Maximus wasn’t just a soldier, he was “The General” of the Roman Army who was known throughout the land.
What I found made him more likeable is that he never had the need to flaunt or even mention his status. In fact he shied away from it. Which means he never had the need for entitlement in thinking he was better than anyone. He never complained about how “this shouldn’t be happening to him”. Instead he beared his burden w/grace and still held his head high w/dignity even though being cast into slavery. He also chose to raise each man’s dignity that was imprisoned with him. This is what true leadership is. Amazing power, strength, grace and dignity who elevates and serves as a guide to those around him no matter the situation.
Also that and he was played by Russell Crowe who is a Badass @ that role and owning it. No one could’ve pulled it off like he did. He IS Maximus Decimus Meridius!

To add to your statement, Maximus leads by example not by word or title. He never expects anything of his men that he would not do himself. As a counterexample, Commodious wants to be Emperor precisely so he does not have to do the things he does not want to do. He wants to be elevated over other men through use of power whereas Maximus is elevated by his comrades due to his competence and Maximus always seems uncomfortable with that elevation. Maximus is George Washington, the reluctant leader who consciously rejects absolute power because they feel no man is worthy of absolute power.

I could never quite put my finger on why I watched Gladiator especially more in hard times. I knew the quotes were very inspiring from multiple characters, but the movie emboldens me.
It wasn't until my recent watching of the movie on my phone that I realized. As I watched this man Maximus on my screen, my wife kept interrupting me to show me funny videos of grown "men" do dance videos on TikTok.
This is when I saw it plainly. The film is about manhood and what it is to be a man. Everyone in the film serves as a foil to Maximus. Commodus most of all.
Maximus doesn't experience a character arc. He remains the same from start to finish. The setting, the plot, the scheming politics, the spectacular battles are just the vehicle in which to show the substance of the film which is what a masculine man looks like and should be.

Gladiator is a copy of Braveheart, they even wanted Mel Gibson to start in Gladiator. He was the first choice but he refused it saying he's to old for playing Maximus. He also didn't want to play Braveheart because he considered he was to old for the role, but had to accept because that was the condition to get the finance in order to produce the movie ... Peter Jackson said that the LORT trilogy was influenced by Braveheart, also 300 was. So the "real" idea of this kind of movies is actually Braveheart

@@sebsebseb1905 you completley miss the point. Aragon did not "run away", he felt that he would be doomed to repeat the failures of his forefathers. So instead of holding onto the crown out of pride, he felt the greatest service to his people would be to cast it away instead as he felt his blood was no longer worthy. In fact, this is a perfect image of man as allegorical sons of Adam- as the biblical mythos is that we are all sons of a fallen father. And Aragons development is realizing that our strength and virtue, true righteousness cannot come from ourselves but through service and sacrifice for others.

mr. Peterson the carnivore diet will not sustain you. you need fiber (I use organic psyllium husk powder very important its organic), minerals, vitamins, probiotics in order of importance for you. Magnesium itself supports 300 different enzyme function. and you need to add in some super supplements like apple cider vinegar, maybe Ginger, turmeric would probably be very good for you just mix a spoonful with water add some black pepper to make it 10 times more effective, maybe an avocado a day for healthy fat content, creatine for your brain, juice some vegetables (celery beats kale very good choices) throwing in an apple for flavor. before I allow myself to learn I decided I need to have my diet and exercise in check so I can sustain a long life of learning and work at bare minimum you need 15 minutes of cardio a week or 15 minutes a day. you have enough money so contact Thomas Delauer a very strong scientific dietitian (also has a TH-cam channel) also Ben Greenfield could probably help you with your food sensitivities.
