- What would happen if you took a street legal Porsche 992 series GT3 RS and put le mans hypercar aerodynamics on it? On November 22nd Manthey Racing will be giving us the answer. If you haven't been following my videos on the development of this car, or if you've never heard of Manthey racing before, they are an engineering and racing team that was established in 1996 and purchased by porsche in 2013. Manthey specializes in improving the performance of Porsche's most potent race cars and road cars. And they also provide support to Porsche's factory team for races like DTM, the Bathurst 12 Hour, the 24 Hours of Nurburgring, AND the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Manthey has been testing what I'm calling the GT3 RS MR, for about about seven months now and On November 15th they posted this image with the text "optimized for the racetrack, mark your calendars"
So let's look at some really great footage of this incredible machine blasting it's way around the nurbergring that was captured by car spy media
Now as I mentioned, this is a 992 series GT3 RS with what is essentially a le mans hypercar aerodynamics package installed. And here's a closer look at all the modifications that manthey made to this car.
At the front, we see a redesigned splitter that is much deeper than the stock version and the center has been lifted to allow air to pass underneath the car. The sides have been lowered to generate downforce on the front wheels to improve mechanical grip, and the outer edges expand into complex ridges on the top and bottom to control airflow around the bottom of the car. And two support rods help to stop heavy amounts of air pressure from bending the splitter downward.
The two fins installed on the roof of the stock GT3 RS, have been replaced by 8 fins, which generate vortexes and provide better airflow to the rear spoiler.
And at the back of the car, where most of the action is taking place, there is a huge carbon fibre vertical fin that helps to provide stability at extremely high speeds, and the rear window has been replaced by an extremely thin carbon fiber plate. This has been done to accommodate the horizontal fin and to save weight.
The once enormous biplane wing is now an enormous triplane wing, and at either side of this enormous wing are a set of equally enormous endplates that feature a unique jagged rear edge. The endplates also angle out to a more extreme degree. And holding up this huge conglomeration of weight and downforce are a set of reinforced swan-neck vertical supports. As of now there is a rudimentary disc mounted to the rear wheel that will most likely be replaced by the more aesthetically pleasing carbon one found on manthey's other kits.
and outback The rear diffuser has been completely redesigned with deeper airvanes that channel the airflow in different directions.
Unfortunately we can't see the bottom of this car but I have a feeling Manthey has been working on some brilliant underbody aerodynamics for it.
it's believed that this car is not going to receive an increase in horsepower, but there should be plenty of other upgrades, including four-way coilover suspension, competition brake pads, stainless steel-braided brake lines and ultralight wheels, and probably a few other things that we'll have to wait until the 22nd to learn about.
So here are the big questions about this car? Was it built to take back the Nurburgring lap record from mercedes? Because if not, what was the goal? because the second place lap record already belongs to manthey racing, with the GT2 RS MR, and there's kind of no point in shooting for second place when you're already in second place. So given the amount of time and development that has gone into this car, I have to assume they are aiming for the lap record. And seeing that they have made an official announcement about the car, I will also assume that Manthey has accomplished this goal and this car is the new king of the nurburgring. But I could be wrong.
The next question is - will it be available as a kit that people can add to their GT3 RS, or will it need to be purchased as a turnkey car.
And this leads to the next question: how much will it be? My guess, if it's a kit only, it will be 80 grand plus installation costs, and if it's a complete car, well, this is a more complicated question with dealership markups and such, but I would guess porsche would price it at around 2 hundred and 50 thousand dollars and anyone who purchases one will pay closer to 6 hundred thousand dollars. What is your guess on the prices?
You need to do a video on Dodge coming out with a 4.7 l Magnum V8 twin turbo and a California Ferrari sourced 3.9 l twin turbo remember the gentleman that sits on the board of directors at a Dodge also sets of the borders galantis at a Ferrari
It will be a kit only and the price is about right. I was told they didn’t have a lap time, but I don’t believe that. And the goal is to make it faster than stock, not the lap record, this will be the 992 GT2RS job.
damn, he looks fast
Are you assuming this cars gender
These aero mods work brilliantly, at speeds over 100mph probably.
I think it’s going to run in the 6.40s lap !!!
I expect more. The last time they did a run with an upgraded version car; they improved 8,5 seconds, with GT2RS MR (MR version did 6.38,8 default version did 6.47,2) so yeah more like a mid 6.30s or even low 6.30s is what I expect
@@XxApo70xX not sure about that it only has a bit over 500 hp
@@sebastianjo752 I just said my words in the previous record they improved 8,5 seconds. Track performance is not only about power too🤷♂️
@@XxApo70xXthe problem is that the aero concept of the 992 GT3 RS is already far superior to the 991 GT2 RS, so it’s much harder to improve upon, especially over 10 seconds without any engine mods.
It will definetly not be the new fastest car. Manthey never ever touches the engine. And it is absolutely impossible to reclaim the lap record with the original engine. I think it will be 5 seconds faster
That aero (if they keep everything from the prototype shown here) is pretty extreme, so I'd hope for at least a 5 seconds jump - but its true - there's surely no way it will gain the 20+ seconds needed to take back the record. It just weighs too much. The road legal 992 "Cup" car Misha Charoudin featured highlighted the inherent performance advantage it has outside of high speed corners simply by being lighter and having a wider track. All this aero trickery is just making up for its street car homologation drawbacks IMO.
@@divinasi0nWhat if this was done on cars like the Porsche 918?
@@myusername3689 Nobody would want their precious garage queen to be touched. 😉
It’s never going to touch the £2,000,000 Hypercar AMG One. It only has 500bhp!
Great car but how many buyers want a track car our just buy it for investment?
Everyone in germany😂. We own the Nordschleife
lighting is abit dark bro.
8min of yapping in 0:25x speed and filler content
First here!
lol who cares - buy a cup car, everyone knows this. Just numbing for both Manthey and Porsche almost comical.
If Misha's ride-along in the road legal 992 "Cup" car is anything to go by, you are right. Light weight and wider beats more aero. Not every corner on the 'Ring is quick enough to take advantage of all that trickery. It looks worse too. What I want to see is a street legal Cup car with some of this crazy aero... Now that's what you want if you wanna smash Mercedes' record.
@@divinasi0n The 992 GT3 RS took the experiment too far, I have the 991.2 GT3 RS and real world its just as quick as the 992 and still great round track, plus you can safely stow your track gear in the frunk. When you're edging close to cup car performance, just buy a Cup Car.
@VK6AB- Haha. Nice.
@@VK6AB- The 991.2 is an awesome car but there's no need to put down the 992. Also makes you sound jealous. I think it looks stunning. The MR looks even better.
"When you're edging close to cup car performance, just buy a Cup Car." absolute non-argument
@@customurlgoeshere The 992 is marketing over substance - the aero is effective on fast circuits assuming high speed opening corners (because downforce is proportional to velocity squared). Jealous, why would I be jealous I had an allocation for the 992 GT3 RS but preferred to buy a 296 GTB, I also own a 991.2 GT3 RS. If you want to do lap times get a cup car, safer, quicker and more fun. You can't even get your safety gear in a 992 GT3 RS because there is no frunk
Doooo youuu reeaalllyy talllkkk thaaatt slooowwwwww ????? 😣
