If you go back to park and back to reverse it will disable that safety feature temporarily. Same thing with Drive when door is open. It actually tells you that in the message that pops up.
The only good thing about the back up thing is it prevents you from damaging your door when backing into a garage. My door came open on my 74 cherokee once and damaged it!
I have the Overland model and cannot put a 35 inch spare underneath, also, I do not have the lid that you are referring to for the rear seat storage. These features may be reserved for certain models.
@@McExplorer1on my wrangler which has manual windows and mirrors, there's still a wiring harness for the doors which tells the jeep the doors are off when disconnected. I bet it's the same with the gladiator.
My 2022 Sport doesn't have that box under the back seat. It just has an open tray. On the plus side, I have the 6 speed manual, so I can back up as much as I want with the door open.
i just got my first jeep gladiator 2023. this was a good video. i started to panic when i couldn't reverse cuz i was trying to hook up a trailer and i had the door open lol. also the back seat locking thing was new to me. thanks a lot man.
Good video , I didn’t know about the rear seat area with the handle, or that the bolt thing was back there, thanks….. ps I hate that feature when backing up with the door open…… freaked me out the first time I did it and it wouldn’t go anywhere 😡
I have 35 inch MT Baja tires on my gladiator. I think the rear spare tire rack will hold bigger. I feel you could almost fit 37 inch. At least 36 inch. I have at least an inch spare
The part i found disappointing was TFL offroad advertise heavily for jerp on their u tube channel and claimed: you get steel front bumper, a wireless Bluetooth speaker, forward facing camera, rubber floor mats, blah blah ect. Like hell you do! Those are all options and you will very likely have to order it from the factory in order to get them, i know, i bought new off the lot and didn't get any of them. The power point in the passenger side inside the box...nope. They do a select few with spray in box liner just for their showroom pieces, otherwise its barebones and you paying extra for everything. That includes those covers on the underseat storage compartments in the backseat, not on mine, and we are talking about a Rubicon gladiator here, not some other one. Furthermore, the aftermarket mopar (high performance 🙄) rock crawler style bumper recovery points have a 5/8 inche hole 🕳️ in them that fits a 1/2" clevis rated for 2.5 tons, your grandma might use that to hang up a clothesline. Cmon jeep! And buyer beware 😮
I’ve never pulled my doors, but here’s a question. If you remove your doors what happens to Reverse Auto-lock? Just curious. I got caught with that abrupt stop feature recently as I was trying to fit into a tight parking space, had the door cracked to check the lines, and thought I’d broken my Jeep. Took a long moment to remember that safety feature. The dash message helped as well.
Yea this feature sucks my ass, like they dont care if you don't have the doors on if you are reversing... but if you crack that door... NOPE THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE DO NOT PASS GO. annoying
I didn't know about the reverse not let you move with the door open... until it happened to me. And I was a bit worried. Shrugged it off when I got it to move... Not realizing how and why it stopped. Smh :)
For the driver's door being open and not allowed to go forward and reverse...it's from the German cars ..Mercedes, BMWs..I'm guessing cause Chrysler was part of Mercedes back in the days they include this feature. But when I go off roading with the doors still on ...I disconnect the wire harness by the left side kick panel
Any help would be greatly appreciated!! 2022 Gladiator Mojave, 19,800 miles I had the front doors off, and went to back up, took my seatbelt off, and leaned out of the jeep.. Now, I get a msg of vehicle not in park , reverse does not work, small weird noise when engaged and "R" just blinks.. It will drive forward, skipping through gears and then service transmission error is displayed.. I've reinstalled the doors, started multiple times with our seatbelts on, even disconnected both batteries for about 20min... The issue never went away.. well, I had it hauled away on a flatbed, and its sitting at a local CDJM dealer.. Has anyone else experienced this? Very frustrating, as I've only owned this less then 2months.. Thank you in advance!
Oh and For Your Situational Awareness.....it's only 1 of 2 consumer trucks still available for purchase with a manual transmission. The other would be the only other option on the market I would have gone with, Tacoma. Because some folks want a MACHINE....and thick calves :)
Idk on the Jeep but on the Ram it will do the same thing if you go in reverse with the door open. The trick in the Ram is you push the door latch completely closed to trick the sensor and you can back up door open. Just remember to pull the door handle to reset the catch before you shut the door.
Actually a 37” tire fits under the bed.

Owning 3 gladiators in my life... my newest one has manual and Bluetooth speaker. These two options are by far my favorite options for gladiator.
The only good thing about the back up thing is it prevents you from damaging your door when backing into a garage. My door came open on my 74 cherokee once and damaged it!
I don't have the lid on my rear seat storage, I feel ripped off. Also, I do not like the reverse lock out feature either. But I love my Gladiator.
That came with the bed package that includes the sliders and bet outlet.
Unfortunately I knew all of those, was hoping I would learn something new. Great video for the new owners 👍🏻
Party pooper
You can run in reverse quite easily with the door open all you need to do is go back to park then to reverse a second time.
I have the Overland model and cannot put a 35 inch spare underneath, also, I do not have the lid that you are referring to for the rear seat storage. These features may be reserved for certain models.
You can fit up to a 37 inch tire. You may need to air the tire down, or get a high clearance rear track bar. But more than doable.
I have the Overland and installed the Clayton Off Road rear adjustable track bar and am running 37" Falken Wildpeak M/T tires. It is a tight fit.
If you move it to neutral and back to reverse it will let you continue
If you are wearing your seatbelt you can open the door and reverse
Are you sure about that?
So how does reverse work with the doors removed?
@@McExplorer1on my wrangler which has manual windows and mirrors, there's still a wiring harness for the doors which tells the jeep the doors are off when disconnected. I bet it's the same with the gladiator.
It is. I have my front doors off and can back up with no issues. When you unplug the harness it deactivates the sensor for the interior lights
My 2022 Sport doesn't have that box under the back seat. It just has an open tray. On the plus side, I have the 6 speed manual, so I can back up as much as I want with the door open.
Cool thing is auto park doesn’t work off-road when your in 4wd

Congrats! Glad to help👍
Lockable storage behind the rear seats? For what a postcard?

Aloha Rob🎉😂😊😮. This is one of your best colored Jeep JT. Yet, this is a very good and thoroughly detailed video.

In my old JK I took the back seat head rests out cause they were such a visual impairment..
My 2023 Willys has the under-seat storage but it doesn't have the lid. Was it an option on a "higher" model or is mine just missing?
Other trims do come with a lid.
I have a very highly optioned 2022 Mojave and I don't have it.
I have a Gladiator and it doesn't have it.
2 times, I noticed I forgot to close the tale gate" "is there any light to indicate that the Tail gate is open
Not that I’m aware.

If you remove the door then the auto stop is disconnected
Yea this feature sucks my ass, like they dont care if you don't have the doors on if you are reversing... but if you crack that door... NOPE THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE DO NOT PASS GO. annoying
Also if you use your left foot to hold very lite pressure on the brake pedal you can back up just fine with the door open.
I didn't know about the reverse not let you move with the door open... until it happened to me. And I was a bit worried. Shrugged it off when I got it to move... Not realizing how and why it stopped. Smh :)
I actually thought it was my seatbelt.
Yup! It’s very surprising 😬
I fit a MT 37” spare no prob
It's an oldie featuring the first Gladiator, video image quality has improved since.
Question can you put it in reverse if you have the doors off the Jeep
Sure can.
I wish they had a power rear slider.
I wish they had a clean looking aftermarket. I would hook it to one of my aux buttons. I still might if I can find a good kit.
Not that it's a huge secret or anything.
But depending on which bumper you have it makes a nice seat as well.
Lol! For sure👍

I’ve heard it’s due to an accident where someone got hurt🤔
My spare is a 37 and it fits snug as a bug in a rug down there
What about when you have the doors off?
side notes when we glad owners take doors off we can't reverse sometimes too? and the phone holder in the cup holder?
Yes.
@@robmotiveplus great video . Thank you from Canada !
You can put a 38" spare tire if you run the clayton track bar!
Just adjust the driver side mirror down to look below. 👍
No need...I have little mirrors👍
Even better 🤠👍
Thank you! I have SO much to learn about my new Gladiator!
Same. I just bought one two days ago. I will be watching videos all day :)
You can open the door after starting to backup... just need to have the drive engaged prior to opening the door.
Mine did not work that way.
#8, Samething happens in drive.
Excellent video. ❤❤
Thanks👍
I too, have run into the block by not having on my seat belt pr door open. Do Not like that.
You also don’t have that last problem if you take off the doors 😆
What if u take doors off, will it go in gear?
Yes.

Did you reconnect the wiring harnesses for the doors?
That last one isn't an issue if you get the 6 speed. Just saying 😎
Oh and For Your Situational Awareness.....it's only 1 of 2 consumer trucks still available for purchase with a manual transmission. The other would be the only other option on the market I would have gone with, Tacoma. Because some folks want a MACHINE....and thick calves :)
What if the driver's side door is removed? Can you move in reverse?
Yes.
What if you had the doors off? Your still unable to back up?
Not if you disconnect the wiring harness to remove the door.
Push the parking assist button and you can back up with your door open
Can’t you just disconnect the door harness and trick the Jeep into thinking the door or off to reverse with the door open?
Yup…then you will have no power windows or locks.
What if the doors are off? You can't reverse? I bet the seat belt plays a part somehow.
If the doors are off the wiring harness is disconnected. When the harness is disconnected, the feature is disabled.
Did you get a new Gladiator
Yea I’m not a fan of the auto park.
Great video keep it up
Thanks, will do!
As long as your seatbelt is latched, you can open the door and go in reverse at the same time. I have no problem leaning out with the belt on.

How do you disable auto park? It's so annoying
There are auto stop eliminators you can use 👍
Can we buy the under seat locking storage storage
I believe so.
It is a Mopar accessory
I inquired: not available as an add-on on Mohave 2020.
Programmer can get rid of annoying door transmission thing
The back head rest is also government mandated.
Can you back up if the doors are removed lol
Yes. That system is then deactivated.
You actually thought we didn't know where the brake light is? Bro......
So did you.....
Because of the dead celebrity they have restricted shift mechanism
No idea what you talking about…
Yes! And I curse him every time that auto park feature activates in my GC. (It was a recall thing with my vehicle, I wish I never had it done)
(me here in my manual laughing at all the chicks with the auto park problem)
Huh?
I don’t even own a gladiator, and I knew all of this stuff. I was hoping for some thing unique that hasn’t been covered by every other jeep TH-camr.
Thanks for watching 👍
💚!!!!!!!💚
REVERSE / OPEN / PARK SUCKS !
Nothing new. We know these features.
Wow…You speak for everyone 🤔
