    I've been applying Cerave SA Cream for rough and bumpy skin to my legs every night to treat and prevent ingrown hairs, and it's worked wonders. I shave regularly, and it's completely gotten rid my ingrown's and new ones haven't come back. Highly recommend.

    IDK how often you read comments on old videos, but I wanted to tell you that, for a long time I have been a sweaty and somewhat stinky man and using panOxyl 4% wash as a deodorant the last few weeks has literally changed my life.
    I started down a youtube-skincare rabbithole because I moved to Phoenix and decided it was probably worth finding a daily use sunscreen, and running into your videos has been a huge blessing. I honestly could never afford to see a dermatologist, And even if I did, I wouldn't be able to spend hours picking their brain for relevant tidbits the way we can here. The best success I've had is with using an epilator. I'm in my late 60's and have only ever had a small amount of fine body hair (at this age even less now) and the epilatore works great and is something I need to use fairly infrequently for my legs/underarms and only slight more often on my upper lip.

    • @StephanieRZ
      @StephanieRZ 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah why do I always get the impression that it hurts more than waxing? 😅😂 I can tolerate waxing honestly pretty good, it’s mostly the upper back portion of the near bum area that always gets me feeling more pressured pain (feels like nails being clawed in), other than that though, I can tolerate it pretty well. When I hear about epilators, I think it’d be okay if it’s like microdermabrasion devices lol or possibly like waxing full legs but it sounds more painful to me 😂 How’d you say it is?
      *I do use eyebrow tweezing… So maybe it’s like that, I feel. I might reconsider epilators. It just sounds painful.

    Another way I avoid irritation from shaving is via the type of razor I use. I ditched my cartridge Venus years ago and use a restored antique straight razor, or a safety razor depending on the day. A single very sharp blade requires fewer passes, and leaves a smoother finish. The straight razor also has no waste!

    • @haseenaparveen3188
      @haseenaparveen3188 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't it harder to use tho?

    • @Vegavis
      @Vegavis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @helena clover There are lots of people restoring razors you can find online (some on Etsy, whipped dog, Griffith shaving, etc). More expensive upfront than a modern razor, but less expensive overall, and better quality. My oldest razor (I have a collection lol) is mid to late 1800's, and it's a beast that just annihilates hair.
      There is learning curve, because both straight and safety razors are heavier and heckin sharp, but I watched videos, went slow, and I gained my confidence fairly quickly. Now I find it easy. I will say it's never quite as fast as using a Venus razor, but the results are better and last longer. Oh, also I'm a lady so I can only speak to shaving my legs and such, not the face! My boyfriend uses a safety razor for his face, and he loves it.

    One more hair removal method is the use of an epilator device. I noticed it's really not that popular in the US, but it's quite common in Europe. It looks like an electric shaver, but the head has rotating discs (sometimes it's a different system) that pull the hair out. Basically it's tweezing a large surface all at once. I find that it makes me prone to ingrown hair on my legs, but not on other areas for some reason. I use it under my arms. I only have to do it about once a week. It's painful (enough that I don't use it in the bikini area) but not terribly so. I would say less than waxing.

      Cost is usually by the minute, at least in Canada. Yes it is painful. I hydrate my skin a lot the night before. I also use a thick layer of Vaseline the night before and several days after. It helps it heal. Even though it is painful and you get scabbing for a short period of time, as long as your electrologist is a good one, the results are worth the pain. (I am getting cheeks, chin and a bit of neck). I highly recommend if you can deal with the short lived pain and make sure you use Vaseline. Also numbing cream made me more sensitive but it works for others. Get a trial session!

      Be very careful with epilators. It’s not the right method for everyone. It gave me countless ingrown hairs that were quite severe, and many of them grew in a very abnormal way as in growing parallel to my arms. I had never experienced that before. It took several months for the ingrown hairs to heal, at which point I then dealt with the hyperpigmentation. I had to wear long sleeves for 2 summers. It was a nightmare. Other people have experienced this as well. Search it on TH-cam.

    I have PCOS which causes hair on my face and chest. Because I’m black, the hair is dark and coarse a d it causes ingrowns and hyperpigmentation no matter how I remove it. The only safe thing I can do is to bleach the hair, and thankfully I’m fair enough that this makes the hair mostly invisible against my skin, but it grows so fast that I have to do it often. I really do need an effective solution, because this has taken a toll on my self esteem for over a decade now.

    Soft wax adheres to the skin and should only go over no more than once. Hard wax shrink wraps around the hairs and not the skin. Meaning it's less harsh on the skin and you can go over the same spot multiple times if need be. But if you have a good wax and technique you won't have to.

    I had over 2 years worth of treatments of laser hair removal. I spent about a thousand dollars. It helped to slow and lighten my hair but a few months after ending the treatment, the hair growth and dark color came back. I went back to the doctors office and they said laser hair removal won’t help me because I have a hormone issue. So I guess I’m just stuck with facial hair for life. 😭

    I've had electroepilation for over a year... I think it depends on the individual, the body region, the hair itself etc. etc. If you assume that there is always only 10-20% of the hair on the surface and even with electro-epilation you do not always destroy the hair immediately, you have to expect that it can take a very long time. I have it done on three regions. I am at about 34 hours = 3.017,50 € already. xD

Also the correct regimen to follow after electrolysis of facial hair and what skincare products to use after the electrolysis treatment on the face to avoid formation of scabs? What would be the best to use?AloeVera gel, CeraVe, Aquaphor or Vaseline? Really looking forward to your response or a video. TIA.

    Thanks Dr. Dray! I've tried waxing, threading, shaving, derma planing, sugaring, depilatory cream and the Jolen Creme Bleach Lightener (brows and upper lip). My favorite method was waxing, but it always made my skin really irritated. The worst was the depilatory cream as it made my upper lip look puckered! 😲🤣 A few years ago I started noticing peach fuzz, so I decided to try shaving. I just use a mild facial cleanser and a disposable razor. The results last about a month, and you're right, the hair doesn't grow back faster or thicker. It's cheap, not irritating and quick. I just pluck the few brow hairs that grow out of bounds.

    Love your info. Would you advise about plucking chin hair? Over time will it help by damaging the follicle? Will it make anything worse?

  • @ralucaganga1974
    @ralucaganga1974 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have white skin (Type 2) , dark brown hair and I have had over 30 IPL sessions to remove my facial hair. The type 2 skin with dark thick hair (curly hair)combo should make me the ideal candidate for hair removal via IPL. Each time I had IPL, however, my hair grew thicker and more visible and in areas I did not previously have it. The hair would gradually disappear in the first 2 weeks (it would fall), only to regrow by week 4-5, stronger and more stubborn than ever. I have of course - for around 3 weeks a fine clean face, and then, boom, by week 4 or 5 I am a hairy monster again. If at first, before starting IPL treatments, I had fine hair on my face (especially my chin and mustache area) now I have what can be called "a beard" with many many coarse black hairs. I now have black hair follicles on my cheeks (which never existed previously to IPL) and as said before a lot more follicles in my problem areas. I believe that is because before each IPL treatment, they shaved off all my face and now I am having hairs also on my cheeks and under my lip. I have also been told to never wax or use creams to shave my hair in between sessions as it would not allow for the hair to grow for the next session in order for the light impulse to effectively kill the follicle. I have shaved my chin area multiple times in between sessions (for several years already, starting with week 4 after an IPL treatment, I shave my chin hairs daily or every 2 days for around 1 or 2 weeks) and it is becoming thicker and thicker in spite of all monthly IPL treatments (5-6 weeks apart). As a proof that regular shaving caused increased thickness, I can compare with my mustache area, which now is a lot less noticeable but which was shaved only during my IPL sessions, but not by me daily in between IPL sessions. In my case, It was not a myth that shaving (before applying IPL and in between sessions) lead to thicker hairs and I am getting desperate to remove my many many chin hairs . I have spend several thousands of dollars on my facial hair removal, only to have it grow thicker, coarser and darker. The shaving increasing thickness is not a myth. Also, as further proof, since my teenage years I have been shaving the fine hair on my forearms and with frequent shaving it has grown a lot darker in colour and a lot thicker and coarser. Comparing with my upper part of the arms which haven't been shaved, the difference is like night and day.
