Hey buddy I know this is a old video of yours and love all the new ones. Have just had to replace my bottom bracket on my voodoo bizango (same model as this one) and this video has really helped me so just wanted to say a massive thank you. Keep up the great videos Mike
Thanks very much for posting which BB set you got. I have the same bike and this saved me the headache of working out which one to order online. All fixed now, a very simple job with the right BB and tools. Thanks.
I have a 2016 Bizango which had a Shimano Octalink, very similar to the Sram Powerspline). It lasted about 6 months before it was toast. I went for Shimano Hollowtech II BB and new SLX cranks - it was a transformation in stiffness and nearly 3 years down the line no issues at all. I would recommend upgrading to a Sram DUB BB and new cranks for your bike as the Powerspline will inevitably go again - at least you will get another video out of it for TH-cam :)
I have also found the original BB to be pants and have swapped to hollow tech BB with shimano cranks. I found that any standard shimano twin ring hollowtech cranks will work well with a narrow wide ring fitted as they match the Boost chain line.
+Bike and Beyond, I just happened to look at my iPad and saw your vid! I've just bought a Bizango. I'm 53 and I did my research via MBR and they said best bike under £700. I cannot thank Halfords enough. Limited stock, Covid19 closures and none of that fazed Halfords. 1st bike was paint chipped, got to use that then they swapped it for a mint condition bike. Fab video, love the detail and thanks for the info of how to. Subscribed as well. Jbss7382

You're doing a great public service. I'm getting a voodoo bizango next week I'm sure I'll come across this problem at some point. It's good to know someone has these issues and where to find the right parts. Keep up good work 🤙
Nice video, I have had my Bizango for 6 weeks and just upgraded to the Ascend dropper 125mm, 800mm Nukeproof V2 bars and a Nukeproof mudguard. Great bikes and mine is complete now.....well maybe some new grips and saddle at sompoint. Keep it up mate.
Great video. One thing that I do not understand is how you unscrewed the bracket counter clockwise on the drive side. Just spent one hour trying to unscrew counter clockwise, only to find out that it was actually clockwise on the drive side.
why did you need the crank removal tool. When i take the m8 bolt out the crankarm my whole crank just pulls away and off the bottom bracket. PLs im in the process of finding a replacement crankbolt for mine as it snapped off a few weeks ago.
Excellent video! this has really helped me narrow down the items i need. How long did you have your bizango before this needed replacing? I've not had mine long but have now found an issue in this area after 300 miles of riding which is concerning i feel. i have also noticed that the teeth on the crank arm are looking shredded on the LHS so may be have to replace this at the same time. Did you also have this issue?
Hi, did you happen to look at which Sealed BB would fit this bike? I've wanted to change to a sealed due to me always riding in the rain but they have so many different numbers and sizes it's crazy! Thanks
Would you recommend getting the Bizango? I imagine the answer will be a resounding yes, i’m looking to get into mtb’ing and my budget is around £600, with the current situation however finding any stock is pretty much impossible, what sort of bikes do you recommend? Thanks.
Personally my budget was the same for cycle track and also trail centres, I found that it won most group tests of similar bikes, better spec for the moment and a decent air fork with rebound and lockout adjustment. Its like and nimble, rolls great over roots etc. I have just put a dropper post, wider riser bar on it and if it had Specialized or Whyte branding it would now be a £1k bike. Best value bike under £800 IMO.
Natty. What size frame are you looking for as I have a Mint condition 16inch frame Bizango for sale only a few months old and used on road twice! I’m from S.Wales.
Natty Hi Natty. Please check out the reviews in Mountain Bike Review. They did a fab review for different price brackets. Under £500 was the Cube 2; but you can't get any cos they are sold through Go Outdoors and they are all closed. Halfords do the Bizango, bet bike under £700 in MBR and and the Vitus was another price dependant winner. Do your research and it pays dividends. I love my Bizango. Just great. I just get pins and needles in my finger tips if I ride too long😳😆
Mines started clicking when I pedaled hard but thought nothing of it but it's gradually got worse.. now it's like a clunking sound everytime I pedal hard.. does this mean I need a new bottom bracket? I've checked the pedals and that doesn't seem to be the problem but I don't wanna spend money on all these tools if it's a simple fix... any advice would be appreciated
Clicks and clunks are so hard to diagnose. It is best to eliminate as much as you can. Pedals, cranks, chain, rear cassette etc. It might be worth giving the cranks and BB a wiggle to see if there is any play in there. That's usually a good sign that the BB needs replacing.
@@bikeandbeyond i have mate.. there's no play whatsoever in the pedals or crank or the bb.. but on the down stroke it knocks or clunks.. it's not the chain I don't think... if you're just cruising along pedalling it's fine but the minute you start going for it and put pressure on the pedals it's just clunk every rotation
The persuader lol I have one of them, but mine's a hammer lol I'm interested to know if you considered a sealed BB rather than replacing like for like & why you chose to go like for like?
I was looking to upgrade but a we went in to lockdown getting delivery was starting to cause a bit of a headache (It took 5 weeks to arrive in the end...dont ask). Originally I wanted to upgrade to a sealed BB and upgrade the cranks at the same time.
@@bikeandbeyond I understand, things can be a bit of a headache at the moment. My BB is the same, it's currently working fine. Is the only difference between that & a sealed one that a sealed should last longer? Thanks for your help 👍
Yeah it performs well on small jumps. I was looking at the Vitus when I got my Bizango. I think I went for the Bizango because I could test ride it, and found it felt good (where as I couldn't with the Vitus). To be honest one downside has been that I have found it difficult getting replacement parts for the Bizango. Halfords say one size and Voodoo say another. It has caused a few issues.
@@Y-J65 You would think so but no. I had to replace the bottom bracket and cranks. Halfords said that they don't do them. Shame really. You can get them elsewhere on the internet but you have to find the sizes etc yourself rather that them getting the right part for you.
Great video thanks ! You made fitting it look a breeze. Incidentally about how many miles did you get out of your bottom bracket before it needed replacing ?
Yeah it honestly wasn't too hard to fit. I am not sure about miles exactly, but I used 2-3 times per week (for the most part) for the last year. On everything from trails, to mountains, jumps, drops and enduro trails in all weathers. So I think it has held up pretty well to be honest. I wouldn't expect the 'average rider' to need to replace it for years.
My Sram powerspline 73mm- 118mm lasted just 3 months. The cups on the new sram replacement bb are almost plastic looking and of a lesser quality. To my knowledge they're the only bb to fit sram sx crankarms. I was looking for a sturdier longer lasting upgrade. ✌🏼
Hi from a recent subscriber, have you changed the Chain at all? or cassette? I was looking at upgrading my chain as it has stretched, it states SRAM NX 11 Speed chain which has 114 links, I see some 11 speeds have 118 or 120 links, would either of these work?
Hi, thanks for subscribing. I haven't made many changes to the drivetrain to be honest (most issues seem to be with the bottom bracket). I still have the same cassette, but I have replaced the chain a couple of times. I stuck with 114 because I wasn't sure if it would take take anything bigger. Be realistic, it’s a good bike but things wear out. BB IS £15.99 and easy to get. Chain needs replacing regularly and also wheel bearings need greasing. I’d be more concerned with wheel bearings. I’d also grease the headset whilst doing the bb. All these jobs are easy. Good video 👍
I have the same bike and my bottom bracket has failed after just 1 month, not really impressed with that performance. I'm going to replace it with an external BB, possibly go for the SRAM DUB with Sram GX Eagle Dub Boost Crankset.
