Very fair skin here, with light blonde hair that the laser can´t read, I fear electrolysis because I read it can give bad scars also years later due to collagen getting damaged by the heat, regardless of the method used. Many online forums and reviews seem to confirm this and I chicken out every time I feel like trying
Not all the way true. Straight thermolysis or high frequency does over time cause a loss of collagen due to the high heat. In the galvanic method there is no heat the current is applied and the interaction with the water in the tissue creates lye as a by product which kills the follicles root. Blend uses current and heat thermolysis but the heat is so low frequency when done properly the effect on collagen is negligible
I did an online consultation for laser hair removal and was asked if I had a history of skin cancer. I said yes, my mom had a melanoma and I’ve had two squamous cell carcinomas. After telling them this, they immediately rejected me as a candidate. They didn’t tell me why, but I assumed, maybe lasers are shooting UV rays into the skin and it could cause skin cancer if you’re at a high risk. But you made no mention of it - sooo I feel so confused now. Is there zero risk of skin cancer from laser?
No and it hasn’t been studied. So they don’t know what the long terms risks are of shooting those beams into the skin. Especially the neck area near thyroid and abdomen where your reproductive organs are
Electrolysis leaves sub cutaneous scarring. if the practitioner is not talented, you can see it right away. I had it done 20 years ago (Before laser was available) and my practitioner was very careful but now I can see that the scarring is showing up. I still had to go for laser treatment and the laser was much more effective. Electrolysis is much more painful than laser.
Laser was very effective in my bikini area but wasn’t on my chin etc. I did electrolysis there and after the initial series of treatments I go back twice a year to check for any small hairs
I have fair skin and dark hair and had laser treatment on my legs, bikini line and underarms about 15 years ago. It was an investment at the time but it was also life changing for me - waxing, shaving, depilation only gave me a week or two max and I live in a sunny climate and like to do things like swim and wear shorts - and for this past 15 years I have not had to think about if I need to shave (or those shower calisthenics) PS I had tried electrolysis on the bikini line and it was painful and relatively ineffective
I’ve been getting laser hair removal on my face for years. My hair just keeps growing back, but the procedure helps keep the growth to a minimum. I get the IPL laser. I’m Latina with medium light skin. I do get cold sores, but I haven’t had a breakout due to the procedure as of yet. I get it every 4 to 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how regular I attend the sessions. If I’m consistent, then I can stretch the time further between sessions. It’s annoying that the hair just keeps growing back, but at least it’s minimum to the point where I can’t really see it or feel it until weeks later. The hair growth is very fine and slow, so I’m okay with what I’ve got to work with.
Honestly I did the same and then went for electrolysis. Night and day difference on results. The only permanent solution for hair removal is electrolysis. Lasers just lighten the hair and make them finer but you will keep spending money on them. Please try electrolysis if you want to get rid of them once and for all. Can be painful and costly but I'm very glad I did it.
Is it growing back or are new dark hairs developing? If it is hormone related then that is probably why. I have been treating mine for 40 years and due to PCOS i still and will always have some dark hairs coming in.
@@greenknitter in my country I spend about 40 bucks for an hour of electrolysis (and I have 6-8hours sessions each months for my armpits, lower legs and bikini), so it’s about 300 bucks totally, but laser hair removal costs about a hundred for all zones that I’ve mentioned. I think in Europe or in the USA prices are three times higher.
I don't know where the audio compression is coming from. Software or hardware, but the threshold is too low and the ratio is too high. It makes the starts and stops of the words really harsh and difficult to listen to, and increases background ambient noise in the pauses between words and sentences. Just a tip.
Why the fact that laser can actually trigger more hair growth in some people was not introduced earlier by professionals? I still can't comprehend that. In the past they said its a rare side effect and still are. But I think its a lot more common and I noticed a lot of people sufffering esp girls incluing myself.
Is it safe and effective to use sunscreen/bug repellent combo? Or does it work better using a separate sunscreen once absorbed, then put on bug repellent?
Did Laser hair removal at LaserAway...don't do it. No refunds and they lie during the whole sales process. It's high-pressure sales. All the hair reduction I experienced has come back. Sadly, the areas I want permanent removal are large, like my back and shoulders, so it'd become quite tedious and overwhelming. That's why I tried to do laser first. My advice: just spend that $$$ on electrolysis so you get some guarantee of results.

Electrolysis should not cause ingrowns. Your technician is not properly treating the hairs. Laser shouldn’t cause hyperpigmentation probably not using the right wavelength for your skin type and tone
I bought a Braun IPL device and on the box there is a warning about not using it if you’ve had skin cancer. Is there any risk of UV skin damage using an IPL?
These days i was and still am thinking about laser. To be more specific i was thinking will laser for hair removal be effective for the prevention of pilonidal cyst ? Can't laser totally remove hair from that specific area ,In order not to worry about hair reappearance ?. I want to thank you Doctor Andrea for listing the pros and cons about these two techniques (electrolysis and laser) 😊❤ they really help out a lot.
Laser hair removal may help prevent pilonidal cysts. There will always be the potential for new hair to start growing in the future, but it can lead to permanent hair reduction
What is IPL devices? Are they same as laser and how they work for different skin tone? They seem to be cheaper than laser. I baught Tria laser device long time ago. I was not consistent with it, I saw reduction by 50% and they grow slowly. But not so affective on face.
One issue is, off the hair grows straight, but the Papilla may not be growing in that line. Mine goes on an angle. The needle never being able to get to the papilla itself during electrolysis. The electrolysis was ineffective.
Sounds like you had a poorly trained tecnician. Had about a dozen sessions or more on my chin and neck and once the hairs were zapped they stayed gone.
Had electrolysis done ONCE. Back in the 90's, I went for one treatment to see if this might work on my upper lip. I'm of Italian decent, but with pale olive skin and dark brown hair. It was very uncomfortable, I got very red and had irritated bumpy skin for over a week afterwards. I've been shaving once a week or so ever since. Many blessings to all💖💖💖
Aw..so sorry for your experiences the upper lip and near nostril are the most sensitive areas for this procedure. I used Elma with Saran Wrap to numb area 1hour before appt. Still hurt like h*ll. Moderately successful.
Sounds similar to my experience. I had electrolysis once on my chin area / under the chin, and got *the WORST* ingrown hairs + inflamed follicles I have ever had in my life - even shaving with a razor has never left me in such a bad state. Never did it again.
I’ve had paradoxical hypertrichosis when I did laser with my dermatologist on the chin. My sister had suffered from it already so I asked if there would be any risk and the dermatologist said no…. 6 month later I had hair on the neck. Luckily I started electrolysis one year ago and there is almost nothing left Maybe because I have a deeper skin tone I dunno (Sorry for my English i am French )
After permanent hair removal the skin loses its -how can I describe I m not sure but- elasticity, think it damages the skin. This is my observation and I am expecting other people's comment.

It’s really not that bad!! I thought it would be too, but it really depends on where you go.
Yes, always super helpful ❤️
Very fair skin here, with light blonde hair that the laser can´t read,
I fear electrolysis because I read it can give bad scars also years later due to collagen getting damaged by the heat, regardless of the method used.
Happy Friday Dr Dray so excited to be here I live for this ❤️

I did an online consultation for laser hair removal and was asked if I had a history of skin cancer. I said yes, my mom had a melanoma and I’ve had two squamous cell carcinomas. After telling them this, they immediately rejected me as a candidate. They didn’t tell me why, but I assumed, maybe lasers are shooting UV rays into the skin and it could cause skin cancer if you’re at a high risk. But you made no mention of it - sooo I feel so confused now. Is there zero risk of skin cancer from laser?
I’m wondering the same thing I hope she will answer
No and it hasn’t been studied. So they don’t know what the long terms risks are of shooting those beams into the skin. Especially the neck area near thyroid and abdomen where your reproductive organs are
Electrolysis leaves sub cutaneous scarring. if the practitioner is not talented, you can see it right away. I had it done 20 years ago (Before laser was available) and my practitioner was very careful but now I can see that the scarring is showing up. I still had to go for laser treatment and the laser was much more effective. Electrolysis is much more painful than laser.
Um so... was your practitioner talented or not?
Laser was very effective in my bikini area but wasn’t on my chin etc. I did electrolysis there and after the initial series of treatments I go back twice a year to check for any small hairs
does it hurt you in bikiny??
I have fair skin and dark hair and had laser treatment on my legs, bikini line and underarms about 15 years ago. It was an investment at the time but it was also life changing for me - waxing, shaving, depilation only gave me a week or two max and I live in a sunny climate and like to do things like swim and wear shorts - and for this past 15 years I have not had to think about if I need to shave (or those shower calisthenics) PS I had tried electrolysis on the bikini line and it was painful and relatively ineffective
Happy Friday, Dr. Dray❤
happy friday
I had electrolysis on my lower legs
Effective and reasonable cost!
So no point of doing lazer hair removal to "decrease" before doing electrolysis treatment ?
I wouldnt waste my
Money on laser before electrolysis. Take it from me- I did do laser before i discovered electrolysis.
@@osmanpatates536 ok thanks for letting me know !
any scarring?
@@sabsain2399 good question ^
Look up paradoxical hypertrichosis. The laser is stimulating new hair follicles on your face
I’ve been doing electrolysis on my armpits for over a year now and it really helped, cause there only a few hairs left, but it’s expensive af
No more expensive than laser where I am-€30 per half hour, €15 for 15 minutes.
@@Вика-м7цin my country one hours costs 100 euro.
I’ve had laser hair removal on my under arms, mustache & bikini area. Worked like a charm 👍🏻
I don't know where the audio compression is coming from. Software or hardware, but the threshold is too low and the ratio is too high. It makes the starts and stops of the words really harsh and difficult to listen to, and increases background ambient noise in the pauses between words and sentences. Just a tip.
Have a great Friday all!
You too!
I started out with the home laser ( Tria) & later bought the IPL device ( Silkn flash n go) with the bigger window on it. Very effective.
would you recommend electrolysis for hidradenitis supparativa?
What's the dog's name?
I'm done with it. I shave and a day or two later the hairs are back.
You can also use a combination of the two methods
I did have electrolysis on my upperlip zone and I really love it!!! ❤❤❤
Why the fact that laser can actually trigger more hair growth in some people was not introduced earlier by professionals? I still can't comprehend that.
In the past they said its a rare side effect and still are.
But I think its a lot more common and I noticed a lot of people sufffering esp girls incluing myself.
Because laser is a big cash cow.
Really helpful video, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Dr Dray, I love your videos! You've been such a comforting support by walking with me through my skin care journey. Thank you for that.
Would you consider doing a video on the best way to use an epilator and its pros and cons compared to other hair removal methods?
Lots of love from the Netherlands! 🌷🧡
It would be great if they sold and electrolysis affordable at home device or a laser at home device that worked 😢
Amen
Could be risky if you're not a trained professional though.

I’ve had laser hair removal and electrolysis. Laser can cause hyperpigmentation. Electrolysis gave me really bad ingrowns
Look for a recommendation for a better tecnician for electrolysis. Mine was terrific and no ingrown hairs.
Depending on your skin tone, definitely look for derms/technicians who specialize in that and know what they are doing. Type of laser counts as well.
Electrolysis should not cause ingrowns. Your technician is not properly treating the hairs. Laser shouldn’t cause hyperpigmentation probably not using the right wavelength for your skin type and tone
I guess I couldn't get laser hair removal on my legs! The hair is platinum blonde and my skin is super white. No contrast and no melanin. Bummer!
I bought a Braun IPL device and on the box there is a warning about not using it if you’ve had skin cancer. Is there any risk of UV skin damage using an IPL?
So how DO we get rid of vellus hair on face and neck?
Which one is better for folliculitis??
Does anyone have any recommendations for electrolisys in Italy? At the moment I’ve just heard talk about laser

Do you believe in those red light masks? Is it just lightbulb with red colouring?
I had electrolysis 10 years ago on all body only one hair grew back on the leg :) but it is very long and painful process
Speaking as a Mediterranean woman laser is the best thing I’ve done for my self care. 10 years hairless 🩷😭 I’m a fan.
Need to find someone trained. Insertions that are to the root are the pillar of electrolysis.
Question about the iRestore helmets. Do they get warm/heat up?
slight warmth from increased blood flow, but no they dont heat up

Can you make a vid about acne nodules?
Do you recommend getting laser hair removal done by other professionals like RNs? Or is it better to go to a dermatologist?
I’ve had paradoxical hypertrichosis when I did laser with my dermatologist on the chin. My sister had suffered from it already so I asked if there would be any risk and the dermatologist said no…. 6 month later I had hair on the neck. Luckily I started electrolysis one year ago and there is almost nothing left
Maybe because I have a deeper skin tone I dunno
(Sorry for my English i am French )

Thoughts on using a sulfur mask while on low dose accutane ?
if it isnt too drying, some find it helpful
How painful is this
Can you use laser hair removal if you use tretinoin?
After permanent hair removal the skin loses its -how can I describe I m not sure but- elasticity, think it damages the skin. This is my observation and I am expecting other people's comment.
Not my observation at all. And i have literally had laser treatments everywhere on my body. Also electrolysis and no issues.
Thermolysis method which is only heat does breakdown collagen. Try galvanic electrolysis no heat involved only current
I am struggling to find true old school electrolysis in Austin, TX. It's all laser everywhere!!! Any recommendations??
Hii mam
Going to have to travel out of state. Texas is an unlicensed state anyone can buy a machine and hang a shingle out there.
Can we apply clindamycin phosphate gel usp after applying cetaphil and hybrid Sun control??
Same question goes for tretinoin gel. Can we apply it after applying cetaphil??
Should we apply clindamycin on our whole face or on the affected areas only??
I'm red-haired, so only electrolysis works. It really takes such a looong time and costs a lot of money. I wish I could use a laser or even better one of those home IPL devices. I really envy everyone that has great results with IPL.
I have a lot of hair unfortunately.
Awesome channel 😊 could you maybe do a video about, how long, one should see results from ones skincare, like serums, moisture cream and more. Like do they all take the same time or🤔
With love from Denmark 🤘🎉
Has anyone checked out Current Body’s laser hair removal device? It’s not IPL but supposed to be like the “proper” laser
Do these apply to those with pcos?
Electrolysis is better for hormonal imbalance. Laser can cause paradoxical hypertrichosis even more risk if this with pcos and hormonal imbalance
Any info on how electrolysis vs IPL vs laser hair removal affects tattoos? I would also love to hear about if the at home devices for these are safe!
Can’t do laser over tattoos. Many people get electrolysis so the tattoos stand out more and pop on the skin as they are hair free
Hey Dr Dray! I’m wondering what your thoughts are re: laser hair removal (specifically in the groin area) for HS management. Have you seen this help any of your HS patients? I’ve had to come off my biologic after developing PRES syndrome and struggling to manage my HS without it, wondering if laser hair removal would be worth the investment as part of my “managing HS” plan. Thanks so much as always!

Good morning Dr. Dray I forgot my sunscreen in the glove compartment in the car for almost 2 days Is it OK to continue use?
sunscreen can breakdown and become ineffective at extreme temperatures, such as a hot car
Home laser removed my leg hair ten years ago haven’t shaved since same with underarms and bikini
why is electrolysis the only approved hair removal method to be approved by the FDA?
Are you sure?
👉 Another Caution with Laser Hair Removal: Not effective on gray hair!
Grey hair is just like blonde or red hair. It lacks melanin and hence laser does not work.
I paid for 6 sessions, and the first one was done with IPL, not laser (unbeknownst to me at the time), and then they closed after my third session and I never got my money back 🙃
I got new hair growth from lazer hair removal. It happened to me, I think, because I use minoxidil.
No laser can cause more hair to grow. Look up paradoxical hypertrochosis

No many people get electrolysis in tattooed areas to make them standout or pop more
