Would be really interested to know the cost of this service with parts versus buying the bike new again seeing as it is more budget/entry level. Great video as always!
@@andrewhayes7055 I was trying to do a rough estimate in my head: - cassette £25 - chain £15 - bottom br £15 - cables £20 - chainset £40 - jockey whls £10 - headset £30 - inner tubes £ 8 = £133 That's retail for 9 speed Shimano parts (FSA headset). If you want to go crazy on a bike, orange cable ends and jockey wheels would fit that bike well. Do you mount greased jokey wheels or ones with bearings?

I have the grey and neon yellow Voodoo Aizan from the same year. It's the XC bike, but I've heavily upgraded it to be more of an aggressive trail bike.
Amazing dedication and effort for a mid to low end bike. My Voodoo Bizango is 9 years old. Been servicing and replacing bits. But whole drivetrain now needs replacing which I have never done. And I want to change the 3x drivetrain to 1x ,but sure I'll get there with some help from youtube.
Always good to see another bike given a new life. My paper route bike back in the 70's was a Schwinn Sting Ray single speed coaster brake with banana seat. I would be curious as you do each of the restorations what the cost was in the end to the customer? Wishing you and yours the best in 2023, I know you will be bringing many bikes back to life in 2023.
See how you had to replace the chainrings and cassette, how much more would it have cost to update the drivetrain to 1x? I'd love to see you do this on a mountain bike.
Would it be possible to do a bit of a guide on the types/brands of grease which you use for different jobs? Starting to do more diy work and never sure about what grease to use and how to tell the difference between a light, medium, "premium" grease etc
We have done a guide. It’s slightly outdated production wise now but the information is all there. We’re actually working on an online store where you can purchase the greases, it’s a few months away but it’s in the works 🧡⚙️
Nine Yards of deterioration is a nice description of the state of this poor bicycle. I would have probably used a hand grenade to put it out of its misery, but with your experience and professionalism you worked your magic as always! ❤
And i appreciate, that the customer stretched the chain, which shows that he really liked the bike sometimes, before the maintenance issues got out of hand.
Tbh I had myself a bike in a similar state some time ago, before I started to rebuilt it myself, because it was always flat when I wanted to ride it and in the end it was only the cheap Dunlop valves which leaked, so I fully understand, that sometimes you can loose the enjoyment of your bike and a service like this can make a world of a difference!
I really love how much you salvage of a bike instead of replacing complete sets. I probably just would have changed the brakes for a new set including levers, new pads etc. but as you showed it was serviceable and why put it in the landfill if it‘s still working!
Thanks Benjamin glad you liked this one! Often bikes look far far worse than they necessarily are and they can always be brought back with a little work🧡⚙️
Great job on the rebuild! It takes a lot of talent and effort to bring a bike back to life. You are one of the most skilled mechanics I have ever witnessed in any industry. Also, as a watch collector, I can't help but notice that you appear to be wearing a Rolex a vintage 2-tone oysterquartz in most of your videos. Is this right? I also noticed you wearing a fantastic looking jump date watch in one of your videos; if so, what brand was it?
Learnt a lot from your vids mate , recently started rebuilding old bikes as a hobby loving it lol. Amazing video as always hope to own my own bike shop one day!
Question: I see a lot of relatively cheap bikes on your channel (where there have been some obvious compromises to spec). E.g. a MTB in this price bracket doesn't get the 1x treatment. I've noted that your customers almost never take the opportunity of replacing worn parts and spending a touch more $ for an upgrade. In this instance, I'd argue a Deore 1x10 with an 11-46 (or even Deore 11) would have cost barely any more (the cassettes would have been maybe 20 quid difference, 9sp and 10sp chains more about the same price, the Deore derailleur minus the cost of the labor to service the FD and RD (+ cost of replacement jockey wheels) maybe be another 10 quid vs the replacement Shimano square taper crank and BB's would have again been more or less the same price. The customer then gets a much better drivetrain (functionally for a MTB), with an actual increase in resale value and a decent chunk of weight dropped. Do you ever persuade customers to go this route?
Often these jobs are already on the limit of budget. Usually these bikes are needed as cheap as possible and as quick as possible so customers take the cheapest option we offer them🧡
Anti seize on the back of brake pads is a standard thing on cars, so it makes sense to do it on bikes as well. Such a good transformation. I hope the owner is now out and about on it regularly

Another superb service.! I do have one question: on the cable for the rear derailleur you didn’t use your standard cable length as a guide to cut it, or did I miss something 😎🇫🇮
We actually more often than not don’t use our cable guide. Most derailleurs are so close to the wheel the cables need cutting short to clear it. So we use the cable guide when we can but often cables need to be cut quite short🧡⚙️
Having watched you do some amazing restorations/servicing it just shows if you can spend a little time on your bike how different it can be. I don't think those Clark brakes were the ones it originally came with (sure they had base Shimano ones, or possibly Tektro). Did I see it right, were the pads metallic? No wonder they were squealing. Would the rotors be okay for metallic pads?
What kind of "super slip shifting cables" do you use? Is this a Shimano or something else? Love to watch your channel. You're doing great work. Cheers from Poland.
These aren’t shiamano these are a cable exclusive to our suppliers! Thanks for the love Thomas and sorry we couldn’t get you a great answer on that one🧡⚙️
Can you replace brake wire on shimano 105, without undoing bartape and other stuff? So can you just put it in shifter and that is it??? On rim brake bike
No drop of oil in the others before the cables go in? Is that because you state you use a tighter wound and slightly thinnner cable, so not as much chance of getting caught, rain damage? Lovely job indeed and great video to watch. Not sure I could re-assemble that bike with those pedals and seat left on though ;-) Appreciate both pedals and saddle 'work' but with all that effort and cleaning by yourself, to bring it back to life, I'd be insiting to the owner to replace them 🙂
I watched this as I have just bought one to commute on, but it needs a lot of work. What a great job you've done ! Mine needs just about everything youve done here. Where can I find parts that I know are correct? Thanks for the great content 👍

I don't think those Clark brakes were the ones it originally came with (sure they had base Shimano ones, or possibly Tektro). Did I see it right, were the pads metallic? No wonder they were squealing. Would the rotors be okay for metallic pads?
The Bantu does come with basic clarkes hydraulic brakes as standard, I upgraded mine to clarkes m2
What kind of "super slip shifting cables" do you use? Is this a Shimano or something else?
Love to watch your channel. You're doing great work. Cheers from Poland.
These aren’t shiamano these are a cable exclusive to our suppliers! Thanks for the love Thomas and sorry we couldn’t get you a great answer on that one🧡⚙️
very nice work. I hate to see a bike rusted and forgotten when it is so easy to rebuild it.
Thanks for watching!🧡
You did an amazing job Lee. It was very grim before you worked your magic on it. (Bit of a shame the customer didn't want a nice new saddle)
Thanks!🧡⚙️
Can you replace brake wire on shimano 105, without undoing bartape and other stuff? So can you just put it in shifter and that is it??? On rim brake bike
Fun to watch but makes me very glad to live in a dry environment (and i keep my bikes inside)
Lol yes the coastal weather can be brutal here 🧡
No drop of oil in the others before the cables go in? Is that because you state you use a tighter wound and slightly thinnner cable, so not as much chance of getting caught, rain damage?
Lovely job indeed and great video to watch. Not sure I could re-assemble that bike with those pedals and seat left on though ;-)
Appreciate both pedals and saddle 'work' but with all that effort and cleaning by yourself, to bring it back to life, I'd be insiting to the owner to replace them 🙂
Never needed to oil cables with these stainless steel ones! Thanks again🧡
Great job thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!🧡
How can look that in normal use, did he throw in lake when lost frisbee golf
how were the bearings in the wheels? didn't see you touch on those.
We actually adjusted the rear but the front was okay🧡⚙️
Nice Job, looks great!
Thanks Joseph!🧡

I watched this as I have just bought one to commute on, but it needs a lot of work. What a great job you've done ! Mine needs just about everything youve done here. Where can I find parts that I know are correct? Thanks for the great content 👍
