    TIP: use ASC Refuelling Mode instead of Auto-Level which doesn't use Autopilot Reset but Toggles. It is vastly more precise especially allowing it to Trim where as the other does corrects any adjustments you make and yoyos up/down lots!
    As a bonus use Auto-Thrust too for Formation flying as well as obviously for Refuelling.

    As far as I know, in real world scenario, Russian pilots claimed that they also use Cobra maneuver to basically notch the incoming missile... don't know how it works, but it makes sense on theory 🤔 but I don't think is modeled in dcs

      It doesn't work by the very definition because during all very high AoA maneuvers, like i.e. cobra, plane doesn't change it's flight vector in relation to opponent's radar - only nose position. For the radar plane fly identically as before the maneuver. It can be useful in other situations thought, like forcing overshot.
      Cheers

      @@bazej1080 guess you are right. I can't find the video in which the pilot explains it. But it was something related with low speed threshold of the radars(if this is a thing). If the object is too slow the radar ignore it as an error. Don't know 😕 maybe I am talking bull**** but it is an interesting idea to check. Cheers

    Viewers should be advised there is less than accurate use of the word "stall" in this video. The stall point is the critical angle of attack. If a wing is actually stalled, increasing the AOA will not increase lift, it will reduce it.
    Low aspect ratio swept wings have a broad range of increasing buffet often without a clearly discernible stall break like a straight wing. If going past the AOA limiter increases lift it's because the limiter is set well below the critical angle of attack. I don't know specifics about the MiG-29, but there can be multiple reasons for normally restricting that AOA region in any given aircraft.

    • @waltergabriel5501
      @waltergabriel5501 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thing is that fighters in general, especially russian ones, have an incredible thrust to weight ratio, to the point that me and my friends jokingly call them "bricks with engines". So with that extra aoa, it shifts the thrust vector a little bit up, and even with less lift from the wing, it can start climbing up, building speed and losing aoa.

    • @gort8203
      @gort8203 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waltergabriel5501 I don't know what you are trying to say, which appears related to climbing rather than a discussion of when a wing is stalled, but modern fighters are hardly bricks and are very maneuverable.

  • @bazej1080
    @bazej1080 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Side note: MiG-29 is stable with conventional flight controls, but Su-27 is unstable with FBW computer control.
    Side note 2: To make very high AoA maneuver like cobra you need to fly very slow, 200-250 knots at most. If not you will do one of two: make loose ~40°-50°ish AoA maneuver or tear the jet apart and lose consciousness in a second.
    Cheers and thanks for the video.

      @@grimreapers You are welcome. By the way, there is also a version that can do much more than just that, but only because it's equipped with TVC (called "MiG-29 OVT"). Of course, with TVC even a steam locomotive would be able to perform all kinds of maneuvers, so that's not exactly an achievement. The Sukhoi's airframe, on the other hand, is quite a work of aerodynamic art, since not only it can go unstable and flip to around 120° AoA, after that the pressure center will shift downwards and revert the backflipping tendency. That's why maneuvers performed by Draken and MiG-21 cannot be truly considered "Cobras": the planes are always stable during those. Unlike them, Flanker undergoes the unstable/reverse-unstable cycle.

      Im pretty sure Cap has a vid about his setup, but iirc he's got one o' them pretty-penny Warthog HOTAS Thrustmasters ($300+)

      @@mpainter22 if you want to spend a bit then you can proceed with T16000m set with throttles and pedals, I found it to be an excellent starter for flight sims, it gives you that cockpit feeling with HOTAS config, but if you want to spend even less you can go for Logitech extreme 3D, that's got only the stick but its a sturdy one which usually lasts for an extended period. It all depends how much you are willing to spend, which indirectly depends on how much are you actually into real flight sim like DCS. Give it a thought if you feel you really can spend hours in DCS without getting bored then straight away you can go for the big setups. Anyways, I hope you enjoy your DCS world.
