length away instead of being close to them like parents and children are used to. It’s the same for os many others and I wish it wasn’t such a big deal. I wish I could take everyone’s fear in that moment and give them the courage of a thousand Greek gods to be who they are and own it. Yep, that’s it. I love you and I’m so proud of you.

That's really heartwarming. Wish my parents had accepted me like that. Different time different views. I basically devorced my familly for 2 years and told them get over it. It's all about me and not their feelings of acceptance. Sometimes good or bad you have to take a stand and claim who you are. Living a lie just isn't worth the effort.

I really never got to share this experience with my parents. I was kind of forced to come out, which wasn't her intent... but she asked, and as a confused teen in high school I just cried. I was forced to say yes. Now she feels obligated to tell everyone, and it makes me sad that I never got to share something like this with her. Though she supports me, which is a blessing, I wish she would've let me come to terms with myself before I told her.

So awesome to see parents of that generation (I'm 47) that aren't stuck in the old prejudice ways of the past. Compassion and love for creatures has no place for conditions.

Funny how everyone's saying your door is cool, when *all* the doors in my place are the exact door and I find them terribly repetitive and mundane. :( That big skeleton key makes quite the thunder when it falls to the wood floor.

Wow.. some people's lives are so easy.
Im happy that you wont have to worry about university expenses or being kicked out of your home. I am really glad. Whenever people have this kind of experience It makes me eyes wet. You know if only every mom and dad were like dad not so many of us would be killing themselves. With parental support every adversity is literally nothing.

This is so sweet!!! Every parent should react this way. I used to think I was bi, and when my best friend's mum found out, she almost never let my friend and I see each other again because she thought we were dating. We spent a whole night crying together and I was terrified that I would never see her again, simply because her mum knew I thought I was bi.
Also when I thought I was bi, I promise myself I would never tell my parents because honestly I'd be too scared of their reaction (they're very strict Christian Republicans).
Praise the Lord it turns out I'm asexual, so I don't need to come out to them at all.
I wish all parents were as supportive as yours.
