    VIDEO INTRODUCTION:
In this video, Think School explains how Engineering colleges have gone on to become business institutions rather than educational institutions.
What is at the center of their success parameters?
The welfare of students or Growth & Profits?

I am a professor in an engineering college, and unlikely, I had suggested students of final year to work over a problem society is facing, to which they had considered as an academic requirement and never thought of it as an opportunity to solve the problem. The reason today's third and last year students state is that either they are preparing for GATE or some other competitive exam which they think that it will make there lives.. But what they don't know is these exams don't make them, but to reveal them. If possible, make a video based on the this craze for which they are missing out on two important years of making themselves.

They have started everything in the jails (Schools) , we spend 10 hrs in schools and return home nearly 7.00 pm and we don't have any time to pause to see the meaning of life , and most of students are heard of sheep , they are going behind each other without knowing their purpose of life , and the end is so miserable 😥 The reason behind this is we aren't given enough time to think about us and making us to trust false beliefs. I always hear the one word in my school where i am studying at present "MARKS" but i think character is so important than marks.

In my final year as a mechatronics engineering student in Nigeria, I was very obsessed with solving a problem in agricultural sector through mechatronics application. On a long run, I observed that the engineering system only permits success even on existing project and not failure/success on a new innovative project because the lecturers see themselves from a loser POV and love to see their loser trait in students.
Thanks for all your sound and educative contents.

I don't know if this exists in other places but there is a system of buying engineering projects in Chennai and Kerala. My father strictly told me to do my own project during the final year of my btech. Me and my project partner being in mechanical engineering made a machine which removes coconut husk, cuts it into two halves, filters and collects the water.
When we demonstrated the project, it was disheartening to see the guys who bought and couldn't even explain the project getting the same marks as us. 4th year project is a tool to pump the grades too. I felt that it was a waste of time, effort and money.
After completing my masters and now completing 5 years of work, I realise that this was the best part of my BTech.
    Education is nothing without application.

AS AN ENGINEER (STILL PURSUING 😅) I THINK THE IDEA OF INCULSIONS OF THESE PROJECTS IN SYLLABUS WAS TO TEST THE SKILL SET OF THE STUDENTS WHICH IS COOL, BUT PROFESSORS ONLY GRADE THE PROJECTS ON THEIR END RESULTS huhh 😒, THEY DO NOT SEE THE PROCESS OF THE STUDENTS BUILDING IT AND THUS MAKING IT A MERE EXCUSE TO STUDENTS TO ctrl +c and ctrl +v THE PROJECTS FROM ONLINE SOURCES...THE STUDENTS ONLY NEED TO PRESENT IT IN A DECENT WAY AND THATS IT THEY GET GOOD GRADES...i think this is where the problem lies...

Example few IT companies give a damn to college professors who r looking for a change in IT industry.

Government Funded so, everyone can join
Meritocratic, so no caste, race or religion problem
People of all countries should be allowed to study here, provided they do something for India as well
Where the professors have to grow, or they will be fired(free market competition)

Nothing is wrong with Indian education system
Let me tell u...if education system had to be changed it would have been changed...but it continued
    Reason??
    Cause of population
In this population, we still have poverty...so governments goal is to atleast educate them and make them financially stable.....if they want to be some high class CEOs or manager they have to work on their own
Our system does what it is suppose to do....tend to quantity over quality
And why is it like this?! cause of population
Here many people want to first secure their lives and then start thinking
About things.....we have to first think that our country is a poor country
People dont have enough resources to invent something.....and because of huge population we cant focus on quality but quantity
And as u know India produces large number of engineers
And get job....and earn salaries, not very high but low,but atleast they earning

Umm the top Ivy League US colleges like Harvard and Yale are business institutions too. But they provide much better results than any colleges in the world. Indian colleges fail from both sides, they cant provide quality education, and yet they have no repercussions because govt doesn't allow private colleges autonomy nor is there any quality inspection. So there is no alternative for the majority of students in India to suck up to this broken system. It is an inefficient system in ruins and had it been private, would long have been out of business

There is one more important point
    Which everyone ignores
    Literally everyone
In school colleges importance is given to theory part not practical ,,
Reading this feels soo silly isn't it , oki let me give you an example,
Few years back we had computer subject in b.com and our lecturer taught us html which was basics of coding and no one knew that we were learning coding literally,, our fault was we didn't learn properly we didn't attend cls regularly but the mistake of our lecturer was there was not a single practical class with a computer , we wudve know wat we were learning, and the fun fact is our cls topper didn't even know that it was just a basics of coding,
Practical is more important than theory.
Practical is the best way to learn anything in a fastest way ,
If we can't apply a particular thing in our life to see how it works then only we should focus on theory....

  • @sujoybha
    @sujoybha 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Sorry brother but your solution will empower 1% of the students and confuse 90% of the students who anyways treat events and conferences as a way to chill away from college. There are serious structural issues with Engineering edication and there are ways to solve it though additional learning while in college.
Remember only a tiny minority will actually succeed in business or startups and most will end up into jobs.

One of our professors (selected as top scientist by stanford/harvard apparantly) gave us a lecture on how the new education policy will change the system. He then gave us an assignment which we had to complete by some deadline. Funny thing is he specifically asked us to do it ourselves or copy from internet or from each other, he doesn't care, just submit it on time. No matter how the policies change, documentation based evaluation is what our system remains fixated.

Managed to clear 1st year except for Mechanics and Maths. Got into 2nd year but still could'nt clear Mechanics (I always kept telling myself, why the hell Mechanics when I am in IT?)
Well 2nd year I got dropped out. Well, I was embarassed to the core that I let down my family, coz every penny for was hard earned (at one point I had suicidal thoughts). But here I am, travelled more than 10 countries, managed to buy a 1 bhk house, got married and just working on my dream start up..

Because of an inordinate and rigid emphasis on grades, our education system is training students to write and excel at exams. Education always looks to the past in order to preserve the past. It concerns itself with "what was and what is" as against "what could be". Curiosity, exploration and creativity ( hallmark of childhood) are systematically killed in schools. Analytical thinking , while necessary, isn't adequate to address problems in a world that's changing at unprecedented speed. Our pupils have become competent at breaking down a problem, identifying chains of cause and effect and describing it. An overwhelming majority of them use word "because" excessively. That's all there is. No encouragement for asking "why not" as it smacks of rebellion and challenge to status quo. Pity that "why not" has the seeds of creative new ideas. "Because" is descriptive - it cannot lead to new ideas. "Why not" is generative - it leads to new creation. High time we introduced Design from standard 8, as it can train pupils to leave aside the obvious and work toward non-standard, unconventional solutions.

I am a 12 student and i love engineering, but my parents don't like this diction because of unemployment among graduate's

    • @martian1804

Unemployment grads either lack skills as an engineer or lacks communication skills
If you are that much interested in engineering which incase means solving real problems then go for it
Or try to learn things from other sourse and internet

    Hi Ganesh,
I am a huge fan of yours for your deep insight of any topics,
    👍👍👍
    1. I have completed my engineering from Computer science background but you know what I really don't know about my subject.
    2. I got a cgpa of 8 but I don't know how I get it. I just know that I got a degree that just BE passed.
    3. In 3rd year 5th sem college placement training, again they are going with very small introduction of DB, C, Java, aptitude to get placement I have sit there to get placement in company. But you know what happens I didn't sit any placements not any single company. Why because I don't know what is engineering? That question I asked many times to myself. I have searched for books where I realised that I am not qualified for engineering.
    4. You know when I got to know about engineering subjects when I prepared for GATE, then I got real understanding how engineer thinks.
    5. You are telling right every engineering college is became a business. There aim is to get as many as admission and to make lots of money but not making student to realise his full potential. What students wants to do in life.
Atlast your book recommendation is very good, I have covered some books specially "Start with why" .
