YET ANOTHER UPDATE! Microsoft is now saying even though you can technically install Windows 11 on older CPUs, you might not be able to get any updates, even security updates
Unfortunately Microsoft did not communicate this to the news outlets until well after a bunch of articles and this video were published

A "bait and switch". You can however still manually go out and download the updates off of the windows update server so I guess you can still get "updates" but without a 3rd party tool most people won't be doing it.

If it still requires a TPM, then I literally cannot install this new version without going out and purchasing a new laptop, even though my current one is working perfectly fine. Not going to waste my money and add to e-waste just because Redmond wants me to.

    • @Blue2x2x

My main computer has no way to have a TPM as well. I'm in same boat. It's still good, so it's not reasonable to buy a new computer nor tossing out for e-waste. Unless Microsoft remove the TPM requirement, I'm moving to Linux when Windows 10 ends. Besides, Windows 11 looks like a total downgrade from Windows 10.

The CPU generation is not entirely true. Kaby Lake and up supports MBEC, yet 7th generation consumer processors are not supported except for one chip added recently. (Edit: Hexality pointed out that many HEDT Kabylake X series processors are supported) And it's not just Zen2 chips on the list (which supports GMET, AMD's equivalent of MBEC), but also APUs that are Zen+ which do not support GMET. Technically speaking, they would allow users to install, but won't actually provide "official support". If a user experiences performance issues while using Win 11 on an unlisted CPU and write something on places like Microsoft Community, moderators and independent advisors will probably just slap a reply with the list of supported CPU and ask the user to rollback to Win 10. They will not care.

on the installer . there's one catch thought . for people trying to write the windows 11 iso to USB using Rufus , you can't do the restrictions removal
To the iso if your on windows 7. For some reason Rufus needs at least win 8
To be able to give you the selections at the main menu .
If your on win 8 or 10 , Rufus will give you the write iso options to strip out
secure boot requirements , and every other win 11 requirement.
Hells , my pc is so old it don't even have boot uefi mode ,
I wrote the iso using mbr option , and the install worked .

Win 10 LTSC 2019 is the end of the line for me. I have no intention of running Windows 11 on any of my computers and I say that as someone who has used practically every version of Windows since 3.x/95. I held out on Windows 7 for the longest time, simply because I quite liked Microsoft's old model: a fully local OS with 10+ years of dedicated support. Why they decided to alienate a sizable portion of their customer base with Windows 10 is beyond me. They insisted on switching from a "customer" model to a "consumer" one with rampant telemetry and data-mining that can only be partially turned off with 3rd party tools. The last vestige of their old model was LTSC 2019 (LTSC 2022 only has a 5-year support window), which is by all accounts a fantastic OS with a few nice improvements over 7/8.1.
What I don't get: If the 10 year support cycles were breaking the bank, they wouldn't have offered 10 to every Win 7 and Win 8 customer for free and they wouldn't make it so easy to (even nowadays) install Win 10 Pro ($200 MSRP) with a $20 Win7 Pro CoA. I know a lot of people (especially working professionals) who need Windows for some program and would happily pay an extra $100 for an LTSC license for less telemetry and an ad-free start menu, but they've make it almost impossible for anyone to obtain it legally. They badmouth LTSC publicly, and force most who want it to just pirate it instead. They really don't seem to want their old customer base or their money anymore. Instead, they insist on a "consumer base" they can spy on and full control of everyone's computers (waking computers up from sleep to force updates without consent), and that model appears to be getting much more toxic with Windows 11 - i.e. forcing all W11 laptops to have a front-facing camera by 2023.
I started playing around with Linux distros a few months ago and was very impressed with how far they've come since the last time I tried it in the late 2000s. Fedora 34 is very easy to setup and run out of the box. Debian Stable and it's more user-friendly descendant Ubuntu are great choices too. Massive performance improvements, much cooler running temps, much better efficiency, and choice. Sometimes there are learning hiccups but if you're increasingly hesitant about being a part of Microsoft's ecosystem, there's never been a better time to tap out.

As of Build 22000.160 windows 11 beta can still be installed without TPM. Just use DISM to convert the install.wim to install.esd with the version(s) you want. and put the install.esd in a windows 10 setup/install usb source folder you make with the windows media creator tool. This method uses windows 10 setup for the first part to copy all the installation files needed and bypass the TPM check that the windows 11 setup does before copying installation files. After the files are copied and the PC restarts, it will continue the setup with the windows 11 installation like normal. This should also work with upgrading as well if you don't want to do a fresh install. Legacy Machines without UEFI, you might have to use rufus to make a MBR/non-UEFI USB with the windows 10 ISO. Then just copy the install.esd to the USB source folder.

I have been a Windows Insider since before the launch of W10, now running W11 dev builds on a "much too old" i5 laptop without TPM and with legacy boot. You can not opt-in without supported HW, but will not be kicked out if you are already in. And it seems many unsupported insider machines will get W11, so I think it is very likely that it will work even on the released version.
But I think it is very stupid of Microsoft to do it like this. They should just allow installing on any machine that physically can run it. Giving a warning is OK. A lot of older machines do not have TPM, so this will "unofficially" let some more use W11, but still, hundreds of millions of machines will be unsupported and not allowed to install without tricks. That is just so rude and inconsiderate that MS makes itself wide open to legal action against them for wasting fully usable machines. So this doesn't change things that much, but it makes it more likely that most that want to upgrade can do it not matter what MS says... But I agree with many others that secure boot will probably not happen on my machines.
Also, they have strict requirements for security reasons. But this can be the worst security decision they have ever made. Think what happens when hundreds of millions of W10 users realize that the machine they have is more than good enough for their use and do not want to upgrade the machine to get W11 and continue to use it after W10 support ends. That will level these machines not receiving security updates. One of the reasons for W10 was to gather "all" users on one supported version. Now they are guaranteed to make this situation much worse. The big HW divide was with the release of dual-core CPUs. Before that, you probably needed all the performance you could get and would still be limited. But from at least Core2Duo most simple web and office tasks, including 1080p video will run fine on most machines after that, especially since HW acceleration has matured, and a lot of users don't do any more advanced tasks. So many will have no need to upgrade for their own need, only because MS demands it. And that is for me and many others a very bad reason!

Wish I has the knowledge needed. At 70, it’s getting harder for me to keep up. I started using Computers back in the 70s when we had to type in the code to input a program. lol, my first home computer had 16 MB. I’m not sure I want to go to 11, doing fine where I am.

bypassing those requirements will present issues with features that will come out when the full windows 11 is out (i.e, android apps) its better to stick with windows 10 till eol instead of bypassing because you want 'wiNdoWs 11"

I was in the process of building a new pc from scratch and just bought a tpm module for €15. No biggy I thought and I don't mind the extra layer of security there.

Just so you guys know....all you have to do is use a windows 10 install iso and replace the install package within it with the windows 11 install package of choice......the restriction checks are triggered by what files surround the win 11 package in the windows 11 iso

Microsoft always makes things stupidly complicated, and they still deny people who don't have a tpm chip, there is no good reason for requiring the chip. It's pointless, Microsofts doc is just full of BS. It works fine, I can deal with security risks.
This disaster is going to still cause alot of systems not to move to 11.
If I get a new PC I'm just going to move to macOS and use a iMac.

Posting this so others can know. I'm on Zen 1, wanted to try to install windows 11 with the media tool, get to the page of picking which OS, and once you hit next, it will give you a screen telling you, your pc doesn't meet windows 11 system requirements and won't let you go forward. TPM is enabled and I'm on 2.0. My computer meets all of their system requirements expect the fact, it's a Zen 1.

Linux Mint Cinnamon ( or Mate, or XFCE) installation = " athlon x2 6400 cpu from 2008?? no problem " Installation complete.....you can either continue testing or press Finish to restart your machine.. ( a few seconds later)
Remove any installation media and press enter to reboot
Enjoy an OS that ACTUALLY respects your privacy..has PROVEN exactly that for 11+ years consistently....lets YOU control ..100% YOUR PC, and OOTB is THE easiest and most gentle transition from Windows most have seen for that 11 years straight.
      Hmm....gee...tough decision. lol

I wanted to get Windows 11 so badly but I tried it on one old Computer and it did tell me about Secure Boot, TPM and CPU generation. I tried it on a much newer Computer and it still told me that "Your PC is too old sorry" but I found a workaround by Kevin Stratvert to bypass TPM and CPU generation and I also found a way by CyberCPU tech to enable Secure Boot so I could theoretically run Windows 11 on a lot of older hardware unless they were ridiculously low end Hardware.
