  • Jim performs annual maintenance on the boat's Sail Pro 6 Engine by Tohatsu and explains why he likes the engine and does not change the water pump impeller himself.
Jim's Little Boat is dedicated to helping beginning sailors and providing a video reference for work on their own boats. There are more than 50 videos in the Jim's Little Boat archives of You Tube. While some of the videos are very specific to Catalina 22 sailboats, most are general and apply to all small mono-hull sailboats.
You can contact Jim directly: jslosson@aol.com

We have the Tohatsu Sailpro and the extra long shaft makes sailing so relaxing.
Heading out now (sunday 03-20-22) for a pre-frontal sail. Rain coming later today.
Hope to come down to Olympia later this summer.
Thanks again for all the great vids.
    Terry

Oly is a good spot to overnight. Great public docks. Stores and restaurants nearby. Message me on facebook or email and I will buy you a beer.

As usual, great video! Can an extension be added to the shaft to get the prop lower in the water, or do I have to buy another motor with extended shaft?

Just guessing here, but I think you could add the parts. The extension is bolt on and they probably sell a longer shaft. My other guess is that doing it that way will be expensive. Might be better to sell your and buy a new or lightly used.

How fast does it push Boot Strap?

4.5 knots at quarter throttle. Five with a little more fuel. Anything more that is just wasting gas.

How often do you change the impeller?

This is a very low hour engine. So I have the outboard shop do it every four years. I could do it myself, but I don't want the hassle of trying to hook up the control bar working through that little hole. I have the outboard shop do the tune-up every other year in case I miss something.

Lovin your vids Jim..been racing since I was 8 , now just acquired a 22' trailer sailer from a deceased estate that the owner (and builder) had started to renovate.. it is a Noelex 22, very popular down here in the 80's ..came with everything..8hp Yammy, 2 sets of sails, all fittings and rigging... Have to reinsert plate casing, lift and fit in swing plate (135 kg) , repaint and reattach fittings... looking forward to getting away for some adventures... Stay well. th-cam.com/video/LXSCOhAdRk4/w-d-xo.html

That is WAY too much carbon !! Your ether running with the choke part way on or, your air filter is sopping wet or extremely dirty !!

Anyone can change the impeller and thermostat. Buy the service manual. Not rocket science and no “pro needed….”

Agreed. I just don't want to spend my time looking in that little hole and trying to get the linkage hooked up. It would take me all day. Tanner does it in 15 minutes.
