I was 16, went to this concert with my late friend who used to bring me recorded rock cassettes from San Antonio to our small town. 40 years ago but can seem like yesterday. Great time and memories.
A mention also to David Rosenthal, keyboardist who has worked & played with too many to mention as well as playing keys & sound engineer with Billy Joel's band for the past 30 yrs...the man is a legendary genius !
Same. Since I was a child I always had great taste in music like my dad. I got this cassette as a child. Still love to hear this band. You can literally just let it roll from start to end with rainbow. 💙💙🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
I play this song, " I Surrender", " Stargazer" & many Rainbow songs to this day!! My wife is a kindergarten teacher, her fellow teachers heard her sing " Stone cold" in school the other day.
Nobody ever mentions the drummer.. and bass player. These 2 guys are so underrated..if it wasn't for Bobby's Rondinelli awesome drum technique, this song might not sound so awesome. With that bass line...I never realized that Bobby Rondinelli played drums on so many of my favorite bands.. he just comes in and lays it down really well and low key..just flies away under the radar..so underrated. I heard people say he is not that outgoing or possibly very friendly. To be honest, we should only concern ourselves with his music abilities and the music he puts out.🙋🏻🙋🏻
Joe... Such an effortlessly pure voice. Blackmore may have been one of the leading guitarists but he just lost the plot when you and he parted ways. Great to see you still on stages in 2019. Best wishes fella.
I think I repeated myself, but I find myself watching these videos that I sooo wish I couldve gone to these concerts . Rainbow, Joe Lynn Turner was Rainbow to me.
damn, I remember going to this concert at the convention center, Rainbow, Saxon and Riot for like 15.00.......what a deal it was going to concerts back then...and what a great concert it was too,.....that Bobby Rondinelli drum solo was awesome.....
I SAW THIS BAND PERFORM IN THE 80'S RANBOW SAN ANTONIO * I WAS THERE * HemisFair Arena Demolished June, 1995. Also known as Convention Center Arena I bought many of their albums! concert August 18, 1982 IN SAN ANTONIO. Saxon opened the show. LATER SHOWN ON MTV I WAS THERE IN THE FRONT ROW WEARING WHITE SHIRT WITH BLACK SLEEVES
If you want to know what quality, straight-ahead, arena-style live rock was like in the early to mid eighties, this is the clip of Rainbow's Stone Cold is for you. Such solid singing and muscisanship! I love at the end the way the bassist, Roger Glover, applauds back to the crowd.
What a sound a vocalist and the number 1 guitarist in the World I'm a fan since deep purple and rainbow...didn't know Mr.Blackmore til I bought the vinyl Perfect Strangers 1984 then The greatest heavy metal vocalist DIO,and him as the guitarist in Rainbow YOU are still the Best the most Prolific guitarist...
No auto tune or computers all talent. How far music has fallen. Oh the good ole days!

Every night I have the same old dream 'bout you and me and what's in between So many changes, so many lies Try to run, try to hide From everything that I feel inside But I can't escape you or your frozen eyes... Searching in the darkness Fading out of sight Love was here and gone like a thief in the night... Stone Cold... And I thought I knew you so well Stone Cold Can't break away from your spell Another dark and empty night If I was wrong I wanna make it right But you are so distant, so far away Your words like ice fall on the ground Breaking the silence without a sound Oh familiar strangers with nothing to say Searching in the darkness Fading out of sight Love was here and gone like a thief in the night... Stone Cold... And I thought I knew you so well... Stone Cold Can't break away from your spell... You leave me Stone Cold Searching in the darkness Fading out of sight Love was here and gone like a thief in the night... Stone Cold... And I thought I knew you so well Stone Cold Can't break away from your spell You're Stone Cold...yeah I can't break away from your spell Stone Cold...baby I thought I knew you so well You're stone cold...ice cold Can't break away from your spell (you put me in the deep freeze) (oh baby don't you leave me) (stone...cold, your leavin' me cold) Stone Cold...I thought I knew you so well Stone Cold...Can't break away from your spell repeat til fade
Ritchie certainly picked great singers for rainbow, graham bonnet still doing it wonderfully on stage, superfit guy, ronnie, joe, even liked doogie singing rainbow songs, and ronnie romero, does a great job. Love to all rock fans❤❤
Big mistake on Ritchies part to break up this line up, I was the tail end (In big numbers) to know and love Rainbow (once again in big numbers that could support a tour and album sales) I was born in late 67' and graduated in 86' And i assure you that barely anyone behind me was talking about Rainbow very much, The tail end of us 80s kids love Rainbow, And were big Joe Lynn Turner fans.
No Rainbow was eclipsed by a ton of people despite the big names in the band. Richie was always going to known for Deep Purple and that's the end of that.
San Antonio knows how to rock. I've lived there all my life and I'm 57. Saw Ritche and Deep Purple in '71. Sweathog. So many groups at the old Joe Freeman Collisum and the Municipal Auditorium before it burned down. Summers at Sunken Gardens where rock Gods like Carlos Santana and great California rock acts played. Saw Head East with Van Halen in 1975 for $4 bucks. Oh, the good old days when money didn't mean that much shit to those guys before Pepsi and Coke.
Oh so 1982! I was 21 and loved this song. Nice band: Rondinelli, Airey, Hughes, Turner...Blackmore flip/flop commercial....still love it, but going to Man on Silver Mountain...Highway Star...
40 years ago? damn, like a blink of an eye ... man, am I old... love this song and loved most of 1982!
Omg i love this band. I miss the 80s and 90s. Music today SUCKS.

Yes, he is a genius 👏

Me too ..when rock music ruled and musicians played their own parts
If only!!!Rock n roll!!!
You are NOT KIDDING !! They were amazing
To 70's 80's
Save me a seat...
One of the many bands I had the pleasure of lighting up...I was only 18 then, fresh outta Highschool...still on the road lighting bands up...😎🤘
My soon to be 43 year old baby remembers them. We watched a lot of MTV best generations
Joe Lynn Turner just absolutely destroys on this track. What pipes.
I like but it sounds so much much like purple without Ian
Sang rainbow songs miles better than purple songs, finyl vinyl is worth a listen,I think this version of stone cold is on there
Awesome pipes❤
My Favorite RAINBOW song!
🍻

I love to hear Joe sing..the best dang voice! He sounds jus as good live as he does on recordings! Awesome singer!

El bajista es ROGER GLOVER de DEEP PURPLE, un animal!!!
AWESOMENESS !! When you were a kid in the 80s this tied you into the seventies real nice.....
Well said... yeah this song, thus era, definitely tied the two decades together...
Joe Lynn Turner was my favorite front lead singer! Great song writer , singer, passionate !
This has always been my jam since a young age. Still loving it in 2021 🔥🎶🤘
Me too, love this one also. 🎉 I love the backing singers, too.
@@Fuxerzyep. Back again April 2024. Still loving this song & rainbow.
A Timeless song…❤ you always have to crank it up

To this day, a perfect song..
Love the homage to Deep Purple’s Child in Time.
Rainbow 88% deep purple
@@Le-bqnot quite… 40%, (2 members) lol. A closer one would be Whitesnake’s Ready & Willing album. It had (3 members) Coverdale, Paice and Lord.
Joe Lynn Turner is genius
San Antonio and Texas rock hard no doubt. Great crowd. Great video and much love from hard rock motor city Detroit.
Most excellent tune. It's been a fave of mine since it's debut on MTV
Turner is such an amazing singer...
Yess🎉
Always loved Joe. Great singer wrote lyrics about stuff I could relate to, stuff about adult life, not about snakes and wizards.
I was at this show 40 years ago in San Antonio had a blast wasn't aware they videotape it, 3rd row in front Ritchi Blackmore.
Why can't Rock & Roll groups now days (2022) look and sound as awesome as they did when I was a young adult in the early 80's?
damn, I remember going to this concert at the convention center, Rainbow, Saxon and Riot for like 15.00.......what a deal it was going to concerts back then...and what a great concert it was too,.....that Bobby Rondinelli drum solo was awesome.....
I was there too
How many could it hold ?
👊🏽🤘🏽
Hey man.. You got lucky
Bobby just texted me from Europe yesterday!
Simply a great song, and always will be.
Very beautiful with female backing vocals.

Se pudesse voltar e poder voltar a dançar como antes. Época doce maravilhosa.
I love that nod in the intro to Deep Purple with Child in Time. 👌🏻🤘🏻
Yep brings back memories of thunderbird lake south of Oklahoma City. 1982 . So many great parties. This song got me through some rough times.
gotta say, one of the best voices
О боже , он великолепен .
Какой красавчик .
Saw this line up at Ingleston, Edinburgh, Rose Tattoo opened for them. Great memories 🤘🤘🤘
Are you sure it wasn't still Don Airey on keys at Ingleston? '81?
Слушаю с удовольствием

Wherever would Jimi Hendrix be, if he were still Alive....
Rainbow is the world best hard rock band in the world.
One of the many Great Singers ever!!
They'd been around for quite a a while before they came out with this song, I was 22 that year and loved this song.

@@Mezcaleros-blues Right on! Rock and roll will never die, but it's always been a little bit sick.
The solo is what I look foward to with this tune.
no solo? man, this wasn't a great version but Joe sang it well and the keyboard intro was really cool. That harmonic minor run was monster.
It wasn't Woodstock old man, & you'd be LOST trying to tune Richies GUITAR 4 him!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lmao truth surge they don’t know their replying to a monster player. Love your covers man your a monster player
@@katstraub3447
Still one of his best leads. Not sure why he cut it.
Wet dream keyboard setup: Hammond, Oberheim OB-Xa, TWO MiniMoogs..................kickass.
any more covers soon?
I was at this show...
Great memories at the old Hemisfair arena🤘
THE BEST...
Can’t believe I had to wait 41 yrs to see this.
Ritchie Blackmore is the world best master Lead Guitarist in the world.
So good Rainbow love this and forever 1982
Rondinelli was and is a beast on the kit
Quality Sounds Live 👌 Great job All.cheers lio Galveston
An absolutely gorgeous man with a incredible voice love rainbow
I wish Blackmore would have brought Joe Lynn Turner back for his latest incarnation of 🌈
that would have cost ritchey $
@@violentshemp7776 he has a 3 million dollars wealth... I guess he could afford it
Joe blew it for himself by his actions.
Quite a Jon Lord-ish "Child in Time"-esque intro... however, great song on its own :)
it looks like David forgot in which band he's playing today:-)))
I thought the same!
Saw them and Saxon in 82 in Amarillo ! Great concert
what a presence !
2022 lives
Saw Ritchie and Deep Purple at Hemisfair Arena.....in '85...loudest band I have ever heard live.
I was there for straight between the eyes in San Antonio hemisfair Arena,.
I was also their first perfect strangers and hemisphere arena in San Antonio:-D
Man that was tight and clean
My buddy had a 2nd row, center seat right next to a camera. He was cool and let me sit there during Saxon. Kewl !

saintrochbob not Hughes but Roger Glover bassist
Also, it's David Rosenthal on the keyboards not Don Airey.
A fav song a cover band that I worked with played this to perfecton 🤘
